The story of how he was cast is actually a very interesting one. He was by far the oldest person auditioning and the producers liked him but told his agent that he was too old. This was passed on to him who replied "How can the most interesting person in the world be young?" this was relayed to the producers who bought the argument and cast him. By the way if you read his biography Johnathan Goldsmith may in reality may really be the most interesting man in the world, he has lead an incredible life!
