Welcome to ScreenCrush, I’m Ryan Arey. And Marvel Studios San Diego Comic Con 2022 panel revealed A LOT.
We got our first trailer for Wakanda Forever and the introduction of Namor the Sub-Mariner.
A new trailer for SheHulk featuring fellow lawyer slash crime fighter, Daredevil.
And the full slate for Phase 5 of the MCU. Featuring new shows and movies such as Captain America: New World Order, Daredevil: Born Again, and the long anticipated Thunderbolts. [clip, Peter’s head explodes]
And as if that wasn’t enough-we got the announcement of not one, but two new Avengers films releasing a mere six months apart in Phase 6. [clip, quadruple Peter’s head explodes.]
In this video we’re going to break down every show and movie that was announced at the Hall H Panel for Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU-which we now know as (pause) The Multiverse Saga. [clip]
First up, Antman and the Wasp Quantumania, coming February 17th, 2023. This is the third installment of the Antman series and it will be the theatrical debut of Kang the Conqueror. [clip]
Footage from the film showed Scott Lang and Kang having a conversation. Scott tells Kang that he’s an Avenger, to which Kang responds, “you’re an Avenger? - Have I killed you before?” [clip]
We also got a look MODOK [clip]
And Bill Muray seems to be playing someone Hope Vandyne met during her many years in the quantum realm. [clip]
We think Antman Quantumania will no doubt be giving us a deeper understanding of how the Quantum realm works-along with its connection to the multiverse. [clip]
Next up, Secret Invasion. Coming to Disney Plus Spring 2023. Not much was revealed about the show, but we did get some footage of Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury. Along with confirmation that Don Cheadle will be appearing as War Machine. [clip, boom you looking for this?]
It’s also been confirmed that part of this series takes place during the blip. And during those five years is when the secret invasion took place. Likely meaning that the Skrull’s are imitating people who blipped away.
So when those people blipped back after Hulk’s snap, there would now be two versions of them walking around. It’s giving me real Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes. [clip]
Remember, just because the Skrulls we’ve met so far have all been nice, doesn’t mean they’re all good. [clip]
Next, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, coming to theaters May 25th, 2023. [clip, Starlord “buh buh buh buh booya!”]
We got our first look at Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, a character fans have been clambering for for years. After he was teased in the post credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 [clip]
Fans hoped that meant he would be in Avengers infinity War, considering how big of a role he played in the Infinity War comic.
We also got confirmation that Chukwudi Iwuji will be appearing as the High Evolutionary. [clip, Peacemaker dance.]
The High Evolutionary is a man by the name of Herbert Windem. He’s obsessed with evolution and has made it his life mission to advance life perfection. [clip]
We recently did a video theorizing that the High Evolutionary would be appearing in Guardians 3. And that it would be revealed that he played a major role in the creation of Rocket Racoon. [clip. Rocket’s scars.]
Footage shown at the panel featured a shot of a baby Rocket Racoon with a large hand reaching for him. Likely the hand of the High Evolutionary.
Guardians 3 will give us the long awaited origin story to Rocket Racoon that they’ve teased in volumes 1 and 2. [clip, Rocket “I didn’t ask to be made!”]

Yes its setting up a ton of storyline for phase 5 and 6 but the way phase 4 was structured it felt all over the place with no clear goal. People were saying oh its build up, yes it is but even phase 1 when building everything eventually ended with the first avengers movie. Phase 4 doesn't have that one connection piece so everything feels all over the place with like no payoff

I am very excited and I loved your breakdown with a few notes: The movie in between Avengers 5 & 6 on the timeline, which isn't confirmed by Marvel yet is heavily rumored to be Spiderman 4.. Which almost makes me 100% certain esp. that close to Secret Wars that Spiderman 4 will be an adaptation of the Venom suit in the MCU I also loved your idea that the Fox X-Men characters would show up during Secret Wars - I've been kinda thinking to myself "They're gonna do Secret Wars? Which universe is gonna be the 'Ultimate Universe'?" and it would be kinda cool if the Fox universe took the place of the Ultimate Universe - and the last FINAL incursion to overcome was just this nonstop cameo-fest of Avengers vs. Fox X-Men Note that I said Fox X-Men because I heard recently that the X-Men in the MCU are rumored for early phase 7 and they WON'T be part of Secret Wars.. so that fits in with my theory - sneak the Fox X--men into the movie - RIGHT after they've "killed" the Fox versions of the X-Men and get Battleworld fixed they return to the MCU status quo.. BUT we're introduced to the MCU X-Men

Always great productions! So informative! Thank you! THinking about Doctor Strange III... maybe a Phase Six film preceding the AVENGERS duo. One of the most important DOCTOR STRANGE stories -- and DOCTOR DOOM stories -- is TRIUMPH AND TORMENT. I could see that being combined with certain Clea arcs and the TIME RUNS OUT story in which Strange discovers that the true cause of the entire Multiverse collapsing in cascading incursions was the mysterious "Rabum Alal" aka DOCTOR DOOM. I see Doom slaying Kang either at the end of KANG DYNASTY or the beginning of SECRET WARS. SECRET WARS, either comic series, could NEVER be adapted by a single movie. BATTLE WORLD or "THE ETERNITY SAGA" (Phases 7,8, and 9??) may prove to be all God-Emperor Doom's re-making of reality. Doom is not just the main villain of Fantastic Four... he is the GOAT, the poster villain of all Marvel comics. Feige is wise to delay his entry. There is no better menace after Doom. Two of Doom's many inventions need mentioning and make sense given what has been laid out for THE MULTIVERSE SAGA. First, his greatest invention is the Space-Time Platform. We've been seeing it since LOKI season one. It is the basis for the TVA's tech and transportation system. Kang--Nathaniel Richards of the 31st century--did not invent that. He DISCOVERED it! ANd used it. Think about that and you'll understand what kind of polymath Doom is. As seen first back in FANTASTIC FOUR VOL. ONE ISSUE NO. 5 (1961) by Lee and Kirby, Doom created a far more elegant way of multiversal transport and time travel than the crude measure stumbled upon by Stark and Banner depending on a greater mind, Hank Pym. And Pym, whom Wakanda's best scientists praise as producing a greater science than any their brilliance can come up with (SEE WAKANDA FILES), is a lesser mind that Doom's. We see this invention up close in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS used by Reed Richards to enter the Illuminati's chamber. Mind you, this was revealed in the audio commentary track by the screenwriter of DSITMOM, who happened to ALSO be the screenwriter of LOKI. Doom's second greatest invention is the Power Siphon. Ultimately, Doom uses variations of his designed device to draw cosmic-level superpowers away from their source (e.g., the Silver Surfer, Galactus, and even the Beyonders), and grant himself limitless energies. Doom is the greatest villain of them all. I think we will get a glimpse of him in the heartbreaking WAKANDA FOREVER.

I was thinking, the Daredevil stuff Ryan's talking about was written by Frank Miller, who wrote Sin City. Robert Rodriguez directed Sin City, & episodes of The Mandalorian & Book of Boba Fett for D+. Daredevil is going to D+, 18 episodes, RR's is almost a certain bet to direct at least 1 episode. And, TBH, i haven't seen the existing Daredevil series, but, thinking about RR directing even 1 episode got me excited for it!

Werewolf by Night is this year and I think Deadpool 3 is coming out in 2024 since theres a date reserved for Marvel Studios in February of 2024 still. Also Spiderman 4 gets its own slate from SONY so that also leaves another movie for Phase 6. If I had to replace those two it would prolly be Doctor Strange 3 and Thor 5. Also theres some shows thats been greenlit including a Wakanda Series and a spinoff from Shang Chi that will have something to do with Xialing I believe.

I think they have to introduce the young avengers pretty soon because, just being honest ,some of them will be almost 30 soon. And at that point, what makes them any younger, really than the original avengers who were mostly on their 20s ,and 30s aside from Iron man ,and war machines. So I'm guessing we're getting young avengers next year, otherwise they'll just be called the new avengers which is fine, but a but of a missed opportunity for them.

I agree. Since we're almost certainly getting Cassie as Stature/Stinger in Quantumania, Ironheart (who will probably replace Iron Lad) in BP2, and likely Teddy and Noh-Varr in Secret Invasion, we will have almost all of the Young Avengers by next year (we've already seen Patriot and Kid Loki). I think Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be the reintroduction of older Billy and Tommy, if the Chaos power surge at the end of MoM was Wanda recreating or reincarnating them, similar to the comics. Hopefully they give them a D+ series in 2024 to band together (I'll also take a movie, but a series would really flesh out their characters and dynamics even more) and then they're primed for the Avengers duology in 2025.

The projects I'm most excited for are Ant-Man 3, Guardians Vol 3, Ironheart, Avengers 5 and Avengers 6. I hope that in Avengers 5, we get every avenger possible unless some couldn't make it because they may have just gotten introduced or their story happens during Avengers 5 timeline. Those avengers can show up in Avengers 6. I also hope that they extend the final battles of both films to make it huger than Avengers 4.

This is most definitely leading to the big reboot of '26. Multiverse's colliding in a giant incursion. Other Multiverses and heroes/villains will have to sacrifice themselves so one survives. If they don't, none survive. The remaining Universe will contain a mix of existing heroes (new to the MCU such as FF, Blade, Deadpool and please lord Daredevil) and new recasts for Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, X-men etc. End reveal is a Thanos still exists in this universe and he's looking for some stones. Reboot of the Infinity Saga and we head off round the ride again.

Nah! I think the X-Men will be introduced before Avengers 5 and 6 in their own solo movies considering, that only 3 outa 11 projects from phase 6 have been announced. I don’t think that the MCU is gonna continue after Secret Wars. It’s more likely that Kevin Feige as Marvel directive to take on Star Wars.

Kinda wonder why they do the 2 Avengers movie so close together. They made us wait an entire year between Infinity War and Endgame. With Avengers 6 potentially being as big as it could be, releasing it in November seems a misstep. Something else is going on and Feige is keeping it close to the vest.

Because Secret Wars takes place directly after the ending of The Kang Dynasty. Unlike Infinity War and Endgame where it takes place 5 years after the ending of Infinity War.

I still can't see Disney updating xmen to fit into the current timeline without it being set in the past (like Magneto is important, and what he went through is also an important staple in our history). So Magneto and Xavier would either have to be pretty up there in age, or find a recent event that's more on par with the Holocaust, but idk that there's anything that's actually comparable tbh.... so it puts them in a spot that their PR team would rather dodge.... but seriously how do you make xmen today

I've been thinking they play it like this, mutations have been happening at low levels for 2000 years (assuming they leave room for Apocalypse somewhere down the line), but they're extremely rare. Xavier formed his very private school only seeking out children who he found through cerebro or something like that, but at the point of the blip, only has a very small handful of students because those are basically all the mutants that he was able to find in the whole world. Then the blip happens and with earth being the epicentre, humans are exposed to some exotic type of radiation that mutates our genes slightly, but only some people are affected and none of *them* show any changes, because typically post-birth mutations don't actually change you, BUT when those people start having children, the kids develop traditional comic book mutations, which gives Xavier tons more students, reinvigorates Magneto's hope for mutant supremacy, and creates a whole wave of anger and hysteria around mutants that's fully separate from the way average people in the MCU feel about superheroes, like in the comics With the blip already being ~5 years ago at this point, if we actually get an X-Men movie in 5-6 years, that could work for the new age of mutants to begin and those kids to start expressing their mutations, getting Xavier's attention. Then I honestly would love for them to bring in Mister Sinister as the first big villain, have him be a geneticist who offers to "fix" peoples' mutated children as this first wave of mutants are coming of age, but he's actually making clones and harvesting mutations or something And they could maybe involve Magneto in the background, or as a teaser for moving forward and he and Charles can still have pretty much the same origin, ending with Eric going into hiding some point in the past, to emerge whenever they want to use him

@@5h4rp13 that's more so how to do mutations, which I don't see them having a problem doing... So, x-men have a larger story playing the issue of 'us vs them' and making it more relevant to the reader/watcher because for Magneto he has experienced this before the world was aware of mutants, he's seen what they're capable of with hate, fear, and being different. That's why the Holocaust is such an important bit within the overall story, to remind us of the reality of what people have done, how society reacts, and most importantly, that we eventually have to stop trying to kill and exploit each other for our differences and do better as a whole, even when people prove to still be piles of shit. X-men is about mutants, but it's also about so much more ❤️

Even if they say he has a longer life span, they'll eventually have to give him a new origin

@@5h4rp13 thank you for being the first to actually answer this!❤️ It's a great solution, and a way to introduce all of the x-men characters and keeping them age accurate to the comics a bit more (I will NEVER forgive Fox for this because it wrote out great character stories or added ones that were just more puzzling and cringe for me).... but you're 100% right that they need to get on it sooner than later because then they'll really have to work at keeping some elements that make the x-men stories/series great 🤷‍♀️ I just want the writing to be better overall for this film version. Oh the writing ffs.

I cant wait for coven of chaos. Agatha is an amazing casting, and they should give Elizabeth an 8 film/show deal. She is amazing, and they need to make her the cause of “No More Mutants”, and have a spell in Coven of Chaos” be introduced, hinted at, or easter egged; then later have the quest to bring back the mutants in Deadpool 3. WHEN the Marvel intro logo rolls, a FILTHY remix by the god Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (is it?), of the 90s animated Xmen show. That’s how you make a $1,000,000,000 Kevin Feige.
