I love this franchise because you can ask 10 people what their ranking would be and get 10 different answers. It's such a special franchise because of that and why it's continued to live on despite not having a critically acclaimed movie since 1986 with Romulus finally breaking that barrier again. You'll get a lot of fans who will demand Alien and Aliens be held above all others but our tastes are subjective and what appeals to one person won't appeal to another so don't let them make you doubt yourself here.

Dallas (Tom Skerritt) was the bigger actor at the time. His death in the first one was a choice, because then you felt anyone could die if the star could die. Also, it isn't really that the Xenomorphs were nerfed in Aliens as much as the first film was a bunch of Space Truckers. Aliens they are a bunch of well trained Marines packing heavy fire power. The Pulse RIfle alone is a 10mm armor piercing explosive tip caseless. It penetrates on impact and explodes inside combined with the rate of fire each Alien is being hit with 10-20 rounds per burst. The Pulse Rifle in the hands of Marines isn't a joke.

I think I actually agree with you other than covenant, I just couldn’t get past the cgi on the xenomorphs. Romulus surprised me. It was the first one I got to see in theaters and it was so good. I personally could do with a different ending… that kinda threw me off a bit but overall it was great. I also think that Aliens could interchange for #1 for me as well.

I think comapred to some other franchises, Alien got relatively good treatment from hollywood. At least they didn't massacre it like some other ones, and even rejuvenated it to a degree with some interesting movies.

I just watched Romulus last night! It's a great movie and it looks awesome. Sound design was sick! (spoilers;) love that we get some more lore about the pathogen and a confirmation that it's mutations are unique (most freaky thing I've ever seen! :D :S), also some throwbacks/references from Alien, on the verge of cheesey/forced sometimes but OK. Agree that the subjects of "AI" are also very interesting! I probably have to watch it more times to really soak it all in, like I had to with the others, so I don't mean to sound negative, just thinking out lod what I currently feel about it. For me personally, Prometheus and Convenant grew on me and are both _way_ more interesting than Romulus because of the lore and subject of where do we all come from, where is the pathogen from, David... and I was probably hoping to see that excellent storyline continued in Romulus, but no. Who knows, maybe a new movie will explore it more. We don't have all the answers about the pathogen etc.. but maybe we never will! :)

Personally I don't include AvP films as part of the Alien series I count them as predator films especially as the origin story is completely different but hay ho if we must include them... 9th - A v P Requiem 8th - Alien 3 7th - Alien Resurrection 6th - A v P 5th - Alien: Romulas 4th - Prometheus 3rd - Alien Covenant 2nd - Aliens 1st - Alien I did really enjoy Romulas , its by far the closest to Alien/Aliens we have had from the sequels love so much about the feel of the film its just not quite as interesting, well , I hate spoilers so I will leave it there...

Romulus has in my opinion best visuals out of all of this movies which for makes it a lot more rewatchable than alien and aliens. As for the first movie,in some scenes its prity clear that its just a man in the suit, especialy when Riply ejects him out of the shutle when Alien is T posing, which kinda makes me laugh when I watch that scene. And audio is prity bad, I had to turn my audio to max to hear what were people saying. Second one looked prity great with aliens unlike the first one, but when they were using the pulse rifle I couldn't see or hear jack shit was going on. Also does anybody else find it weird how in prometheus and covenant, the space ships look so more futuristic compared to ones in alien and aliens, yet these are supposed to be prequels. It doesn't make any sense, its like if the tech in universe is "evolving backwards".

Alien Resurrection Ultimately, they're all good in some way or another. I am a sucker for a good story and some interesting alien stuff, even if the characters aren't always the best. And sometimes i just like an action monster flick with guns and aliens eating people. I honestly don't even feel like my list really captures my true feelings on the movies. cause honestly even though Resurrection is 7, I still enjoy watching it alot and actually have watched it a dozen times now. Not my favorite, but i still have a lot of fun with it.

I disagree with so much of this list, especially the top 4, but to each their own. Alien and Aliens are the obvious best films in the franchise and the other films just don't come close. Alien is my favourite and is one of the best horror movies of all time with a lot of emphasis on the characters and atmosphere, building up to the xenomorph's reveal and rampage. Aliens is my second favourite and one of the greatest action movies of all time, again with a lot of care for the characters and atmosphere, with the addition of kickass gun action. I don't know what world could Alien: Covenant be better than that original movie when it has so much more problems with its characters and the alien lore and even if Romulus might be good, I don't believe it will be as good as the first two. I just wonder if it is recency bias or something, not that I should insult you for your opinion, because we all have our own opinions, but putting Romulus at the top feels that way to me.

I will always defend Alien 3. As a major fan of the franchise, the Alien 3 theatrical is ABSOLUTE garbage. Director's cut, probably top 3 if I were to just put it on to casually watch. Resurrection's biggest complaint I hear is Ripley is the same personality we know from the first two films. And while yes, she is a hybrid/clone in Resurrection, I always like to think that Ripley is just SO DONE with aliens and so seasoned that she is unfazed by it all.

I disagree. Even though the Assembly Cut (not director's cut because David Fincher was not involved in it), is better than the original cut, I don't think it is that much better and still has so much of the same problems as that movie. It still has some of that bad CGI, also those awkwardly framed tracking shots, it is still disrespectful to the ending of Aliens and I couldn't care about any of the characters apart from Ripley, Clemens and S.Dutton's character.

Personally i didnt like Romulus from a story point of view. Dont get me wrong, as a movie its great (especially for those whom didnt see any other alien movie), but as part of the Alien franchise it sucks balls. The thing is, it doesnt bring anything to the story and its incredibly formulaic and predictable. Gang of people from a shit planet (alien3) goes off to leave, finds abandoned spaceship (alien2). Gets infected and tries to run around. All die except for a girl and half-of-an-android (alien). Once they thought they were safe, another alien shows up (alien, alien resurrection, covenant, etc). Last xeno is human hibrid (alien resurrection). Girl throws xeno into space (alien, alien resurrection, aliens etc). The end. Romulus is so damn predictable and caters so much to all the tropes that it checks literally all the boxes. Everything in Romulus has been already done. For me the name of this movie isnt Alien Romulus.. its Alien Redux. My ranking would be like this: Alien, Alien Covenant, Aliens, Prometeus, Romulus, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection. (I dont like AVP at all) All the first 4 in my list are the movies that actually expanded the story and the concept of the Xenomorphs. Ofc im subjective. People like different things. I personally look more to concepts and scripts than gore and action. I didnt even needed to see Xenos in Prometeus to enjoy it.
