So this was George Lucus' idea of a movie for 10 yo girls as to him Star wars was for 10 yo boys so he wanted to reach the other target audience. He took pride in having over 50 yrs of pop songs squished in. This is low key my guilty pleasure, it could have been so much better though

Also can I just say Im so glad the movie looks so weird, Im sure a few people would find it ugly but I think it works so well. It looks like if concept art was animated and for a story like this it really feels right for it to look like illustrations in classic tinker bell books. Especially as an artist myself I think this wouldn’t work with a more classic style of 3D, it needs to look “quirky” and in the dark forest, disgustingly beautiful.

I just rewatched this recently and it definitely a guilty pleasure, although I freaking hate that Sunny and Dawn became a thing. He didn't deserve Dawn.

Well the movie shows two characters who became guarded to survive that hurt. And even if they had their walls up, they still found love. I liked that I could relate to them and have some hope. Ever since Cellspex's review of Strange Magic, this film's been plaguing my mind. On one hand, it's a jukebox musical, got humour that doesn't work for me, and Sunny gets way too much screen time. But on the other, the visuals are breathtaking and the Beauty and the Beast story is charming. Bog King is such an intruiging character. How strange as this movie is. (pun very much intended) I will say that having two ppl who both have their guard up slowly open up and fall in love with each is actually pretty original. Most the time it’s just one person who has their guard up and the other one eventually gets them to bring their guard down. I don’t think there are many other movies if any at all that have both the love interests have their guard up

Same. Personally I think of Anya and Dmitri, Tiana and Naveen or Rapunzel and Flynn, people who don’t like each other and are only together because they’re forced to. It makes their relationships feel much more organic and made me feel their love was natural and they genuinely cared about each other and they came to understand each other better because they had flaws to overcome. I’m not big into romance stories like Ariel and Eric or even Belle and Beast, mainly BECAUSE the entire point of the story is getting them to fall in love, and characters like Eric and Belle don’t really have flaws or are jaded for them to overcome. Ariel literally falls in love with Eric’s looks, and despite he actually encourages her curiosity, we don’t actually learn anything about Eric aside being a good man. And I always thought Belle and Beast’s romance was a bit forced, considering how terribly he treated her and Maurice, and she kinda forgot about her dad for a majority of the movie. One couple I think is very underrated and deserves more respect is Pocahontas and John Smith. I get why people have a hard time accepting their relationship because of the historical context behind Pocahontas, but I still think they don’t get enough love. They don’t even end up together and I actually kinda liked that over other couples that ended up together. It proved they still loved each other enough to let the other go and they’d always be in each other’s hearts. They came to actually learn and understand each other before developing feelings.

To be honest, I blame George Lucas for that. He drummed it up in interviews and marketing as being the "Star Wars for girls" which, the rage inducing sexism in that comment aside, meant all the marketing and expectations were that it would be at least somewhere in the ballpark in terms of quality to Star Wars, which it CLEARLY isn't. I enjoyed it, but I went in fully expecting another mediocre juke box musical (which is a safe bet, I can only think of Shrek 1 and 2 as examples of legitimately good jukebox musicals) and was pleasantly surprised that I liked the characters enough to not mind the cheesy songs and plot.

I remember my sister bugging me for days to watch Strange Magic. I don't regret watching it. It's not the best movie ever, but I liked how they didn't make it as black and white as most movies. This movie holds a soft spot in my heart, I remeber going into the movie and seeing it and walking out amazed. I loved this movie as a little girl to the point where not only did I see it in theaters twice. But with my toys would do a re-enactment of the entire movie. It's still one of my favorite animated movies, I think I really liked it because the two main love interest were so different from any character I had ever seen before. A princess who didn't care about love, only her sister and could fight. Not only that, but went off on the guy who cheated her amazed me. And the evil king who was perseved as bad and ugly just wanting love. And not really being as bad of a person as they thought he would. Seeing to characters so different falling in love amazed my little mind at the time. So this movie has always been a favorite of mine due to the big impact it had on my childhood. It's not the best in the world, of course, but their anatomy and movement is actually really well thought out for what they are! the fairies look a bit uncanny, but not to an uncomfortable degree, more so in an 'oh these aren't humans with butterfly/moth wings tacked on, they're their OWN creatures', and I love that! the movement of the wings feels natural and smooth, mixing in with the other movements as to expand on who the characters are and just.. add that little extra flare to their personality. And then I just watched it a 4th time right before commenting this. While on my 4th watch, I still found new details in the visuals/story that I hadn't noticed. Like how GOATED Bog King is. (Seriously I love that guy, his voice and interactions with all the characters are just so freaking cool and pleasing to see) Also, I noticed a SUS moment towards the end. When BK and Marianne are arguing about who asked to go outside and fly around together, Roland says "Are you two having a couple's tiff right now?" But before watching the movie a 4th time, I didn't realize Roland MUTTERED UNDER HIS BREATH "That's disgusting, kinda interesting, but disgusting". The way he says "Interesting" has implications. Honestly I really enjoy this review everyone hates on it. The plot definitely needs some more refining and the time it takes place in confuses me to this day but I just love it!! I have a love hate relationship because it could have been so much better but it’s not :( the voice acting is INCREDIBLE and the animation and design of scenes are gorgeous!!!!!! i wish people focused more on the good of it!

This movie is actually one of my go to fluffball goofy movies lol. Its light and short with some good jams and I actually think it's hilarious. Bog and his "mistreated" villain solo slaps 😂

I just kinda stumbled across this video in my suggested feed and I've never seen this movie, but I love how you broke down the development of the romance between the leads. I've never been good at reading character development, so having it broken down like that was really helpful!

I fucking love this movie, when me and my sister found out about it we were obssesed, we rewatched at least 10 time, made fanart, and spent an entire week blasting the soundtrack. Honestly I love this movie and I have stopped caring for what other people say cause this will forever live in my heart

I think Dawn-Sunny relationship should not ended in romantic relationship. It should be love of friends, true friendship or something like that at the end. That would make sense - because you don't drug someone who you truly love. If you love them, you are happy as long as they are happy, you don't make them happy by being with you...

I do think mistreated was actually well utilised. It's our proper intro to the bog king, and he's not singing about how evil he is. He's singing about how he was hurt THATS CLEVER
@mattchaos56922 жыл бұрын
I love the background stories that this film have. There is one part where a goblin, who is found by Roland on his way to the bog kingdom, is told that it's hideous and that at was naked. And in the final song it's wearing a little jacket. Also at the start you can see the squirrel that Roland is riding on in the background. The scene where they were chased by Lizzy (Lizard) has a part where she knocks a branch out of the way and i saw that as a ref to the t-rex in Jurassic park. For designs, I really like Bog Kings, it has the whole evil guys have triangle like and sharp features. But it shows how much effort they put into the designs of each character. The thorns on his face resemble stubble, his "Hair" is spikey and can be seen as a crown/helmet and his body is designed like armour. Compared to the fairies who have butterfly wings and are soft, he is more chitinous and rough all round, including busted up dragonfly wings. Oh, another thing i spotted was that Bog kings throne was the tail bone of a pelvis, which i found pretty funny since it's made for sitting on.

absolutely a guilty pleasure. I see people always hate on the animation and story but I really do love it. I love the songs, the style, the characters. The only thing that "bothers" me is that it takes during one night so it feels rushed. But other than that I've binged watched this before. I think it's about time I give it another go :D

It's based off Shakespeare's midsummer nights dream, which is why the plot is kindda crazy. I highly suggest watching the 1999 film and then rewatch strange magic and the parallels with stick out.
