Everything else is just drama, details, keep it complex. Ps. When it comes to symbolism, blood is life, fire is too, but fire can destroy and give life, without warm and fire humans die off. Ice, cold is symbolism for death. It is all really simple. This is why I even hate 8 season of GOT so much more...still trying to forget that. Same as the 3 endings of Mass Effect 3, those scars will never heal. So much potential for epic ending and so much laziness to finish the damn project.

It's the blood of old Valyria that has an innate connection to dragons, not just Targaryens. House Celtigar and Velaryon were both minor Valyrian houses who cane to Westeros before The Doom. Neither were dragon lords because they were so far down the chain. They still descended from Valyria and had blood of the Dragon.

That’s correct. Valyria was known as the “Greatest city in the known world”. It was a center of civilization… and slavery… blood magic… and horrible capitalistic people. There were multiple dragon riding families in Valyria besides the Targaryens. The other dragon lord families were way more powerful than the Targaryens, and had hundreds of dragons that are theorized to be giant compared to even Balerion. Also to go back to the blood magic thing, Valyrian dragon lords are theorized to have practiced incest or intermarriage between only other pure Valyrian Dragon riders, to keep the dragons within their families. There is many videos to explain the history of incest, blood magic, binding spells, and dragon horns that the Valyrians used to keep their dragons under their families control, and not share them to other Valyrian families who didn’t have “the blood of the dragon”. So beyond it being a city with dragon riders, there were many Valyrian families like the Velaryon’s who didn’t control dragons until the started marrying the Targaryens. Sadly because of the Doom of Valyria (literally a giant firey volcanic apocalyptic event that killed everyone in the city) The Targaryens were the only dragon riding family left in Westeros that anyone ever talked about again. This was because of Daenys the Dreamer warning her family (the Targaryens) of a vision she saw, of the destruction of Valyria. So all the Targaryens left Valyria and 12 years later the Doom happened and the Targaryens where suddenly the only people to have dragons. Also they are the historically important as they ruled over Westeros for like 300 years? So that’s why Targaryens became very important within the story.

@@AzulPeach I do get all that part. What if the families did intermingle with folks that eventually had families in different parts of the world. Such a power in that world, blood and genealogy could be vast. I know George likes using historical moments in our world for a bases for his stories. What if Ghengis khan whose genes are across many groups of people in the world today due to how great his empire was, was used as a base for future stories. If it were, then theoretically there could be possible riders outside the known and possible families out there due to how great the Valyrian Freehold was.

Laynar Valerion is a Targyreon. His mother is Rhynus Targyreon, the queen that never was. Also the Valyrion family comes from old Valeria, they have the blood of Valeria in them. Sorry about the spelling of the names.

That's not how the bond works. The only strict rule that's confirmed is that a single rider has never been able to ride more than one dragon, as in, if the first bonded dragon still lives, any other dragons you try to mount would likely refute you at best and kill you at worst. Matter fact, it's shown in the show and books that dragons with dead riders do accept new riders, though an somewhat uncommon occurrence since it could take generations for a dragon with a dead rider before it accepted a new one. What this means though is that sea smoke would likely still acknowledge Laenor as his rider even if he / she, idk it's gender, was already being ridden by Addam, but it also means neither Addam or Laenor could ever claim a different dragon so long as sea smoke still lives. They would essentially be forced into sharing sea smoke. So yeah, two people can ride the same dragon but the same person can't ride two different living dragons. If that makes sense.

House Valyrian is from old Valyria. They like the Targaryen family fled their old home before it was destroyed. Back then they would have lived with dragons. It makes sense that they would have the ability to ride dragons. Throughout the show it is stated that Valyrians and Targaryens share blood this means they both are able to have dragons. Furthermore the statement that only Targaryens are able to ride dragons is a Game Of Thrones thing because by the time GOT occurs by the time of Daenerys... House Valyrian is gone. We never have a mention of them instead of them wielding the sea it is House Greyjoy. And as none of the houses in Game Of Thrones besides Targaryen has the blood from such Valyria and the old kingdom of dragons... this means that of course none of them can ride dragons. On top of that you say that that these dragons shouldn’t be able to be ridden by those who ride them. But Lucerys who rode Arrax were Targaryen by their mother’s blood this means Arrax was a Targaryen dragon. Furthermore, the Dragon Seeds are stated to be the bastards of House Targaryen and Valyrian. This means they would have the blood of old Valyria and of dragons meaning they would be able to ride dragons and understand those dragons. Targaryens are only stated to be the only ones to wield dragons cause they are the only surviving dragon riders. Those who wielded the dragons in Valyria burned and were destroyed in the doom. Only Valyrian and Targaryen survived and by the time that GOT started Targaryens are the only ones that have dragons or the blood of the dragons.

Leanor can ride dragons because his mother is Targaryen sort of like how Gohan can go Super Saiyan because he's partially Saiyan. In old Valyria there were numerous families of dragon riders besides the Targaryens but most of the other dragon riding families either vanished in the Doom of Valyria or were later killed in the "Century of Blood", a series of conflicts that took place in Essos after Valyria collapsed. The Targaryens escaped the Doom of Valyria and settled in Westeros where their ancestors had previously built Dragonstone as a settlement. Over time, House Targaryen was left as the last known dragon riders. In old Valyria, House Velaryon were a rich minor family and were not apart of the dragon riding households in Valyria. But they were a family that had ships and survived the Doom of Valyria because they had already established the Driftmark settlement in Westeros. Despite this, Leanor is half Targaryen by blood so he can ride dragons.

In the show, a lot of riders are targaryen by blood, but in the novels it is less clear. While Daneryes in a Valeryan by looks her memories run contrary to established/known history (She might not be a targaryan or even a Blackfiyre) She my no more be Targaryean than king Robert Barathion. Nettles is seen by some as taming dragons with food and wits rather than a magic blood bond. I think either order of the green hand or preston jacobs called it "Nettling" a dragon.
