As someone who lived in London at the time, the Olympics and Paralympics themselves were great that year organisationally, the landscaping and stadiums were spectacular, even the opening ceremony was actually entertaining. The paralympics had their highest viewing figures and in-stadium audiences ever. But oh god the branding was atrocious, the logo, the mascots, even the incredibly unattractive purple and orange colour scheme they went with for all uniforms of staff and attendants.

The mess that was the London 2012 logo actually helped lower the UK's already low expectations for the Olympics. The fact that both 2012 Olympic and Paralympics were regarded as arguably the best ever, and the opening ceremony an unexpected triumph, it was almost overwhelming to our cynical British minds. Strangers even spoke to each other on public transport! What an amazing few weeks they were.

@@acat3772 I'm going to quickly try to describe how it feels, if this comes across in any way snarky or rude or condescending, please understand that I do not mean it that way, I just want to try and use a metaphor to highlight how it feels to see something like this. DISCLAIMER: I do not claim to speak for other disabled people, only myself. To start with, let's imagine a race of Giant purple aliens that possess incredible physical strength, and 8 entire arms. Now imagine all the incredible things these aliens could do with their giant bodies and many limbs, and how that may affect the way they work, play sports, and generally live their lives. Now imagine being born human sized, and only having 2 arms in this world. The first and most obvious thing here is all the things you physically cannot do that others can, this means you need a lot of help to do things that others do daily and easily. Imagine how hard it would be to feel confident in yourself compared to all these giant, impressive people who can do all these cool things so easily compared to you. Now imagine all the cool, admirable people who would appear on this worlds TV, be they sports stars, celebrities, or fictional heroes, and notice how *none* of them are like you, because they all have their 8 arms, how could you possible hope to be anything like that when you only have 2. Imagine spending years and growing up like that, with a shortage of actually relatable heroes or role models to inspire you, only reminders of what you don't have. And then you turn on the TV one day to a sports competition of the highest level, gold and world glory on the line, and the winner has 2 arms. For the first tine, you are seeing someone *like you* doing the impossible and actually being cool. Finally, for perhaps the first time in your entire life, you have what others take for granted, a hero that's actually like you. Perhaps you could do that too. Hopefully this helps you or anyone else who reads this understand things just a little better.

About The Rio's Emblem : The emblem has a heart with a certain special energy. To materialize the soul, we use universal symbols to bring people together: the spiral as an icon that translates overcoming; the infinite, which represents the energy translated into the claw; and the heart, fundamental sign, the vital center of every human being. The main message is that inside we are all the same. The emblem is very sensory and the idea is for it to be experienced, something people can interact with

I loved the Mexico '68 logo! I felt like I had seen this before, then I remembered the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. It seems they liked the style of the '68 Olympic logo so much that they had to use it twice

From a branding perspective, I am personally in favour of it being called Snidley from now on. It sounds like the name of a cuddly, yet weirdly big, puppet/mascot from a children's tv show, like: "Let's go and see what Snidley is up to today, come along!"

If there’s a mascot video coming, it has to include the running battle between the Sydney 2000 mascot (Fatso) and the pretenders to the throne (Syd, Ollie and Millie.) Sydneysiders will know the story. :)

Hello. These three videos were a blast. I don't have a design background but I really wish you whole channel was like this. As for suggestions, over in Europe there's a thing called Eurovision. Every edition has to have a logo, an overall style, a slogan and a unique stage. The logo also has to be able to change color to represent every participating country and both the slogan, the stage and the logo often synergies. It would be fun for you to research. I honestly look forward to them no less than to the actual songs.

I Find graphic design interesting especially the cultural differences that you get with these logos. I think the shapes in the Torino logo (31:15) are meant to represent the portici in the city, which, well, google "portici Torino" ‘cause it’s easier than explaining it :) Portici are very typical for Italian cities and Torino has the second longest Portici, with a length of 18 km, after Bologna, which has 40 km of them.
