Love this, I hope you come back to it and do some more! I'm currently in the expensive process of hedging almost the entire perimeter of my garden. I already have some Red Robin in a small area. I was considering Laurel but was put off when reading about them being poisonous. Not sure if I am over thinking it? Super keen on the Viburnum for some winter interest, although dubious about how it would look in bulk as hedging!

Photinias have alot of disease issues, atleast here in the states. Coppertop viburnum would be a better choice here. Same red foliage minus all the issues.

I would like ( similar features to the ones you are using) something to grow as a hedge ( part shade but morning sun till 12.00pm ) - can be a tree- as a screen .

This is a perfect video for me and what I’m trying to do in my garden! Do all red robjns flower? My neighbour has one with tight clusters of flowers, but mine has much darker red leaves and never flowers!

thank you for sharing! I'm new to gardening and I find it all a bit overwhelming. I have a small garden and Im looking for an evergreen flowering shrub that will be easy to maintain and will provide some privacy. Very pleased to have come across your video, it answered some questions I had :) Now I need to decide between Osmanthus and Viburnum :)

Very good approach to this theme. Maybe you should take in consideration the root developement over the years. Believe you me, I have six neighbours with very mature hegdes. They have the privacy, I have to deal with the roots. It´s costly and you may relie on a lawyer at the end. I know it is about plants, but every plant has roots. Subbed anyways.

How high does the prunus grow?
@Jorg051119803 жыл бұрын
Photinia as a hedge is in my opinion a bit too open, it also tends to loose leaves in the winter, sometimes without any real clear reason. I'd say the Laurel is by far the easiest / cheapest to use as a hedge.

Hi Bec, I have small garden and would like to make hedge for 10 meters. Is it better to have hedge of 1 type of plant eg. only photinia or only viburnum tinus? Or is that possible to mix photinia with viburnum tinus? What is the spacing for the plant with height 30/40cm? Thanks for your advise.
@becplantsplants7653 жыл бұрын
Hello, you can absolutely have a mixed hedge! I'd plant 60cm - 100cm apart to allow for each plants mature size.

Hi! This is a great video! We have been looking at a Viburnum x burkwoodii for privacy from our neighbours. The position is part shade and we would like it to grow around 8 foot. Would you recommend this?
