Two things. 1. You might think that Athena being voiced by the same actress who voiced Athena in Age of mythology in this series is cool, but did you know that Zeus in this series is voiced by Corey Burton, who also did the voice of Zeus in Disneys Hercules: the animated series? 2. Thanatos gets KILLED at some point in this series?!? How is that possible? How do you kill the physical personification of death? If Thanatos is gone, how is anyone able to die afterwards?

Sounds like something out of a biblically accurate angels video. Interesting symbolism for a modern adaptation. Something doesn’t need to be a 1:1 copy to convey the same message (especially when its to a different audience). Then again this is OG God of War and the message it was conveying was generally massively different (or not depending on how you see it; Zeus’s affairs ruining everyone else’s life).

About icarus. The writers confirmed Icarus did fall to his death and wound up in Hades. However, he was able to bide his time, repair his wings, surgically graft them to his skin, and escape (yes, another hades escapee. Hades not doing his job again). However, the torment and torture he went through while being in the underworld drove him mad and he lost all his sanity. He's now seeking the sisters to prevent his death from ever happening

I imagine with the whole "Icarus" situation is that he never truly died (mentally maybe but not physically) and that led to Icarus thinking that "It must be the will of the fates" or something like that, leading him to constantly try again and again until he's an old man with little to no sanity left.

sadly not the case as that does sound like an intresting idea, the Story behind this version of icarus does infact have him die from the fall and he winds up in hades being tormented over his prideful failure which drives him mad to the point that he spends years crafting new wings (which were fused to his back ouch), and used them to escape hades and go to the fates which seriously god of war hades sucks at his job, mainly due to him wishing for them to undo his fall.

Perhaps 1 and 2 would have to go in a singular video, because 1 isn't *as* jam-packed with super many Christian mythological influences. Darksiders 2 adds more on that and throws in some other mythological influences such as the Tree of Life, the Nephilim, and Bheithir, who is apparently a kind of dragon from a very obscure... i believe Nordic piece of folklore. Darksiders 3 becomes a bit less strong in that aspect again, but Darksiders Genesis brings forth names like Moloch, Mammon and Dagon, which all were names of (demonized) deities before Christianity.

I’ve always like the thought that the sisters of fate’s island is a kind of fixed point in time so everyone who would visit the island is visiting at the same time relative to themselves. Since Kratos is apparently so angry he can’t die, why not have him be so angry he shifts fate and wrathfully spits in the face at the concept of linear time as well. This could explain why so many heroes and monsters that should t exist at the same time are all appearing in front of Kratos. That or the sisters can actively change fate on the island so they are grabbing people and changing their fate so that they will run into Kratos on their way to seek audience.
@frantisekvrana3902
@frantisekvrana3902 Жыл бұрын
That would also handily explain why the Fates can lose. If linear time doesn't exist on their island, then the whole concept of fate is broken there. Which prevents them from controlling the fate of anyone on the island. So they got themselves killed by their hubris. Theys should have stopped Kratos from reaching the island while they still controlled his fate.

I want to say that in my Greek school we were taught that the fates dont completely control a person's fate they can only give a person opportunities and it would be this person's choice on how he wants to proceed with his fate. Specifically only lahkesis would do that We were also told that the ancient Greeks didn't believe entirely in destiny but also in choices. however this was told by a single teacher out of the book so it could be wrong

I was convinced after the first two games and most of the third that Kratos was supposed to be heracles and these games were a very creative retelling of some of heracles' myths and legends, then Kratos fought heracles in the third game

Well he still kinda is. Him being tricked into killing his family by a god is note for Note Hercules Story. Then doing labour for 10 years like killing the Hydra is also straight up Hercules. Then being granted to being god after dying. Well Kratos trying to kill him self. Is still Hercules story.

@Skíðblaðnir It doesn't matter what genre it is... If it's based on greek mythology, then it should be accurate to, guess what, greek mythology. Also the books too, of course.
@aurailis

@Skíðblaðnir they're not "shutting it down" though. They're just saying that, when compared to the myths, the game is inaccurate. Obviously the game was made the way it was for a reason. You could even say that the whole "Kratos is Cratus" thing would be wrong, since they're obviously two different characters with two different names. But things like a "wild cerberus" *are* mythologically inaccurate

@Skíðblaðnir Who said that I hate anything related to mythology or anything inaccurate? Are you saying that I hate every superhero movie because they're inaccurate to the comics too? I simply just pointed out that some entertainment is inaccurate and that's okay because it's mainly to entertain, not educate. But calling it out doesn't make me 'hate' anything. Also don't slander religious people for no reason.

So there's been actors that's played Greek mythological figures only to voice them as well in GOW2. That also happens in GOW3 as well. One example being Kevin Sorbo voicing Heracles (or Hercules in game, bet you'll have fun pointing that error out) when he played Hercules in the 90s

Hello again Mythology Guy! I'm happy to see that you're doing well and that you decided to cover another installment of The God of War series! This, like your first video, was a particularly wonderful treat to enjoy since I was a fan of the series a couple of years ago! Do keep up the good work and, with your permission, I'd love to offer a few interjections of my own as well to add in with yours! Take care, and Godspeed!!!!!!! 3:51 Waaaaait, wait wait wait....Zeus could actually do that?!?!? Where the heck does it say in the myths that he acquired this ability in the first place? Does it have something to do with his position as King of The Olympians? Honestly that's just stupid, if Zeus had that power than certainly other Goddesses and Gods should have been able to use it, too! 14:18 Nothing really new to add here on my part other that sort of like last time, the oldest myths from what I remember say that Euryale, alongside her sisters, were already monsters in their own right in Greece. The idea that the sisters were cursed by Athena actually comes from The Roman interpretation of their myths and honestly, The Gorgons have been depicted with quite a wide variety of traits from what I've read on the subject! 16:00 According to the lore I read that was composed for God of War, The Myth of Daedalus and Icarus did indeed occur just like in the original myth, but Icarus here simply kept his wings after he fell into The Underworld and has since been trying to climb his way back out in order to seek The Sisters of Fate to change his past so his accident never occurred! Hee hee, security in The Underworld has been rather lacking in this series! XD 17:02 Honestly, my only guess for this part is that this aspect of The Titans was implemented for the purpose of censorship (Which is fine by me personally). That may seem rather weird, considering that there are plenty of other moments where things aren't censored, but I guess that showing genitalia was considered to be a step too far! XD 17:13 Indeed, Hades' Bident is instead replaced here by a pair of chained hooks that are referred to as The Claws of Hades, which can actually be obtained and used in God of War III, if you ever decide to make another episode! Are they mythologically inaccurate? Yes they are, but hey you know what, they are really awesome either way and they are also my personal favorite weapons across this series, especially since Hades, alongside Persephone, are some of my favorite Greek Gods! Actually I simply just enjoy most of The Chthonic Pantheon in general honestly, I really couldn't care less for most of The Olympians save for Demeter and Hestia.
