Everquest - Oakwynd - From the MOON to the PLANES

Everquest Oakwynd server is finally entering Planes of Power, what some consider the turning point in EQ developing more modern MMORPG mechanics. A quick overview and guide on what to expect.

The Charm slot wasn't added to the game until LoY and.the Planar Progression charm was added retroactively.

In terms of memories PoP was the first time I was in a great raiding guild. Was one of the original members of Assent on Maelin when Kaidman formed it after another guild we were in fractured. I had been in raiding guilds before that but they weren't too good. Got to see all of the PoP and Luclin end game and was my favorite time in EQ. Unfortunately, got burned out once we got into Time. Also F the rathe council. I dont know how many hours/attempts we put into it but it was brutal. Though once we beat it, it was probably the biggest dopamine hit of my life.

As someone without any nostalgia for the game and with a fresh pair of eyes, I personally feel that PoP is a regression in the gameplay. I initially started playing EQ because I wanted to play an open world sandbox MMO with the ability to go anywhere when and how I wanted. The planes are the antithesis of this design style. Having to get flagged to even enter the Planes and look around or xp grind is so jarring that I feel my journey in Norrath has come to an end. The best way I can put it is PoP feels like going from Elden Ring to Demons Souls. Brad McQuaid leaving and the 50 personnel that left with him just before the release of Luclin is definitely evident in PoP.

Loved PoP, got a late start to it because the graphics were too much for my very old PC. Due to RL, ended up forced leave from the game from early OOW release when we were about to get into time until after DoN released and that was closer to DoDh. Played sporadically, did get into Time twice on a recruit gearing run there until WoW took over for about all but 4 or 5 months in the next several years. That being said, hopefully will be elemental flagged by weeks end and maybe get into them Friday? Still not 100% sure, but excited.

PoP is the best! I finally returned since leaving before Velious (screw velious/luclin lmao), and its been SO FUN. Golden Roosters is currently 2 planes away from time (air/earth).. Love this crash course :) My only question with PoP is 'What the hell is Plane of War + Plane of Health?' I've completed PoP 4 times and don't think ive ever stepped into either of these zones lol
