I've only just recently got back into retro gaming with a Famicom clone and a handful of multi-carts. Couldn't believe it a couple of days ago when I discovered Evercade through a KZbin video. The Evercade VS-R is released on my Birthday! I can't wait to begin my collection. Thoroughly enjoying your videos!

Evercade is an excellent alternative for retro gaming! See if you like the included game pad, personally I play with Sega’s USB pad. Crazy Burger has lots of good videos about the system, I can also recommend the channels A Boy And His Dog as well as Crow Continuum.

Didn’t realise Batsugun Special Version was on here too. I was going to buy it anyway but I’d have bought it just for that! Thanks for the info!

This highlights the main issue with the Evercade Alpha. Playing TATE Mode games on an 8" 4:3 screen wont be significantly bigger than the EXP in TATE Mode. I held up my EXP with 1943 being played in TATE Mode at Full Screen setting against my Jaycade vertical monitor showing a game in 4:3 which gives a usable screen size of around 9" and the difference was probably around the 1-1.25" height difference. These are great games but it won't be the best way to play them which is a real pity. I've already got the full Toaplan Collection on Steam which consists of 16 games total and costs around £60 for the complete bundle, so the Toaplan 3 cart works out at great value. Well done in getting through these games as I know it's not your favourite genre :-) Keep up the awesome work!

Good video. Batsugun is a treat. If you like shooters, oh you're going to love it as it's so much fun and offers excellent challenge. If you don't like shooters, you'll still enjoy the game because as you say you can just credit your way through (and don't forget to use those screen clearing bombs!) and laugh at how often you die (maybe a bit similar to how a lot of people play Metal Slug). Just a quick tip for Outzone. I initially found the game really hard but started pretty much only using the spread shot for the early levels and that makes it much more approachable. (the spread shot also always faces you forward so allows you to play a bit more like a shoot em up vs a run and gun)

I'm really looking forward to this one but I think Toaplan 1 will always be my favorite.

I'm looking forward to this collection. Always was a fan of shoot em ups ever since Space Invaders and Defender for the Atari 2600. I wish they can release the console ports of collection 1 and 2 in one collection.

Amazingly I was a big fan of Defender Stargate 2 on Atari 2600, enjoyed it. Though through age I'm now terrible at it..

The shooting sounds like centipede. The flying patterns look like Galaxian.

I have a similar experience with Batsugun. I’m not good at shoot ‘em ups at all, but I still enjoy it on Saturn. I’m a bit worried about Truxton II and Out Zone, would like to be able to play them on lowest difficulty setting. They look so good, but I don’t play in their league. Fixeight and Ghox are the ones I’m most curious about they could be fun! And Vimana may not be spectacular, but the music sounds good and it could feel like a PC Engine game.

I'm just truly disappointed that Grind Stormer wasn't even on there because that was a great shooter. But still, that aside, it sure was a lovely collection.

Nice one Crazy! Really bad timing with the VS-R as we need one that can hold 3 Toaplan carts now, (not) lol. If you do try the Alpha on its side put it on a towel so not to scratch/rub the art work. 😉

Great video. I'm still missing DIP-switches..
@CrazyBurger7 ай бұрын
Oh yeah forgot to mention that. It's highly likely that dip switches could be added to Evercade in time for November. We desperately need them. So of these games are brutally hard.

I think this'll be more fun than Toaplan 2. I keep on confusing which game is which in that collection. I've played Vimana, Batsugun, Outzone and Fixeight on Steam, and Vimana is the one I haven't managed to get into. I'm not sure about the ball-bouncing game, though -- looks a bit too difficult for me, and as the sole non-shmup on this collection, I'm a bit worried. I hope there'll be a secret game for VS; I wouldn't mind the Megadrive port of Hellfire, Truxton or Zerowing.
@CrazyBurger7 ай бұрын
I kinda think the secret game mightve already been accidentally revealed. Tiger Heli on the NES would be the likely game..

For me, one of the best set of games they’ve ever offered. But they need to be played in TATE mode. Or at a minimum on the VS on a big TV. A lot of Evercaders are going to have to give this one a pass.
