interestingly in ch. 4. if you listened very carefully in the og when Doopliss transforms into Shadow Mario, you will very clearly hear a "Mario "whoa!"" surprise noise, which's not there in the remake, alongside a "Wawawawawa+Mario hp reaches 0 noise" when Doopliss knocks him out in the original 🤔in the remake its all completely silent, and Shadow Mario himself's completely silent too, whereas in the og he still had his voice/noises. also another major diff is Doopliss in the Remake has 2 extra lines, 1 during the 1st forced encounter where he says "you aren't thinking about running are you?"(not present in the original, you only had the "NO RUNNING!" line+both sides taking 0 damage to go off of.) and in the final fight vs him where he reacts to the 1st damage taken, he has a line for taking that 1st instance of damage, which the og doesn't have. another neat difference is Doopliss actually has and uses a Life Shroom if and only if, you manage to one shot him in the final fight in ch 4. the remake before Vivian joins turn 2. this's likely as a fail-safe to stop from skipping the Vivian cutscene, but a very neat detail. the ch. 4 lore is also fixed in the remake, so Doopliss can hurt Mario in the forced encounters, but Mario can't hurt Doopliss, while in the og both sides can't take damage-

A few other things that I noticed that weren't brought up in the video: -You can hit NPCs with the hammer and they react to it now. BEST FEATURE HOLY SHIT. -Running away no longer costs money -The fast travel warp system is SO much better than the original -The tutorial NPC toad exists (and he has a tattle log for his tutorials that were, I kid you not, the last thing I had to tattle) -Tattle logs in the journal are very abbreviated compared to the Gamecube, and there are multiple tattle logs for bosses that occur at different points. (I.E. There are two tattle logs for Bowser, Bedlam, Marilyn, Doo_lss, and the Shadow Queen) -NPC in trouble center who is willing to give you hints for the non-straightforward troubles -A lot of the music got remixed beyond a simple remaster for existing music. For example, instead of the three dragons all having the same theme, Gloomtail has a more 'metal' version of Hooktail's theme and Bonetail has a version mixed with the instrumentation and vocals from the Shadow Queen fight. -2 new superbosses, one of which can be unlocked before starting Chapter 4. -The Crystal Stars look kinda ass compared to the Gamecube version. There are other changes in later chapters, but those are the big ones I noticed up until chapter 4

It's been about 10 years since my last play-through of the original, but I noticed in the Switch version when you hit the action command for a block your characters actually react with a defensive position every time. That "felt" new because my memory seems to be that the original didn't actually have the characters react to the button at all unless the action command was timed successfully. I may just be thinking of Paper Mario 64 (I played it with a fan-made HD texture pack before starting the TTYD remake), but it is an appreciated touch since you get a better feel for blocking (sometimes). On a related note, I'm glad there's an explanation for why my action command timing was off in the remake, I thought I was just getting old. I was 99% accurate on the original and felt like I might have brain damage for the first several hours on the Switch. I was halfway through the game before my brain successfully reprogrammed where I could consistently get a STYLISH after an attack, much less a double.

Gonna guess the retranslation from loons to bozos was because loon could possibly be interpreted as mocking of people with mental disorders. Loon or loony was originally shorter, more insulting way of calling somebody a lunatic, and got its start as an insult during a time when mental health problems were generally considered a joke. Now that society has largely moved past that point, changing it to bozos avoids any potential backlash while still being a suitable insult for the scene.

You can actually get to the new warp pipe room before getting Flurrie, you just need to get the contact lens for Zess T. once its ready then activate Paper Mode and go down the drain in West Rougeport, take the pipe that goes down again, then go into Paper Mode to get through the fence near the pipe and you can get on the right side of the big block and have access to the warp pipe room.

I’m in The Palace of Shadows & I gotta say I’ve been very pleased with the remake; I’ve played the GameCube version 5x over the past decade & the remake had tons of quality of life improvements, & the textures were perfect. The only issue I had was with the moon base; it lagged quite a bit, though this is very minor. I also installed the 2k/4k resolution mod, 60fps mod, & improved detail mod + a cheat that allows you to actually skip though text since the remake doesn’t allow you to skip text like the original without the cheat. The amazing remake + those aesthetic/QoL mods combined led to an absolutely incredible & smooth experience that I feel like I’ll want to play all over again immediately after I finish my current playthrough.

I heard the frog-cricket change was due to the translators not thinking the noise sounded froggy enough, but now with clearer audio it does

Another change I saw someone else crunch the numbers on is Power Bounce is significantly harder to cheese in the remake, normally PB has an incrementally smaller frame window for the action command in both versions but in the remake the fourth hit is cut to a single frame input before returning to normal for every hit after.
@chriskoloski325 ай бұрын
I will say. Learning about the whole partner upgrade stockpiling really helped me get through a lot of battles. Even one of the secret new bosses i basically beat in two turns because of a super guard. And there i was playing ttyd in the past like a normal person trying to fight fairly
@possumorb37705 ай бұрын
Regarding the SuperBounce, there's nothing wrong with it on the surface... *Until you realize that the fourth input, and **_ONLY_** the fourth input, is a mere 1-frame window...*

The warp pipes to previous areas have all also been updated for ease of use. Also, you no longer can shake bushes and instead have to hammer them.

The reason it's blocked at 4:00 is because there's a glitch in the original that allows you to get to the Pit of 100 Trials early using some frame perfect stuff

Yeah, I thought I was going insane when I kept messing up my power bounces in the remake. It makes sense that the timing is slightly different.

Here's another difference. In the original, the three sisters were called The Three Shadow Sirens. In the remake, they were called The Three Shadows.

An audio change that I noticed was during the hook tail bossfight. When answering hooktails questions In the game cube version, you can hear mario voicing nuh uh in his mario way lol while shaking his head In the switch version he simply shakes his head with his audio removed when turning down hooktails offers.

This video is dope! I have noticed mostly positive changes in my playthrough, but the coin thing was something I was kinda skeptical about. It isn't quite the same level of ridiculous as Origami King, but it definitely feels like a bit too much excess to the point where I never really have to worry about it.
@ShirkerzАй бұрын
7:00 they also did this with General White in the shadow queen scene when he says, "Da" (meaning "okay" in Russian)... he now just says, "ok".... its so insignificant of a problem but i really liked that line of dialogue from him as it adds to his character and I'm upset that its gone. hopefully someone makes a patch with the yuzu emulator to add in previous lines

I miss the audience booing or cheering you on in the original, it made you feel more immersed into the battles.

9:31 you actually missed a small change. In the original, after koops' dad comes back, he mentions that he simply "fell for a trick". In the remake specifically, he mentions that "she used the smell of her feet". Weird change ngl

The remake was seriously everything I hoped it could have been. I mean, I would have loved to see something like the cameos of the rest of the PM64 partners restored, but still. The game was everything I hoped it would be. I love all the new animations, the visuals look great, the game runs smoothly, the music additions are nice, and the QoL improvements are pretty helpful.
