Us older fans only had access to what came on tv, and what we could find in a local rental store or buy at a mall (never forget Suncoast video). And most of the heisei era wasn’t even available outside of grey market bootlegs until the 1998 or 1999. I was a teenager by then. And even at the time, those VHS releases were not widespread. Younger generations have had a much easier access to all of the movies. And, with the Internet, it is not just Godzilla movies they have easier access to, but all of film history. Gone are the days of watching whatever was on TV and accepting it and learning to see things you might not otherwise have seen on your own

Its really the human plots that drag the movies down. I didnt mind the human plot in 2014 because it was essentially just following one human caught in all that mess, but the other human plots just get so ridiculous imo. The kaiju are always handled with immense care, and that definitely shows.

I'm glad that Shin Godzilla gets some love here. This is truly the most terrifying version of the character, especially the implication of what could have been if he couldn't be stopped. Having seen Minus One, it's S-tier. I can't decide which one I like more, Shin or Minus One, but it doesn't matter at the end, since their completely different and for a different mood, they complement each other well.
@aruce9 Жыл бұрын
Minus one edges out shin just a tad. They are both the best Godzilla movies ever made. It’s a 9/10 vs a 10/10
@marcbraun5342 Жыл бұрын
@@aruce9 Right now it can feel that way, certainly not a whole tenth difference, just slightly higher. Minus One is very fresh right now, I would wait a bit. I think Shin has a bit more layers to it, it's also a very sad movie, just not that on the nose, the implications are creepy as hell, it's thought-provoking ect., the NGE is certainly strong in this one. So my current verdict would be my head says Shin's better and my heart says Minus One is better.

It certainly did open me up to the “legend” and I’m sure it’s gonna be the same for most. I’ve nothing but respect and admiration for the film considering the quality of filmmaking, scripting and special effects for such a tight budget and being given enough time to accomplish what it needs to do.

You need a big correction regarding the 98 Godzilla, although the movie version of the character was indeed christened by Toho as Zilla, the animated version Son of the movie monster was given the well deserved Title of GODZILLA. Toho publicly stated this, stating that the monster in Godzilla The Animated Series cartoon had all of the powers of the Original Japanese Godzilla, and earned the title to be called Godzilla and not Zilla as his movie parent. Unlike the film, the animated monster had Atomic Breath, which was green, and his Dorsal Plates would Flash Blue. Godzilla though could get hurt, he was resistant to artillery and his wounds would heal. He didn't run away, and would fight many Kaiju himself. The tone of the series was a combination of Showa and Heisei, to the point that the Monsters were real threats to humans and there were even Aliens in a story ark. Though the episodes were the whole "Monster of the Week" thing on the stories, each was serious with a hint of fun and adventure, but it also had a lot of serious emotions and danger like in the Heisei Era. The cartoon monster was also a tragic character, because though it was the last son of Zilla (whom Godzilla fights and kills again as Zilla is resurrected as a cyborg by the aliens) he was sterile, yet in an episode there was a Kaiju that was in fact the base creature of Godzilla's mutated from, clearly stated Komodo Dragon, NOT just some Lizard (a misunderstanding by the audience of the movie) because even the character of Nick mentioned on the movie that Zilla was a HYBRID mutation. This female Komodo Dragon Kaiju had laid one egg, Godzilla sensed her tracks the Kaiju and the two became a couple. The story ends in tragedy as both the egg and the kaiju die at the end by another Kaiju resembling Gamera, giving more depth to the tragedy of Godzilla. As such, you shouldn't have lumped the Movie Zilla version and the Sequel Godzilla Animated series version together because they clearly differed so much from one another. Godzilla The Animated series at the very least should had gotten a B+ in your list, especially since even original Godzilla fans and even Japanese Fans love and accept the Animated series as GODZILLA, and not Zilla.

Great Video. I've got similar viewpoints throughout, though I've never been as intrigued about the "Shin" installment. Too-much storyline with humans(or Aliens) will always dull-it.

The design is peak, and the film series has something for everyone. It starts on a serious note, then gets goofy (but does a much better job than Showa) and ends serious once again. 51:43 one thing you forgot to mention is that the parent Godzilla (aka Godzilla Earth) from the Netflix series, is by far the largest incarnation of Godzilla ever, standing at 318 meters or 1043 feet, almost three times the size of Shin. And maybe I'm misremembering, but as I recall, Godzilla Earth didn't appear until the end of the second movie. The first movie, they fought offspring Godzilla and lost, then they regrouped in the second movie, came up with a new strategy, and defeated him, only for Earth to show up upon hearing his offspring's death.

42:27 one small point I'd argue, or at least interject here, I believe the implication was supposed to be that Godzilla could sense Ghidorah reviving, that's why he only attacked the two human facilities. My understanding was that Ghidorah's head was moved from the first facility to Hong Kong, and Godzilla followed it, with a detour to fight KING Kong. I also don't think it's any coincidence that the final battle destroyed Hong Kong, given the way Hollywood kowtows to China, and Hong Kong protesting for independence from China at the time. 'Godzilla vs Kong' could have subtly referred to Hong, not King.

I think the following animated series redeemed it by being more faithful to the monster-fighting spirit of the Toho movies.
