Just so you guys know, the volcanoes in Lava were designed as tributes to Israel and Marlene Kamakawiwoʻole (Israel is the artist who sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World) because they were very special parts of Hawaiian culture, it wasn't just 'hey let's make a volcano' and 'hey let's make a girl and make her a volcano'. They look like that purposefully and if you look up pictures of Israel and Marlene together, you will see the influence they clearly had on the design of the characters!

Still no excuse, in my opinion, to drop the ball on the design department. I don't want to be rude at all, but it comes off as them not wanting to work it out in a way that the designs could be cohesive while still refrencing the people they wanted

LittleDewDroplets I didn't take it as them thinking the design was not cohesive, I was thinking it was more of a feminist critique (one I've heard many times before), but that might just be the way I took it. And I do get what you're saying, but I certainly felt it was cohesive when I watched it. Just one opinion of course (and I am by no means an expert in animation).

I really Identify with the big awkward bird in "For The Birds" because I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a form of Autism. Though you probably wouldn't be able to tell I had autism if you talked to me, I'm not so good at socializing. I was a little bit insecure, especially in middle school, because I knew I was different than the other kids. Looking back I kind of feel like I was that awkward "odd bird" trying to fit in a social group and hoping I didn't "weigh down the wire" and get bullied (though I never did, the kids were always very accepting).

Geri's Game, Lava, and La Luna are up there for me, but Boudin' holds a special place in my heart. It helped me keep my chin up when things were down, which is actually the entire message. I appreciated the honest "here is the point" vibe of the short for the simple fact that I was so young when it came out and I'm not sure if I would have understood (and I don't think it would have had such a massive impact on my life) if it was left abstract and without words. Gotta admit I'm bummed to see it was your guys' bottom picks, but I understand that we all have different preferences and have had different life experiences! PS, I love these co-starred review videos and am eager to see more!

My favorite has to be Geri's Game. It was a cute short, an old man playing a chess game by himself, possibly remembering an old friend. But honestly I just love how at the end he spins the chessboard around and steals the win from... himself xD

One man band is extremely intelligent - definitely one of my favourites! Here's my interpretation: it is an allegory for other animation studios. Pixar (the girl) had a wish to make unique stories (the penny in the fountain). Meanwhile, studios (like Illumination for example) are represented through the two 'one man bands', constantly trying to 1 up each other with fancier technology (more instruments), but lacking soul underneath. This is why they are trying to take the coin away (from Pixar) and are seen at the end doing everything they can just for one measly penny - showing their greed and unhealthy desire. On the other hand, we see Pixar playing the violin (a solo, simple instrument but sweet and full of meaning), showing that it isn't about the technology or VFX, it is the bigger picture that matters.

Lava is my favorite because when I went to see inside out in theaters, they accidentally played the 2D version of the short instead of the 3D one. When the short began replaying (this time in 3D) a woman from the back of the theater shouted at the screen "I don't lava you!!!" it was the funniest thing and the whole theater cracked up!!! :) :) :)

The Blue Umbrella is hands down the best Pixar short for me. The animation for the umbrellas is absolutely adorable and you can't help but love the blue umbrella. And the way they make the city interact and try to help keep the blue umbrella safe is astounding and how (like you said) they didn't put googly eyes on everything, the face was made out of the parts of the object which I thought was so creative. But my favourite part is the music and how pure and loving and cute it is. I love everything about it, like I don't have a single negative thing. I was so happy that it was high up on your lists.

Personally, I loved the Half Blood Prince more than any of the other books. After Order of the Phoenix I really just wanted things to go back to the way they were, and it was the most satisfying thing to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione go through one last year where everything was just like it was supposed to be. They stayed in school, went to classes, were able to talk to Dumbledore and see all of their old friends and everything, plus there's the inevitable end-of-the-year battle that Harry has to fight like usual. After getting to experience all of that one last time I was perfectly satisfied with Hogwarts and ready for the Deathly Hallows book to happen when everything they were used to was thrown out the window for the fight against Voldemort. Although, as a side note, the movie version was not nearly as good in my opinion. It was way too dark, plus they left out some important scenes (all of the ones with Harry and Ginny for starters). Favorite movie visually was the last one, but content wise was probably the third one.

Since you guys are talking about shorts I have a theory. Before cars 3 there's a short Lou. The main protagonist is a bully and when I was watching a theory video I spotted him in inside out. You could see him in the back corner of the classroom and after Riley is walking up to the school. Both characters look exactly the same!! The face shape, nose, hail color, and eye color. The only difference is the kid in rileys class has longer hair and is older. I hope you like this theory!!! (Please look into Pixar movies being connected to the shorts)

A really cool thing about Lava is its influences and references. To Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole. Like how the volcanoes are inspired directly from the late, IZ and his wife, Marlene. So the tune of Lava being similar to the tune of Somewhere over the rainbow has deeper meaning when you realize the song is paying tribute to one of Hawaii's most influential citizens.

Ben and J, in Inside Out Joy and Sadness got sucked into the memory tube that goes from head quarters to long term. Fear wanted to quit and leave, so he called the the tube and to leave. He couldnt get through? Disgust said "Emotions cant quit genius" but how did Joy and Sadness get through but Fear did not?

KNICK KNACK WAS MY FAVORITE. I used to be scared of it as a kid. I loved how everything flowed and for its time had great animation. Also Gerri's Game scared me too. The guy was playing chess by himself!!! And his personality switch didn't make sense to me when I was younger. So basically any Pixar shirt that scared me as a kid, I now love.

My favorite Pixar short would either be Day and Night, or Lava. Day and Night has to be the most original short from Pixar, but Lava has to be the sweetest and most satisfying short of them all, and I love that short so much for that! So one of those would be my favorite of them all. Great great video!

I just have *_SUCH_* a connection with lava. It was the first short I ever saw. When I was a kid, I would sit on the swings, trying to perfect my ability to sing the song. I can sing it perfectly to this day.

My favorite is Presto, and mostly for its entertainment value. It is just so funny! But I also just really enjoy watching someone play with mechanics. I like magic systems, and sci-fi and superpowers, but especially when someone takes those things and applies them creatively. And that is what Presto fundamentally is: the creative application of a mechanic
