I have just pulled my Bolero carrots that I planted the first week of September. They did really well for me. I planted pelleted. If I plant regular seeds they always end up over seeded. When I do that I will check them often and when I find some small carrots I will pull them and use them for meals. By doing that I am thinning them and that eventually thins them down enough, what is left can get to full size. I only planted one row and I ended up with 12lbs of carrots. I was pretty happy with that. I live in North Florida, so I can vegetables year round. So far I have only had two broccoli plants bolt, and I am going to get the seeds from them. One thing I can not seem to get to grow is Cauliflower. I know it is my timing, but I have not been successful with it at all.

Loved Your ‘moment of silence’ for the collards as you cut their stalks! On the other side of the state, we’ve had a curly kale, can’t remember the variety, span two falls snd winters without bolting in the summer between them. Since they were potted, we did put them in a slightly ‘cooler’ micro climate area of the yard that summer and were shocked they didn’t bolt! Our small bok choy this year was beautiful, but first ‘false spring’ temps sent them the wrong message . Had to quickly harvest them and tried freezing a free veil see how they do. Carrots. Well… I did same thing you did # wise compared to container. Had beautiful green tops all winter! Just harvest them all! FYI, grated, they dehydrate well for using reconstituted on muffins and cake!!

I get 5 to 6 foot curly kale plants all the time that have never gone to seed. They're 2 years old or more. They do get top heavy so I usually just cut a couple feet off the top and they'll send out side shoots and keep going. Weather helps with mild winters here in zone 10a SoCal

I have about 6-8 collard plants that just had their first birthday early this month! Their greens have been super tasty and I’ve had lots of harvest from them so no complaints. They’re in my GreenStalk though so the taller they get the more difficult it is to turn my planter around because they bump into the planter next to it lol! 😂I hope they go to seed though because I’d love to get seed for these to save. I’ve planted more though for another spot in my garden to see how well they do in a different planting location. I’m kinda hooked on these greens now with lots of bacon and Cajun seasoning and I can them up into pint jars. When I’m ready to eat them I mix them 1:2 with pints of blackeyed peas or pinkeye purple hulls. Soooo good! 👍🏻 Idk why I didn’t try this combo sooner. Now I also fill my freezer with these greens too. I have a goal of growing a years worth of the collards for the freezer/canner. I’m also doing the same with beans this year. Wish me luck!

One collard we have is situated at an area where it gets shade for a few hours per day. It is holding up better than the full sun plants since 2022 spring time. It will be interesting to see how long it holds up. I did remove some branches and a small starting bundle that could have formed a flowering bud. We’ll see.

u need to learn lacto fermenting for ur carrots, kale & cabbage. Its a great way to do long term storage with them & i think they taste great in all kinds of dishes with rice, or pasta or potatoes. I lacto ferment all kinds of vegies, i even do cirtrus & it makes great probiotic foods that keep a long time. I put all kinds of different seasoning in my lacto ferment jars, whatever i like garlic, thyme, oregano, chili flakes etc etc. I like lacto fermenting better than i like water bath canning.
