1 station closed on the Franklin Shuttle was Dean St. It was closed in 1995 due to budget cuts and the fact that people were jumping over the turnstiles at this station.

Shuttles were often remnants of main lines that were rerouted.

The Franklin Ave. shuttle was the best known of them. Before 1920 it was in fact part of the main route from lower Manhattan to Brighton Beach. The subway connection from DeKalb Ave. was being built when the Malbone St. wreck occurred in 1918. In 1958 a switch was installed allowing the shuttle trains to bypass the tunnel section where the wreck occurred allowing trains to enter the northbound platform at Prospect Park and not have to relay on the express tracks south of the station.

Like I once wrote to a KZbin fan's comment, the BMT-IND subway cars cannot run on IRT tracks, because the width of the BMT and IND trains is wider than that of the IRT trains. However, IRT trains could also run on BMT and IND tracks. I am surprised to learn that there were some shuttle on the BMT lines in Brooklyn and Queens, besides the Franklin Shuttle and the Culver Shuttle. Does TrainRider Railfan mean that there is a Part 2 after this topic? Well, I am surprised. This more likely would get better than Part 1.

um BMT/IND trains CAN run on IRT tracks. they’re both the same gauge but they can’t run inside IRT tunnels because they’re too small.

They also can’t run through IRT stations because of the platform width. It’s impossible for B division cars to get much of anywhere on IRT trackage.
