Everquest - Exploit DESTROYS Oakwynd & Daybreak FAIL to respond.

Not the video i wanted to make but here we are: this week has been an interested one. Recently there was an exploit in Everquest that was taken to the extreme by some players on Oakwynd effectively destroying the economy and Daybreak refuse to take any meaningful action!

Excellent overview of the disappointment 90% of the tlp players are feeling right now. In the guild I’m in there’s 10+ people right now that have canceled their subs. It’s really sad to see because this TLP’s rulesets were just starting to get good. We went from talking about raiding together for the next couple of years to wondering if we are still going to be raiding together in the next two months.

All accounts involved should be perma banned, all associated accounts of those accounts should be banned, the servers should be rolled back and they need to apologies to the player base. I cancelled all my subs, my main and my boxes are unsubbed until they sort it out.

I just canceled my subscription. I had no idea what was going on since I was on break for Thanksgiving. I came back online and found that everything in the bazar basically went 10x in price. I can't enjoy a game where I have what I feel is a lot of money, items, and time invested and just after a week hiatus I come back and it's all worthless because DBG lets people get away with pumping billions of plat into the economy.

Even before this, the effect of Krono on the game and the general lack of care by Daybreak ensured that I have zero interest in the 25th anniversary TLP. Zaides latest video/podcast pretty much confirms what I always suspected about the rampant use of cheat programs and general exploits. EQ needs to pass to a company that actually cares and until then, Quarm will fill the gap for me.

If you think it is better on private server. You will have some surprises. You can't box so you can lfg for hours. And there is no AoC, so the raid scene is total cancer

I'm not surprised this happened. Even though I love EQ I saw the writing on the wall that the owners simply don't care. It's not so much the poor code it's just the general lack of effort and meta-policy around burdening the player with developer ended mistakes. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was when I lost a raid item in a trade window. I searched the issue and saw it was so common that there was a specific policy around them messing up and not returning the item. Basic stuff around item integrity on the server that any other MMO would find some way to make restitution for was such a common thing on EQ that there was an official 'we throw up our hands' policy on it. That was the point where I said yeah I'm not playing this. If that's there style this is going to bleed out to other areas of the philosophy and that same lack of care and burdening the player with in house laziness on the developer end is going to bite them.

I had just started playing again a bit over 3 months ago. I had started on a different server but saw that Oakwynd had just started and wanted to get into the game from close to the beginning, so I bought the sub and started playing. Now this has happened, and DB has done nothing and the economy is destroyed. So, at this point I have no desire to play in a game where breaking the game is acceptable. Too bad because I was enjoying the game. But just canceled my sub and won't be back unless they do a drastic rollback and remove the players, items and plat that was gotten through the dup. Love the game ,but don't trust the devs and DB.

I remember seeing the bots on Yelinak in classic, kunark, velious - it was so obvious and easy to spot them - if they put the tinniest amount of resource behind it they could have disrupted them, but they didn't. Was only a matter of time till something like this happened

so sorry for everyone who actually was enjoying the Oakwind TLP. I almost started up a character myself; now so glad I didn't. My choice to play p1999 has never let me down, dont think I will ever move on. *edit* omfg when he brought up the fact some items dont drop anymore and they were scoffed up just gutted me. "They were basically stolen" is terrible.

I canceled my two very active accounts. I have a handful of Krono left and I'll play until they're gone, but after that I have to be done with this game. Not even the 25th anniversary TLP will bring me back. I can't really say anything that you didn't say already in this video. The damage is done, it's gone on FAR too long for them to do a rollback at this point. The continued mishandling of this game is just too much to continue monetarily supporting. Unless they do something MAJOR to make up for the near complete inaction on this issue, I'm going to be done playing my literal #1 favorite game of all time. And that is just almost too sad to bear typing...

EverQuest needs to go to a company which will actually take care of it since it’s making money. This tells me the devs were involved making krono as well and didn’t want to roll it back. I agree with many others, Quarm/other MMOs will be my home for now and the hypothetical EQ3 will have to be pretty amazing for me to consider playing if these are the devs responsible for it

I cancelled my sub. I was enjoying my time on Oakwynd and was looking forward to riding it out for a long while, but the non-response from DP completely destroyed my desire to stick it out. I'm a casual with one account. I can't hope to even tread water with the way the economy is screwed up. I'm just absolutely disappointed and it would take a near miracle for me to give them any more money.

I don't know how people can't realize by now that the reason the game feels so corrupt is because the employees are the ones doing the corruption. The employees make more money exploiting the game than they make from working there.

Apparently a lot of people are having fun on Quarm but I couldn't do it. The client is old and camera view is terrible. Coming from tlp, the dated janky client of Quarm will hit you like a truck

Definitely missing some QOL features from tlp but I will take that over bot armies, loot sold for cash via krono and the general mess that is every TLP. Loving Quarm so far, especially with the enforced raid rotations, just generally a good vibe

The raid scene will be total cancer. I was on the blue server on p99 for 3 years. The batphone at 3am for a raid.. the quantity of ban just because you ran 1sec too early to tag the mob.. 2 items in 2 years of raiding.. no thanks

I stopped playing just before Velious was released (with the intent of starting up at PoP)... It was obvious from watching Relentless Insomnia (and some other bad apples) constantly attempt to exploit mechanics that seemed great (FTE, rulesets, etc).. We get it, there are flaws in this 24-year old game. It sure would be nice if these degenerates would just comply with game rules like everyone else - unfortunately a lot of these dudes get a kick out of destroying the game/making people quit. I certainly am upset with DBG for constantly being a pushover with repercussions, but in all honesty, I'm significantly more disappointed in the players that find this persistent desire to spread this incel behavior and tarnish one of the greatest games of all time.. Here's to finding out what they exploit next!

The "Pay to Win" mentality has invaded most games out there today. EQ picked this up as a way to supplement income. OK, no problem as nobody is twisting an arm to buy anything. The introduction of a way to pay in game for a sub may have been a decent idea for anyone who would not pay to play a decades old game. Fine. But the unwillingness to manage these things and stay after exploiters is a sign. It's a sign that as long as there are people spending CASH to buy things in the Daybreak store, they are willing to overlook things as long as they are making some $$$, especially if it is a BIG increase in that money. If I understood it right, people were paying for all kinds of stuff, and a LOT of it due to the exploit issue. (Correct me if that is wrong) But bottom line is that if they do anything crazy, they are afraid of what it does to their bottom line.

Given the holiday I'm not all that surprised at the slow response but if it isn't followed up on quickly the playerbase will learn just what you said: cheating is just fine. Online games where cheating becomes rampant tend to become places where only the cheaters play because it is too frustrating for everyone else. I'm not expecting them to do anything else unless this impacts the company's bottom line. That seems to be all that management ever cares about these days.

@@Erekai All you be doing is killing EQ but since Daybreak does not care. Too many Cancel and not play shuts the server down. I come back once in a while mostly I don't give them a penny. They mostly get the Exp cost plus 3 months of Scription & then cold turkey. Not this year and pretty much not expecting much from the 25th Anniversary.

The whole game has been destroyed since krono and defiant and mercs. Killing off old items making them garbage was bad as well. The experience in the game is just way too slow for the modern day just a bit extreme especially the last nerf was absurd. The mobs are way to freaking nasty they hit like a truck around 85+ for sure starting in the 100s making it ridiculous for newbies. Everquest don't they don't give a S%$t and neither do I now. The game was legendary in the early 2000s. Now its garbage which is sad.

They destroyed it long time ago with omens of war and gates of discord. I was in the top guild in that era and after pop/ldon our guild struggled eith raid gear. The regular mobs were freaking hardcore. So imagine a casual player. I tried luchion beta and man.. this is so hard, its ridiculous. Thats why WoW is so popular even if i hate that game. Casuals players can have fun. Not in EQ

No, you are wrong. The punishment wasn't a 7 day suspension to the people who were exploiting the bug. Any person who had used the tradeskill depot was automatically suspended for 7 days whether they did anything wrong or not. Even in the suspension email that was sent out it said suspended pending investigation. Meaning we don't even know if you did anything wrong or not but we're going to suspend you for 7 days anyway until we figure it out. The exploiters got permanent ban, and some innocent people who weren't aware of the bug but were inadvertently duplicating items through normal intended game play have also received permanent bans because of it.

Some innocents got swept in 7 day and a lot have been overturned already from what I’ve heard! A lot of the exploiters have definitely not been Permenantly banned or even suspended. I still see the names in the bazaar

Economies in MMOs are incredibly exploitable. I choose to not participate much in economies, and I enjoy the game much more. I prefer to put the effort in to acquire my own items, rather than to purchase with platinum or Krono. The multibox cheaters, however, those bots cause major game disruptions. I really hope that they become enemy #1, and absolute priority. A sweeping change to end macroquesters/bots would also have a positive ripple on economies.

Unsubbed my 3 accounts w/ perks. What's the point? Automated groups of 15+ accounts in Skyfire in Kunark, automated groups in Siren's Grotto or Chardok, constantly farming cash. No penalties for duping items/money and stealing from other players accounts.
