The ending of Better Call Sau felt so... significant. The entire empire of Walter White's falling apart and fates of characters shown. Somebody's killed, somebody's in jail, somebody's on the loose. BCS ending was dumb dumb dumb. Saul ranting about “Walter White’s Drug Empire” when it was just simply Walt cooking for Declan and getting paid. Also Jimmy said he made millions laundering Walt’s money but that also wasn’t true as Walt had bought the car wash and Skyler was hiding the excess in the storage unit. Ending of BCS had bizarre retcons.

Great summation. Its been a year since BCS ended. I can honestly say now that I have never had a show's ending affect me like BCS's did. The end of BB left me physically exhausted. When Kim walked out of the prison in BCS, I was emotionally crushed. I didn't realize how much I was caught up in their universe in general, and Jimmy and Kim's story in particular. I agree with your statement at the end on which order to watch the shows. When BB was made, they didn't even think of making BCS so the worldbuilding, the context, the implications of their actions were done episode by episode. BCS greatly expands the established characters, recontextualizing them and giving the audience a brand new perspective. However, watching BCS first really drives home how much of a force Walt was that he managed to tear down 6 years worth of buildup in just a year and a half. But then again, BCS was made with the understanding that people have already watched BB beforehand so characters, their introductions and their motives might feel out of place for new viewers

Haha, awesome! I’m still a little confused why Walt yells at Saul to “speak up” toward the beginning of that scene. It feels kind of random, and I don’t know if there’s some reason for it that I’m missing.
@blokvader8283 Жыл бұрын
@betterwatchtv Honestly, you can't really tell with Walter, but I'm assuming it's just supposed to show the difference between the two Saul is clearly unhappy with everything and this entire identity change isn't even something he wants to do, while Walter is blindly trying to get through things without any care for other people Basically, Walt's just a dick and he'll take any excuse to be mean to anyone lmao
@betterwatchtv Жыл бұрын
That's fair!
@alexor081 Жыл бұрын
@@betterwatchtvThe "speak up" is an old, popular, universal, manipulative technique for intimidating someone. Basically, Walter didn't want to talk to him and Saul starts the conversation with reluctance and hesitation. He pretended he didn't hear him because some people, when they say that, they realize the chasm between them and usually reply with "Forget it. It was nothing". BB broken down Saul would do that, but BCS Saul with the weight of Jimmy Magill on his shoulders continues. Just like a young person during an interview or a large group. In the midst of the conversation, "Speak up/ Repeat yourself. We can't hear you." Oftentimes, the receiver gets discouraged by that and everyone could see it. Besides, Walter was a typical strict teacher, so, he always knew how to be authoritative or "bully" others. Simple but effective.
@GamingEelektross Жыл бұрын
I personally also like to use that scene with Saul and Walter (and the ending of BCS) as the way to properly frame how Saul saw Walter the entire time. Walter's always thinking he's the big stuff while being surprisingly vulnerable without Saul bailing him out in many cases. Despite all Saul did, Walter always had a low opinion of him, given the "So you were always like this" comment. Walter only saw Saul as a useful idiot that his ego needed him to be, and Saul saw Walter as another Chuck, only with all the qualities of a self-serving egomaniac and none of the endearing traits that Jimmy and Chuck had, but ultimately tried to bury.

I'm pretty sure the major character whose death is their last scene in the timeline is Nacho because he's not in breaking bad or el camino.

Yep (and that scene happened after BB & EC in the real-world timeline that I’m using here)!

Francesca’s last scene was on Better Call Saul when she was on the pay phone talking with Saul 😮

That's her final in-universe scene (shown in kzbin.info/www/bejne/roiQanyOpc96qLs) but that was actually one episode earlier than the scene I show in this video!

11:28 actually, the last time we see Francesca is when Gene calls her and she takes the hidden money and tells him the news of Albuquerque, who and what happened to all the people he knew
@betterwatchtv Жыл бұрын
I had also thought that, but that’s only for the “in-universe timeline.” In our timeline (episode release date), that actually happens in episode 11 (Breaking Bad) vs. this scene in episode 12!

i have watched the entire universe in the release order (multiple times) and most recently watched it in timeline order. both have positives and negatives. i feel there's no wrong way to watch it, but watching it in release order probably makes the most sense.

Ngl, it'd be pretty cool if at some point you did the opposite of these two videos with every character's "First Scene" and every characters "Introduction" in the Breaking Bad universe
@betterwatchtv3 ай бұрын
I do have it on my list do to "first scene" one day! Now "Introduction..." that's an interesting thought. I wonder if it would be too similar, but certainly we do have differences for Walt, Skyler, Gretchen, Gus, Hector, ... Something to think about! Thanks!

I think since Walter's story was already concluded perfectly in BB. The writers decided to use his last scenes in BCS to cater towards Saul's own conclusion

I was trying to draw the line somewhere, so Nick was never going to make the cut! But yeah, maybe I should have included Victor, Tyrus, Lawson, Ira, Erin, and Irene (plus Jack, Andrea, and Kuby). I almost included Paige, but her last scene was pretty uneventful.

ReWatched Breaking Bad for umpteenth time then watched Better call Saul for 2nd time. Saul was a must better watch with Breaking Bad fresh in my memory. These 2 shows hav the best character development of any show I’ve ever seen on TV. The way the writers answered questions about how these characters got to where they were in Breaking was brilliant. Even characters like Crazy 8. For some reason this character intrigued me. Seemed like a good dude deep down. It explains why (when Hank & Steve find 8’s car) they assume somebody “croaked they’re snitch”. Brilliant
