My mother in law used to go striped fishing every summer. We used to pick up the fish heads and bones to make soup when we didn’t catch any stripers. She would always call me over when she caught them and she’d ask me how I’d like it cooked. Sometimes we’d eat it as a soup, sometimes deep fried, and even ate it as raw larb too. She passed away last year. This video reminded me of her.

I already knew what the scenario was when it had the words fisherman and nightmare in the title. At first I was thinking it would happen when you were holding the first striper and mentioned "i don't have any pliers". That's hardcore that you kept fishing with the treble in your leg. I felt that shit when you pulled it out. Glad everything turned out okay.

Taku, I met you and Jocelyn at In N Out last month and said I’d leave a comment on the next video I watched. In Colorado, we only use single hooks, mash all of our barbs, and always wear sunglasses for catch and release trout fishing. Single hooks allow you to maintain three times as much pressure than trebles on the hook point, resulting in fewer lost fish. Last year, I hooked my cousin through the lip with a Dungeon fly after hitting him in the sunglasses. The hook slid right out. On an unrelated note, I didn’t know there were striper in California. I just caught several in Delaware, where they are rare and mythical due to overfishing. Thanks for sharing with us.

Last fall I landed a 140 lb bluefin, and trying to take the hook out It swung it into my finger. My problem was that the other two hooks were still buried in the fish's jaw. The fish wasn't dead, you can imagine the situation I was in. Flopping bluefin and connected by a 6/0 4x treble, basically jumped on the fish and brained it. You're the man for pulling that hook out on your own!

A few months ago I hit Salmon Creek and right as I was setting my backpack down, on the way up I snagged my ear to my treble hook, pierced all the way through. I yanked it out, blood everywhere, went down to the surf line and splashed handfuls of water on my ear til it stopped bleeding. Fished for an hour and was done with that sh*t. At least you were catching fish! Cheers to cold waters!

Being an Australian fisherman I recommend crushing your barbs people say you lose more fish but that's a myth as long as your fishing properly and keeping constant pressure your not going to lose a fish and by crushing the barbs if you get hooked it will just pull out effortlessly
@mosshark6 ай бұрын
excellent advice for saltwater fishermen. freshwater, the hooks are smaller, I've yanked those out barb and all, with minimal blood shed.
@CLFS6 ай бұрын
@@mosshark fresh water is fine I use barbed hooks in freshwater because like you said there small. I should have specified for salt water or larger lures to crush them but that's just my personal preference there have been a few times when I was younger becoming connected with a lure what ruined a camping trip because it was to hard to get out lesson learnt and ever since crushing barbs I have been hooked 3 more times and it's been great being able to pull it out and continue the trip

First you recommend crushing the barbs and then you say if you crush the barbs the fish will pull out effortlessly. WTF? Make up your mind.
@jimmyrecard60216 ай бұрын
that's because you do lose more fish, even if you keep pressure on at all times, if they shake their head too fast they can dislodge the hook pretty easily.

You could roll that fish dish into that pasta too. Possibly add a touch of corn starch/water mix to the dish thickening it just enough to stick to the pasta as well if you didn't want to roll it. I think rolling the ingredients up with the pasta would work best. P.S. If you had a scalpel or a smaller sharp knife, you could slice your leg skin to open up or butterfly at the side of the barb on the hook allowing it come out freely without ripping/tearing the tissue. It would heal better in the long run. Ahhh...the risks of fishing in shorts vs. denim pants.
