I would say the clover is S or A tier. Those 2 extra minutes are so vital and useful. You wan't it not on every run but on every level, and you never turn it down if it's just standing there.

Finally, someone appropriately lists shotgun as being mediocre. I feel like so many average players praise it even though if they would stop using it like a crutch they would go further in their runs. The only part I disagree with is climbing gloves. Yes, they have downsides but if you get used to it they can be pretty good in this game, especially when attempting qilin skip. I'd probably give them a C or maybe nudge it into a B. They can be really helpful early in a run where your mobility is bad and it saves you ropes.

Yea, shotgun is way less exciting in 2. Bullets can reflect, it knocks you off ropes, you can shoot offscreen curse pots, etc. Plus I'm probably gonna have to toss it at some point for a CO-specific item anyways. I do like using the recoil to extend jumps sometimes, but freeze ray does that too and is way better otherwise.

It's good if you have the power pack + shotgun for improved stability and firing rate. But then you would have to give up getting a cape or jetpack.

@@igottathirdleg because: 1. it's a pack, therefore it can blow up from bullets/fire/explosions 2. it doesn't provide ANY mobility unlike other packs, and mobility is crucial in Spelunky but yeah, it does have uses and is kinda fun, so it deserves at least a C

Camera makes dark levels trivial and instagibs all undead enemies, bats and fishies. Stuns most of the rest, including ghosts. Not the best end game item and sometimes you have more important things to carry, but easy A- or B-tier at least in my book :)

I would disagree with it not being a good end game item. It's really useful in the cosmic ocean. Makes it really easy to take out mummy cats in temple levels, stun witch doctors in bad spots, set off arrow traps in both dwelling and sunken city, knock down ufos in an easily predictable way, and kill all the undead in tide pool. It's useful on every level there.

Climbing gloves are A tier. They save so many ropes before you get jetpack and give Jetpack level mobility when coupled with Vlad's.

I wouldn’t agree with gloves being d. They are powerful if you can use them, but you need to know how to use them. They change your entire run if you’re very good or very bad with them , so if you can use them well, then they are an s. Skeleton key is a c now that shop basements and attics have actual stuff

I was happy to hear you speak favorably of the freeze ray. It's my favorite item to see in a shop because then you can freeze the shopkeeper, grab everything and book it before he unfreezes. Then, since you didn't kill him, you are forgiven two levels later. Great item for us noobs because it also makes most boss fights trivial.

I think if the elixir and Vlad's cape had switched spawns the choice between the four possible paths would be way better. Also, they should buff the elixer to 16 life points or some permanent effect like higher run speed or resistance to curse and poison (maybe only once) instead of healing those effects.

The thing I love about spelunky is everyone plays so uniquely that everyone ranks items differently so no hate but these are the things I disagree with -elixir the entire point is if you’re poisoned or cursed it cures u and gives u enough health to get to duat so B tier -climbing gloves I used to fucking hate this item but because all the packs explode I was using only capes when I started learning so I got real good at climbing gloves now if I don’t get it I don’t get nearly as far S tier -spring boots are not a really a necessity but they just make movement feel so much better to me so S tier

i agree with web gun being S tier, its good for speedruns and pacific runs. 2 bad things about the web gun is that the web only lasts for 20 seconds (i think) and it counts as sin when you throw web to shopkeeper.

Uhhh XanaGear, the elixir can cure the curse status, which is the only other way than dying/ankh. Easy S Tier 🤘 EDIT: I forgot you can sacrifice to Kali for the same cure, but I'm pretty sure you stay 1 health with Kali, whereas elixir gives health in addition to the cure... At least I think so, it's been awhile since I've done it myself lol But with that in mind I'd say A tier. Mostly because if you go for the True Crown, it can be a lifesaver when it's difficult to gain enough favor points back with Kali. This game is perfect.

Cooked turkeys are normally very useful in earlier levels when health is sparse, but if you are getting royal jelly, you already have the Kapala, so health probably isn’t as urgent or hard to get

All they had to do was change the placement. Having it in Hell makes it redundant since you're almost at the end by that point. Now it guarantees solid mobility by world 2, and the boost to kapala is so good you can cheese the sun challenge with it.

I don't think this would by any means move the camera out of C, but a little-known feature of it is that it can capture scarabs, which adds them to your treasure count! it can be useful in catching them if you don't have spring boots or another upwards mobility item.

you bring clone gun and excalibur from tide pool into ice caves (hired hand will carry one prob the part you didn't get) and then find waddler and put clone gun into there and then on 7-1 you either hope sun challenge is on that floor(usually is) or have another hired hand carry clone gun through and you with hou yi's bow untill you find the sun challenge then complete it and clone the corpse bag that spawns after and contains 22 bombs and rope

I’d say jetpack is a b you can save yourself in the ice caves sure but in neo babylon which is NOT optional spark traps can appear out of nowhere you can die immediately + it feels too rare so you can’t switch it for Vlads cape if you have the Kapala it’s still a hard choice so it’s just kinda meh.... But telepack is a deserved A it teleports away before it explodes it protects you from damage by teleporting you and it kinda sucks so you want vlads cape instead it’s 7/10 brung down by telefrags
