Yup there’s a couple other people that make something similar but most imported cars from Japan have that ETC card reader that’s for tollways. And they usually just have a welcome sound but this gives you so many different options.

If you are wanting to do other mods save and do those first. I know there are few other people that make Japanese talking boxes but you’d need to track them down. I’ve come across them but don’t remember where from.

Anyone watching this in 2023, my zero cost solution has been setting up an Apple automation to play sound when carplay is connected, this way it plays through my car speakers too. I always start my car with my phone connected so its pretty much the same thing. But you will have extra latency compared to the box, but it doesn't bother me.

@@datgio4951 you can buy a similar thing from Dasai. Not as many lines but it's 20 bucks cheaper. I also heard you can plug the Dasai one to a computer and add your own sounds. Not to sure about that since I only saw it mentioned once, but might be worth looking into.

Mine isn't working correctly. It only works if the key is in the ON position. But when I start the engine, I get nothing. It's on a 350Z, getting power from the cigarette lighter. Any ideas? Video showing the problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYjOfIKPjbx0bq8

@@DanielTesenair So I moved mine and used the cigarette lighter plug under the passenger side dash and it worked fine for me. Moving it to On position it kicked on. Than I started the car and it worked as well. Have you tried moving it to a different plug like the one in between the seats?

Yeah, I've tried different cables, both plugs, I even hard wired it into a USB hub that I spliced into the power wires of my stereo, and still I have the same issue. The USB hub has a light on it that shows when it's getting power, and you can see here how the light turns on for a split second as the key goes from the on position to cranking the engine, so I wonder if that's the issue. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmbFg2WDm8uXobc

£80 dollars for a fake Japanese voice box. Just go online and buy an etc reader to have it actually sound authentic. Or buy an import that already has one in. Bought my import WRX NB-R and it had the etc reader and card
