The Ned Rig is a much more versatile lure and presentation than we often think. Learning how to use this lure in places we normally wouldn't, will take your Ned Rig fishing to another level.

I've gotten to where I'm learning to trust a ned rig in thick vegetation and get confident with it. It's a learning curve and I'm having to adjust how I fish it, but I feel like I'm improving every time I go out and try it!

Hey Steve, love the channel and all the great content. Found the weights but, I’m trying to figure out your set up based on the video. Does the EWG have a welded hook or a split ring? Saw a barrel swivel too. Any insight you can provide is much appreciated!
@SteveRogersOutdoors

It is the Varivas Rock On hooks. The weight snaps over the ring for a quick setup.

Awesome stuff as always Steve! I’ve gone to using a weedless EWG Ned head in typical river smallie fishing, and a modified Free Rig in really nasty stuff or for more finicky fish. A ZMan TRD or ZMan tube on a #2 Gammy EWG hook will float up the bottom on the free rig. And if you slide the sinker stop up, you can maintain the separation of the bait and weight. Keep up the great work! Ken from Naperthrill 👍

@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors 8 ай бұрын
Great question. That often happens when reeling the lure back at the end of the cast. If the bait isn’t straight this will cause it to roll, if it still rolls when it looks pretty straight I just put a small swivel between my mainline and the leader.
@mysteryman5213
@mysteryman5213 8 ай бұрын
Add another level of respect . I appreciate the reply Steve. I suspected the alignment to be the issue and tried my best to ensure it is straight. I guess my vision isn't too reliable. lol I'll resort to using the swivel going forward. Thanks. @@SteveRogersOutdoors

I had a 30 gal tropical fish tank that I put a few crawdads in. They became the apex predator in the absence of anything hunting them. They would regularly climb high into the plastic weeds and "graze" like ticks do. They just held with their big claws open, waving around and grabbed anything dumb enough to get close, they wiped out everything after a while. But It got me to rigging realistic looking ones with big eagle claw weedless hooks and spot fish them of the bottom just like the Minnesota worm guys you describe. I got to dig some out and Ned rig some to go deeper, maybe inject some air in the tails for flotation if have no 3X.

Steve if i may, I generally do not like to comment in this fashion, after watching a great lesson. I have fished with many people and they always laugh at me or scold me for using light line in bushes or lay-downs. In fairness anything can happen. But i tell them, generally if dont horse a 5lbs bass they generally come out of cover on their own heading to deeper water. Ive seen this first hand hundreds of times, just keep pressure on them they dart away from cover into deep. Despite living on lake as kid, no boat, I was forced to put bait in tough spots, use my rod and pressure to turn fish, but im not the excitement or panic type , can you confirm ?
@SteveRogersOutdoors
@SteveRogersOutdoors 6 ай бұрын
I have definitely found that if I just maintain pressure the bass will often slip to deeper water like you said. These extremely sharp hooks these days have changed the way I set the hook for a lot of presentations. And some of these fluoro lines are so tough I don't mind putting lighter lines into some places I never would of before. I still retie often but some of the situations I have brought fish out of and there aren't any noticeable nicks on the line is impressive.

Great question. There are starting to be some out there that have wire tied skirts. That makes such a big difference for the longevity of the lure. So I always look for that feature. Naturally, I use a lot Strike Tour Grade but I also really like the Booyah. But for me, it is the wire tie and then looking for the smallest diameter wire for the blade to head attachment I can find.
