Same experience for me in a way, I remember thinking wtf when I got to the end of the show way back in the day, but since rewatching and making this video I've got a whole new level of respect for it. I heard differing views about LOST. I was curious to see it, and at the same time, I wasn't going to 'pay' either for a boxed-set, or streaming service. This one video has answered a lot of questions for me. I could see how it might have been entertaining, but at the same time, there is just too much 'twilight zone' stuff going on. 'Time travel', 'parallel dimension', a 'love triangle' that seems to turn into a 'love trapazoid', the 'dream sequences', etc... and normally, any of these things could do well with a story. But HOOO-LEEEE KRAP, I could barely keep up with who was coming and going, and I'm only 4 hours in... I can see how and why it didn't get great reviews, but I can see decent actors, doing a really great job. But there is just way too much wackiness for anyone to truly tune in week after week, year after year, and have it rooted in anything loosely based on reality. Thanks for creating and compiling the video, how you were able to keep it all straight is a conquest that you've clearly won.

It's one of those shows that a recap can't really do justice, unless you basically show everything that happens which would be frowned upon by copyright fair use guidelines. I tried my best to make it all make sense but of course there are still some questions people might have about it, which I hope will inspire some people to watch it themselves. I would say the first watch-through is confusing, the second watch less-so and by the third watch you have that realisation of how it does actually all tie together....mostly.

@@Howesenberg I'm going to say you did an awesome job, for the amount of material, characters, arcs, and everything in-between. No complaints at all. In fact, to keep it all straight, and entertaining is quite commendable. I didn't really have a chance to watch Lost, when it came out. (It actually happens with a lot of shows). So until I saw this vid, I knew some really basic stuff, "airplane crash - forest monster - people dying - people coming back (from being dead)" You did an excellent job of encapsulating the narrative. Sadly, based off of what I 'knew' it just didn't seem like something I'd really get into. Let me compare this with the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, as an example. I grew up with BSG in the 70s and 80s. I liked the idea of 'robot enemies', and the refugees traveling to an unknown point of origin. But when I heard the reboot did away with the 'robots' making them 'look human', and doing some 'gender-swapping' or 'race-swapping' it all felt a little too PC for me. I kept hearing 'good reviews', and knowing how much I enjoyed it as a kid, I finally broke down and bought the boxed set. I didn't immediately like what I saw, but the actors were great, and by the time I was done, I was very impressed. Another example, is The Walking Dead. I hate zombies, the premise is stupid, 'dead people climbing out of their graves to walk around hunting living people to feed upon'... But, a co-worker told me, "it's less about the dead-people, and more about the living people who are trying to 'get by'" I think it was around season 3, when I was convinced to 'give it a try' the season 1 set was about 25 bucks, 6 episodes... I figured a fair trade to 'see for myself'. The show only got worse with each season. Wash, rinse, repeat... Rick finds a new home, bad guys invade Rick's home, Rick finds a new home.... Instead of getting smarter (better at survival), by season 7, they still can't seem to grow food, or purify water, or set 'zombie traps'. But that didn't stop the writers from trying to make themselves 'look smart'. Just a horrible show that had a lot of potential. Who knows, there might come a time, when I am truly re-invested in giving 'Lost' a second look? What I'll say, is that your vid was great in conveying what the story was really about, without of course, breaking any copyrights, etc... There was a lot more to it, than I realized, and I'll agree, it probably does make more sense, after watching it through a few times.

I really liked this show but man the storytelling required far too much attention span for how long the seasons and episode were. Trying to pay attention during the timeskip whiplash takes a special kind of willpower

I can see that, to be honest it did take me a few re-watches and taking notes to tie everything together in a satisfying way. But yeah I can see for my audience, this show lacked a lot of appeal and that's likely a good reason for it.

What exactly is divisive about the ending? Unless you are an idiot, the ending is pretty clear and good. Having issues with potential plot holes is another thing but I just can't understand the issues with the ending (at the time and now)

I think part of the problem is that many people were mentally checked out towards the end or were struggling to remember all that came before it, giving them a different interpretation of what the end meant. Also word of mouth had a massive impact on this. I recall being told by a handful of people they didn't like the ending because 'oh they were dead the whole time' Also the end credits showing the plane crash with no people walking around, really confused people which I think is fair.
