I loved that "Coven" was more focused on the girls, and was very well written, acted and shot. The characters were all unique and layered, and the Stevie Nicks cameo was the cherry on the cake! 🍒

It is easily one of the worst and i fkn HATED it so much that i dropped AHS after 1 episode and half. Then came back until...1984, with apocalypse being so fkn bad in the 2nd half that i ain't watching this trash ever again. Coven is literally the start of the end. The reason the latter seasons are all so fkn bad and so woke and political. Also the switch of actors to something much worse. Oh and it also dropped horror in favor of... whatever the fuck you wanna call coven. Drama? For teens? For women? They completely dropped the target audience and switched with a 180, from horror fans to teen drama with supernatural elements. When they dropped lady Gaga in hotel i knew that show ain't for me or horror fans anymore.

Asylum was chilling to the core. I still remember watching it for the first time when it originally aired, I was definitely scared. Sarah Paulson being held against her wish in the asylum is one of my worst nightmares seen on screen.

Freak Show will alway be my favorite storyline from American Horror Story. It’s a completely different type of horror, and it’s rich with compelling and interesting characters. The episode “Monsters Among Us” is by far one of my favorite television episodes, without a doubt.

Dr. Thredson is one of the best villains in the entire series. Zachary Quinto was absolutely incredible in that role. Also, the decline of sister Jude played by Jessica Lange Her slow driving into madness and insanity is just horrifying to watch. I also really enjoyed Lily as Mary Eunice and James Cromwell as former Nazi doctor Hans Gruber and current asylum employee doctor Arthur Arden

I know I'm in a minority, but I actually enjoyed Freak Show quite a lot. It wasn't my favorite, that still goes to Coven, but I'd put it in my top 5. (Was a little annoyed by the seemingly random musical numbers tho)

It’s crazy how AHS Season can mean so much to different people, some people hate a Season and others love one. I hate clowns and I’m really not into musicals so Freakshow was not for me at all. But I can see why others loved it.

I love Freak Show as well! My top 5 are Coven Murder House Freak Show Asylum Hotel I didn’t really care for any of the seasons after that. Cult & Apocalypse were okay, but the others I just couldn’t get into. I really wish AHS would go back to the way it was in the beginning. The first few seasons were incredible!

My favorite is Asylum. Not only it was the best season of AHS, it was also the most important season in regards of the future longevity of the show. Murphy took a huge risk in making AHS an anthology series rather than a continuation of the original premise because an anthology series type of story telling had never been done on television before and there was a risks of losing fans of Murder House who became attached to the story and the previous characters they grew to love and forcing the audience to abandon its previous season and embrace an entirely new storyline was a lot to ask for the viewers. It worked out in the end because fans absolutely embraced the anthology series premise and it wouldn’t have been possible if Asylum wasn’t successful!

The Twilight Zone had a different story for each episode while AHS had one main storyline for its entire season. I mean maybe you can make the point that singular one episode plots in a tv show counts as an anthology series but AHS was the first network show to based an an entire season on a singular storyline and changing it every year. Shows like Fargo and American Crime follow that same structure after the success of AHS Asylum.

I loved Coven the most because they took the richness of New Orleans culture and history and ran with it. I remember watching the disney movie princess and the frog and thinking it sucked and could have been so much better given how amazing and unique new Orleans is. I cant even remember any of the songs in that film because they were awful. But AHS Coven milked new orleans for everything it had. Marie Laveau, Delphine Lalaurie, the jazz ax man, voodoo etc. It was awesome. Plus the witches aye

Murder House is nostalgic but it didn’t age well, Asylum is by far the best cinematically and story wise, I absolutely adored Freakshow but somewhere within it is where AHS’s pacing got a tad off. Ironically one of my least favorites Roanoke is the scariest, and Cult is an underrated gem in my opinion! But the rest are just somewhat likable or just really bad… Red Tide started out so convincing and turned into a dumpster fire. and the other story in Double Feature was so bad during the first episode I couldn’t sit through it. I was let so down after that and I never gave AHS a chance again. Anything new that is. Edit: Oh yeah and I completely forgot that “STORIES” was a thing. We won’t talk about that. 💀

Cult & Roanoke both deserve to be way higher than Coven. Give the former credit for trying to exclude supernatural phenomena also Ally wasn’t that progressive because she voted for Jill Stein & I wish Apocalypse could’ve revealed that the nukes happened not because of Michael’s powers but partially due to Ally having major protest voter-esque incompetence as a world leader. Also Evan, Sarah & Dennis’s performances in Hotel were what should define the season’s merits certainly not Gaga.

I agree with this list minus "Freakshow". I'm so sorry for any disabled person issue with this season (the same ppl who were prob. Angry with "The Witches" ) but every character had a backstory and were presented as more then their disability. Suicide, abortion, racism , f-ing Hitler were ok and this is where the franchise went wrong? AGAIN I deeply apologize to anyone who felt insulted by that season.

I'm just appalled at the marked difference in writing between the first 7 seasons to whatever the hell they are doing now. NYC is a mess of randomly sweaty gay men in the 80s dealing with a serial killer and a weak allegory for the AIDS crisis which keeps getting twisted into a more confusing mess

I'm sorry, but Double Feature was not confusing. Red Tide had perfect pace, great casting (Finally great to see Peters and Wittrock as enemies again, haven't really seen that since Freak Show. Plus Macaulay Culkin rising from the ashes? Yes please) and had a really good ending, and as short as Death Valley was, it was really as intriguing as a four episode season could be, and was better than any of the first season episodes of American Horror Stories, except for Farel, that was a good episode. Freak Show at the time of its released was one of the most loved seasons due to it being the first season to be truly weird, not to mention it was the first season that they became truly creative with the opening sequences. Freak Show, Cult, and 1984 have the coolest opening sequences. Cult was also as amazing as it was terrifying. It was a very serious subject to tackle at the time, and it is one that took the biggest toll on Evan Peters' mental health in his career, even more so than Dahmer. He said all the screaming really got to him. And lastly.. how is Apocalypse so high up? You had to see season one, three and five just to understand it.. and the recycling of the actors, especially Even Peter's, was truly awful. There are maybe 3 or 4 good episodes, with Return to Murder House, while still being a fun episode, was highly overrated. The whole Moira's remains being put to rest freeing her from the house made no sense at all. And neither did the young guy and girl having the antichrist as the baby near the end. They said from the very first season.. the copulation between a spirit and a living person brings the end of times. That's the only reason Michael Langdon even came to exist. The season is just riddled with plot holes, something that American Horror Story has been famous for closing up their stories in a wonderful way, it just seemed so lazy. Now, Cult I love. Evan Peters mastered every character he played in Cult from Kai Anderson to Jim Jones to Jesus Christ. It is probably the most underrated season in my opinion along with Freak Show and Double Feature.

Red Tide was amazing. It was honestly six of my favorite episodes of AHS ever. It’s also crazy that some peoples least favorite season is others favorite. Just shows how unique each season is. 1984 was by far my favorite season (other than the first three), but some people have it at the bottom in some rankings. Whereas I didn’t like Freakshow (clowns creep my out and I’m not into musicals), but others love it.

Apocalypse was garbage, it had its own great unique story and premise set up in episode 1 and it threw it all away to be Coven 2 out of nowhere. It being anywhere higher than 9th is so wrong

Jessica Lange seasons are the best ones 👑 💯 And Freakshow is too low on this list. I mean c'mon, it gave us J. Lange singing Lana Del Rey & David Bowie, one of the best things that ever happened in AHS history. I agree with #1 tho, Asylum will always be the best season.
