1000% should be able to get a manager job and climb up the ranks. In the middle of the video was thinking that, and then got to the end…. Really hope he gets through. There is no doubt institutional racism/racism that he has to get through, but really hope he does, because he comes across as someone who *should* be a PL manager.

This is the first time I have watched Simon do anything like this. I must say that I'm very impressed at the way he brought out the character of Jermaine. He not only put over what made him who he is but why. He was not only a brilliant footballer but a deep thinker on life and the game. I know the hard work he put into the game, and I am sure someone someday will give him the opportunity to coach or manage. I am certain that if he gets the chance he will make a success of it.

That was a genuinely insightful interview and showed a different side of Jermain. Simon made him consider the importance of perspective and how he can assume the demeanour of a leader rather than just an ex-player. Defoe has the qualities of knowing you have to work and be willing to examine yourself and make changes. I sincerly hopes he takes something from this interview and comes back with a belief that he can become a manager and takes consistent and persistent action to make it. Well done to both Jermaine and Smon, this was not a vacuous social media interview.

I played with Jermain briefly when he was at Charlton. Turned up one day in his England tracksuit, asked who I was (I was a year older and playing up top with him) and he told me to just give him the ball - we beat an American team 11-0 and he got 7. Absolutely driven, rated himself, but it was very evident even as a 14 or 15 year old that he was going to have not just a career in football, but an excellent one at that. I went on to play against him at Upton Park in a youth team game (a dream for me as a Hammer to play at the old ground). He got 2 or 3 and ran us ragged in a 4-1 defeat. Top player, great memories
