Literally, they should've marketed this film a bit better and they'd have another OP intellectual property ready to wreak havoc on the market - legit, just because the box office didn't match expense doesn't mean the film didn't overall and with audiences on streaming especially 🫠. Seeing as the big studios and distributors want fan heavy 'risks', well, who knows what went wrong. Clearly they made a fat buck or two, a pretty dime, and despite investing in failing unjust sequels, true fans are left without a Dredd expansion. Sad really... 💀

Chief Judge Goodman who you briefly mentioned in this video, was looked at as a man of the people. He was seen as a fair man by cits but in the Justice Dept, they saw him as an old man who went soft. In one story, the SJS were attempting to cover up an old secret that Dredd was getting too close to. The SJS judges had Dredd surrounded and when an SJS member was about to give the order to fire, showing Goodman zero respect, Goodman decided to act, punching the agent in the face, smashing the agents radio with the punch and embedding pieces of the broken radio in to the mans face. A group of junior judges saw what he did and he turned it in to a teaching opportunity. The juniors respected Goodman and when asked, they answered obviously if Goodman hit him, he saw good reason to do so. One of the juniors then pointed out that while the agent is unconscious, he was now a crim so Goodman should cuff him. Goodman praised their perception of the situation and sends them back to their dorms. I love Goodman, he's the most human of all the judges but don't ever mistake his fairness for weakness

I can still remember browsing a book shop in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, South Africa, called Estoril books about 1990, and picking up a 2000AD comic, with Chopper on his board. I believe it was the third episode of Song of the Surfer, and I stood there reading the comic front to back. Slaine the Horned god. The long walk. Judge Dredd, and then Chopper. I bought the comic and came back the next day to get the two preceding issues of Song of the Surfer. I'm 51 years old now, but can still remember that cover art, reading that story, I can still remember where I was the day I started collecting comics, can still remember what story made me a collector. I don't collect anymore, but I will always remember that issue, that cover, and the story of Chopper in Super Surf 11, the Song of the Surfer. THANKS for bringing back that memory.

A Bit Off Topic: There was a South African bookstore chain in the 90s/2000s called Paperweight that sold 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, they also had the Heavy Metal comics. I don't know if CNA still exists, but they also sold 2000 AD.

@@neontetra1000 Before reading that comic, comic art, in my mind, was always 'comicy'(Except for the warrior magazines I got on holiday about 10 years before that). But seeing Simon Bisleys work, man it was art. Every frame with so much attention to detail. It still blows my mind. And yeah, ABC warriors deserved more than the nod in the original Dredd movie. Also would have loved to see Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper, and Miracleman from the Warrior magazine run. But thats not the stuff that money people believe will make them money.

There was a short Dredd story where someone throws a chewing gum wrapper out of a window from a tower block. Dredd sees it land, picks it up and does a DNA analysis of the wrapper. Then he determines who littered, goes up to the 200th floor, arrests them for littering and gives them 10 years in an iso cube.
