I hated jigs for a long time, but now they are one of my go to baits when I am fishing lay downs and docks. I forced myself to learn how to fish them and I have had pretty good success. I now own 4 boxes of jigs and I make my own as well. The 5 points you discussed in this video are spot on. I also had a really good friend that taught me how to use them properly. Thanks for the great video Steve.

It is amazing what a learning curve these lures have. It also took me a long time to get them figured out.

I spent an entire season, like u did with a jig, when i was shore fishing, and now it is always on my boat deck and its my go to confidence bait

I've went so far down the jig hole this year I'm tying and pouring my own jigs😂😂😂 I will say it's helped me in confidence alone just to have the colors I want for the waters I fish. So many times I look through the jigs saying I wish they had this color or that color. Not anymore, I just tie on the color I want and bamo bingo im catching fish on my jigs. Even if you don't pour your own, start tying your own skirts. Builds unbelievable confidence

That is really awesome! That is something I have wanted to do and just haven't taken the time to do it yet. You have inspired me!

I suck at jig fishing... Time to just go fishing with jigs only for awhile. Great video! I need to remember that they can be fished throughout the water column.

Good luck! You’ll get it. It took me a long time to get them figured out. Let me know when you catch a big with one!

I NEED this video. I Battle with my jigs. Will follow your advice for sure, Steve.

Good luck! It took me a full season of using a jig almost exclusively to really get confident with one. Then it became a confidence lure. Those first bites are important for trusting it.

You had me at jigs! Those 5 points are spot on! To me, there is nothing better than a good jig bite! And right now that bite is really turning on. The old football jig did good work just yesterday and the wife and I are leaving to spend another week at the private trophy bass lake. You know jigs will be a go-to presentation!

Can’t wait to see that footage! I remember when jig fishing finally clicked for. Thanks goodness because it took awhile. Good luck on your trip!

the choice of trailer type is linked with water temperature: early season, cold water, you want LESS action on the trailer....very warm water, big flapping appendages will work better. Same can be said for fall rate: definitely faster in warmer water: in the middle of summer when the waters are above 80 degrees, sometimes you need a one ounce weight to get that thing down through vegetative cover quickly....

Great, great tips! Thank you. What are your thoughts on living rubber vs silicone skirts? Thanks, Steve.
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I use silicone most of the time now, but the living rubber is very good and definitely need to use them more than I do.

Have u ever tried a skirted wacky? I like the flare that it gives, i use 1/8 only.

Chartreuse pepper trailer is interesting. Im guilty of using natural colors across the board to a fault

You said set the jig hook horizontally, did you mean half vertically and half horizontally ? I thought treble hooks were set horizontally and single hooks vertically.
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That is an excellent question I should have gone more in-depth on. I like to side sweep when dragging jigs at a long distance, therefore the horizontal hookset is a good way to go, like a Carolina rig. If anglers prefer to drag a jig with a vertical lift of the rod then definitely a vertical hookset it preferred. Thanks for asking this!

I going to say this knowing it has nothing to do with jigs. Been using Lews reels for a very long time. So I know the difference between now(Strike King owned) and before Strike King owned them. Lews now has the absolute worst customer service that I have ever seen. PERIOD!
