You are using the wrong tool to measure lash. You can't use a regular dial indicator because you can't put it against the tooth, it's way too big. You need a test indicator and the correct angle in between the teeth.

Nice video Nathan, what a great engine & a massive job....might i suggest that that big long extension won't give u the correct torque, torque it with no extension for the correct torque, if clearance is insufficient for a short socket then use a deep socket, also i would suggest that not only the lub goes on the threads but also under the head of the bolt(provided that BMWs spec is for a lubbed torque & not a dry torque-lubbed torque will always go tighter than a dry torque)but i image u are all over that & it is a lubbed torque...good luck with your build.

Believe it or not you don’t lose much if any with an extension, however a swivel is a definite killer, or an adapter.

e46 with an m43 is pretty reliable and cheap. Weak spots are rust, some bushes that repeatedly fail and normal stuff.
