Hi Andrew, love the reverse chronology concept. I tend to agree with your ratings but I have to say I'm in a minority for loving "New". It's the LP that stopped me digging Paul out and really appreciating him again. Chocked full of great songs and melodies evoking memories of the Beatles, a latter day triumph!

Loved the new way of ranking Paul's albums Andrew and so far I think you have nailed their relative positions. End of the End is one of my favorite Paul songs of the last 25 years, it really gets to me when he is so obviously contemplating his own mortality and how he will be remembered. Cant wait for the next episode in the series, cracking work :)

If you’re familiar with the George Martin “Love” album taking and remixing all the Beatles songs … it is fresh and so enjoyable and he had such a large catalog to work from. I would love to see McCartney take to creativity and remix his catalog taking liberties to pair and recreate his familiar songs into a new sound …I think it could really be well received and recycle excellent tracks into a new way to listen … Paul, you out there? What do you think?

I’ve really enjoyed this Andrew. My favourite Paul album has to be Flaming Pie, for many reasons. However I must also give honorary mentions to McCartney III, Flowers in the Dirt and Press to Play (yes, really!). I know Press doesn’t necessarily hold up too well, but it was the first solo McCartney record I can remember having an interest in. The video for the Press single, where Paul is on the tube, still delights me to this day.

Hey Andrew! Love, love, love this video. I'm pretty much in agreement with your ranking. I love ES too. I think it's a beautifully crafted album. However, why is it that nobody ever mentions the album opener, "I Don't Know"? The second I heard the opening chords on that beautiful grand piano, I was hooked. Gorgeous melody and stunning vocal by Paul. I also love MAF. I was fortunate to see Paul perform several of the album's tracks live when it first came out including Dance Tonight and House of Wax. He was promoting the new record and did a live show in Hollywood. I also agree that Gratitude is one of the worst things he has ever done. I loathe it and skip it when listening. I agree with your rankings of the others as well. I was amazed that McCartney III was as good as it was. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers.

Hello, hello. A brilliant idea and system of ranking. (And, yes, ranking, what's the point of ranking, well, it's fun). I agree with your high regard of Egypt Station. I loved it on first listen, and it has even grown since then. So, when did that happen with a McCartney LP? I think New deserves a higher ranking than the one you gave it. But, Egypt Station, is it my favourite of McCartney's solo? It will br exciting to see how it ranks on your list when you're through.

Egyptian Station is an excellent album. Take out about three average songs and replace them with the bonus tracks and you have a masterpiece. For me it’s not the best of his career, but It is his best of the 21st century. In thirty years time, when people catch up, we will look at it like we look at RAM now. My top five are # 5. Venus and Mars. #4. Egyptian Station. #3. Band On The Run. #2. Flaming Pie. #1. Ram (masterpiece). Great video 👍

Listening to it the way you describe makes for a very emotional ending. Thanks for sharing your thoughts . Even if your a little wrong it does make sense as a fan when you aline it with Abbey Road , The End. Have to say some songs on Mac 3 offer the same scenario. Perhaps sadly Paul is entering into each album in his mind as his possible last album ?

Bonus tracks could have improved album Memory Almost Full - Bonus tracks could have replaced the weak links in Side 1 and Nod Your Head ruins vibe New - 1st half strong, 2nd half one of Paul's weakest sides Kisses - originals are great, don't care for the covers

Enjoyable video, thanks Andrew. I think I'd go 1) Egypt Station then Electric Arguments and McCartney III tied at Number 2. EA is arguably McCartney III by any other name! Then 4) Memory Almost Full, 5) New and 6) Kisses. I still think if EA had been released as a regular Paul McCartney album co-produced by Youth then it would be regarded as a classic rather than a curio. I loved MAF when it was released, more so than Chaos. It was much more immediate. Chaos has really overtaken it in my estimation since. I still love MAF, but don't listen to it anywhere near as much as Chaos. The compression doesn't help it on CD either. People keep telling me to seek out the vinyl. I thought New was a really solid album when it came out with some very strong songs individually. As an album though I felt a little underwhelmed. Tough job, well executed. My ranking would have been entirely different, but who cares? My thought of seeing the Flaming Pie and later albums coming out on top has not materialised. Wonder if it really would have in my own list. Tug of War in my view should be much lower down and Pipes of Peace… how low can you get, I add: as Paul McCartney. You are talking to someone that bought Ram when it came out (I had to save for weeks). The music press was against him, he was seriously uncool. I remember Ushi on Beatclub berating Henry McColough for having left The Grease Band and joined Wings. So, I never bought Red Rose Speedway until much, much later. But Ram and McCartney will be up there near the top. And I share your soft spot for Wild Life. Incidentally, my worst McC song will be Teddy Boy, pointless, never ending. It misses an essential ingredient, perhaps a good middle-8 section?

I would rank McCartney 3 very high in my rankings up there with the great Paul albums. Of the later career albums I would rank this only second Chaos to Creation. I dont rank Egypt Station as highly as you do Andrew its a middle ranking in my opinion. New has a great side 1 but side 2 i find weak in general apart from Appreciate Kisses on the bottom would have been better if Paul had done this 10 years early as Paul is clearly struggling vocally. I actually prefer Sentimental Journey which is the only i prefer Ringos work to anything Paul has done. Electric Arguments is by far the best Fireman album but still not a favourite of mine. It is creative but not one i would listen to alot. Memory Almost Full again I would have as a middle ranking album. Dance Tonight is excellent but Gratitude and Nod My head are awful. Cheers mate

Cheers David, definitely agree on the Side 1/2 of New, I don't particularly enjoy the later parts of the album (after Appreciate)

I wonder how the albums would compare if the volume of pre-release publicity, and the number variations on the release, extra tracks on out of the way releases etc after the release, were the measure you were using. McCartney III would still be up of there, but what would be second? Third?....

I expect generally it would be a case of the newer the album, the higher it ranks!

It’s not that easy for me to decide which one - Memory Almost Full or Egypt Station - is better. ES is packed with great songs, but runs too long to my taste. MAF is shorter and provides a bright pleasant listening experience: I feel happy everytime upon hearing it. But MAF was made during the "old" times when you could still expect great songs from Paul, and ES came as surprise 11 years later, because during those 11 years we were rarely getting anything "great" from him. I didn’t personally expect new PM's hits, that’s why ES appeared to be so fantastic. I love it.

Hi Andrew If you type in John Lennon & Paul McCartney On The Tonight Show - 15 May 1968 It is not fascinating and only runs for a few minutes but I believe it will probably be taken down within 24 hours (it was loaded today) so this might be your only chance in life to see this footage. Cheers.

my ranking of these today (could change any day) is: 1. Electric Arguments 2. McCartney III 3. Egypt Station 4. Memory Almost Full 5. New 6. Kisses On the Bottom I consider EA almost a masterpiece, McCartney III very decent, Egypt Station good with excellent moments, MMA and New good to average... and Kisses On The Bottom is probably my least favourite McCartney album alongside Press To Play...

I Don’t Know and Happy With You are in his top ten ever in terms of quality, up there with Yesterday, Let It Be and Hey Jude and better than lovey dovey stuff like Michelle and Here There and Everywhere. Kisses, on the other hand, was a total waste of time, only album Paul sings on that I never bought. Of these albums, Memory Almost Full is my favorite. I put it up there with Ram, Pepper, Revolver and Abbey Road.

I’d agree with most of that ranking though I’d have McCartney 3 over memory almost full. Egypt station would be top as its a special album for me as it’s the first one which came out while I was a fan of Paul and it’s just a great album anyway. Not the biggest fan of New and think it’s a pretty mid tier McCartney album w which has a few really good songs on

Great video but I will go with New of this lot. I thought it was brilliantly put together. He had just turned 70 and to put this out totally blew me away. So many different styles just amazing. I think the rest are about even for my listening pleasure . Fireman last . Wasn’t A big fan

You naturally excluded his classical and first two Fireman albums (and the Freelance Hellraiser one, and Thrillington?) Wonder whether you should also not have excluded Kisses on the Bottom. It clearly does not fall into the Pop/Rock categories like the rest. But, yes, it does include a few originals. Of course, I like the album and try to save it from being at the bottom. Kisses for the album from me.

I am sure many people will not find the following quote surprising however I thought it would be a positive act to post.. We all love his music but he is also a very kind soul. Many have criticised his frugal ways but that is unfair as people who grow up in near poverty usually do. The other thing that people do not know is that he gives millions to charities. He just doesn't tell any one and does it privately. That is real and genuine charity. What’s weird about Paul McCartney? For a billionaire, McCartney lives very frugally. He was raised in a relatively poor household and seems quite well-grounded. He grew up with working class family and neighbours for whom frugality was ingrained because they had experienced hard times in the depression and the war. He has never forgotten this. He has nice houses, but not opulent mansions. He has no servants, just a part-time housekeeper. His wife said that he is a neat freak and often tidies up the house before the housekeeper arrives. They cook their own meals at home. He doesn't own a corporate jet; he just takes air taxis and charter jets when he travels. He owns no super yacht. He once owned an old, renovated trawler when he was with Linda, but he has sold it. Now he sometimes charters some other millionaire’s yacht for a week or two when he wants to. He is frugal, but not a cheapskate. He supported his elderly aunts and uncles for all their lives. He has supported 50 charities and given away millions. he has raised millions more playing benefit concerts. McCartney never lavished money on his kids, encouraging them to go to affordable universities or pay their own way. Most of them have made their own way in the world with great success because of this, even though they will one day inherit millions. McCartney’s style is not weird, but certainly remarkable and interesting. Source: Jay Snead retired researcher, amateur philosopher QUORA It is any wonder his fans such as Andrew, Tom and Andy and Matthew Street are also kind, thoughtful gentlemen.

McCartney III is a big disappointment after Egypt Station. With the exception of the song NEW, I thought the album NEW was pretty good. Then came Egypt Station, and I was blown away. So I expected more from McCartney III. The Fireman album was great at first but I quickly got burned out on it. My list would be: 1. Egypt Station 2. NEW 3. Memory Almost Full 4. McCartney III 5. Electric Arguments 6. Kisses On the Bottom

I never warmed to Mccartney 3 but I admit I only played it a few times. I will give it a chance and play it again. My feeling was of disappointment- the first time I’ve ever had that feeling with McCartneys stuff that I’ve bought.. I loved Egypt station which in my view was a major achievement for an artist in his late seventies. Having said that about ES ,I hated fuh.you and would have binned that and included the single from the same sessions. On MAF I loved house of wax but hated nod your head which I find tuneless and jarring. I don’t think I’ve listened to electric arguments ( I don’t have it) so I can’t comment. I have tried to listen to it on you tube but didn’t enjoy the few tracks I’ve heard. The same goes for kisses on the bottom. New is a fair album and many artists would be proud of it but I expect more from McCartney .The word genius is often thrown about with artists but McCartney is clearly one.

It seems unlikely that he'll be able to make a more enjoyable album than Egypt Station in his eighties, but you can't bet against him at the moment.
