Great show! One of a select few reasonable Spurs-pods that I'm able to listen to! On Romero and getting Dragusin in the team, the CB has license to go to the middle of the pitch or the final third if there is space and opportunity (remember Romero when trying to get back into the game against Arsenal last season), so there is no 'need' for Romero to be in the midfield per se, since he can get there. I seem to remember that Ange doesn't really view players in terms of 6s or 8s, but rather a fluid system where players can pop all over the place. Of course, that may also lend itself to some chaos and miscommunication, and it really puts pressure on everyone to be in tune. Anyway, hoping for a real statement win on Saturday, but I'll take a 1-0 with loads of missed chances as well. Cheers!

@@perdani82 Thanks 😊. True, Ange often speaks of the 'system' and that he doesn't put midfielders into boxes. Roll on Everton and in Ange we trust! COYS

Agreed on the 6/8 point. In order to have that fluidity Ange is going to have to find his preferred pairing in the middle given that Madders is nailed on 10

Callum McGregor played No 6 for Ange at Celtic (and Ange made him captain) and he was a classic pivot. So I think Ange sees the benefit of a DM to assist implementation of the system and cover the back line. And yeah I like the idea of Cuti at 6…
@OhSoSpurs4 ай бұрын
Interesting, thanks for sharing. So Cuti at 6 wasn't as left field as Jon thought then 😉

Jim, given the outcome of the Everton match (the performance of Bissouma, the presence of Archie G) and the return of Bentancur (though arguably more an 8) are we in retrospect adequately covered for the No 6?
@harveyfuqua66333 ай бұрын
The issue is not that we drew our first game. The issue is that this is a continuation our form from the second part of last season where we were not killing teams and we were conceding goals for fun. It was also because we drew against Leicester, arguably the worst team in the Premier League.
@sydneysider37644 ай бұрын
The 1-1 draw will get the young players growing up quicker and more motivated. A 3-0 result the young players might come away thinking they are at the level and the PL is easy. Likely good for the fans to see how brittle they are as well. Hopefully the players go on to batter Everton in front of the home fans and restore confidence ahead of Newcastle, Arsenal and Brighton. I took Monday’s result badly. Playing so well and then showing many failings from last season almost made it worse in my eyes. So many disappointments down the years. Half fit Vardy also wound me up. I don’t like the look of some of those upcoming fixtures and a bad run will ramp up the pressure. Let’s hope we rise to the occasion. Thanks for talking me off the ledge.

great chat guys , a couple of observations about leceister, football is a fickle mistress, chelsie for instance similar squad attack contribution to man c , and beat man c in xg, but lost 2 zip, chelsie fans should be irked. spurs squad attack contribution 3.5 v leceister slightly over 1 generated by two players , 1 all draw, spurs fans should be irked. there were two elephants in the room last season re the data for spurs , and they are still overstaying their welcome into game one this season elephant one, spurs winning possession , losing xg or not getting their fair share. 70% possession against leceister, 70 touches inside the box , and spurs making almost as many passes in the final third as all of leceister , and yet generating a measly xg of around 1.2. going by the pre season and game one in the league , elephant one is still in the room. elephant two, spurs exhibiting high volatility in game momentum , generating a tidal wave of momentum as angeball is supposed to do , but then dropping off a cliff for 15 to 20 minute periods , inevitably leaking goals . same happened in the pre season and against leceister . there are two ways of dealing with this , either drop bodies behind the ball temporarily to get back control, or use the negative game state as a trigger to double down on the intensity. elephant two is still in the room. what last season proved was that the league came up with an adequate tactical response to anges systems about a 10/11 games in , and ange hadnt clawed back that ground lost tactically by the end. the good news is , if the past is any guide, ange usually doubles down in these situations , and he brings a bigger sledge hammer, and solankes signing is classic ange . there needs to be more though , because the underlying data suggests other than maddison , the midfield doesnt cut it relative to the other big teams in the league , so heres hoping that a 2nd ange pre season has found more upside and behavioural change in the existing squad , , but spurs really need one or two mids with outlier attack and defensive metrics . hopefully that happens with whats left of the transfer window

That's the way you want it to be. It shows that the system is solid. You always want to minimise errors, but you never will eliminate them completely.
@lewistickle48813 ай бұрын
The reason this happens so consistently is because the defenders are always left out of position/scrambling due to the nature of our tactics... high line, 2 CBs left alone with 7 - 8 players committed forward all the time, same structural issues as last year, can work with clinical/quality forwards which unfortunately we lack, can see a lot more games like this unless Ange sures up the defense/ tempers his attack somewhat
