Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green for the Game Boy were such a big hit, that the games were sent out to the rest of the world, starting a global love affair with the franchise now known as Pokémon. Putting crystal, emerald and black 2 so low is criminal. They have by far the most content of any pokemon game. The pokemon world tournament for b/w 2, the second map for Crystal, the battle frontier, etc.. It feels like the reviewers haven't played those games.

This list gives credit to the games that originally introduced content. Meaning the remakes/3rd instalments have to be held againts the improvements they make on the original and not what they "stole" from it.

@@KaiserHanstedt no, I'm talking about revisions of the same game, not sequels. Nobody is saying SW/SH are #2 because they're 2nd most recent. Emerald is OBJECTIVELY better than Ruby and Sapphire and Platinum is OBJECTIVELY better than Diamond and Pearl, they're the same game with more/better content and balancing, tweaks, etc. People keep explaining how they graded it, by only including the new content, but I'll repeat what I said in my last comment: it's a very flawed system that doesn't give credit where credit is due, if you're going to do a retrospective list you need to consider the fact that nobody in their right mind doesn't play the 3rd version of these games today. The system they used to judge this has issues if Diamond and Pearl are above Platinum, plain and simple

@@LieutenantWallaby Crystal is good, yes, but HeartGold and SoulSilver have almost everything, if not everything that Crystal offered, and also made everything else better. While Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were also really good, but they changed too much. While Dimming Pearl and Dunce Diamond were embarrassments, and Platinum is my favourite Pokemon game. Silver then Ruby were my favourite prior, and I loved those remakes.

Especially platinum. Diamond and Pearl were very bad when they came out. So many problems, yet Platinum is the reason why people like Gen 4. If they had done a Z version for gen 6 it would be the same. But the reviews are a bit weird.

A major flaw of this list is putting the premium versions of the games (Crystal, Emerald, Platinum) behind the original pairs in their generations. It's widely agreed upon by fans that the premium versions are better. They never sold as well because most gamers already had played the original versions and the premium games just don't really offer enough to justify buying essentially the same game again. But if you've never played Gen 2, play Crystal. If you've never played Gen 3, play Emerald. If you've never played Gen 4, for God's sake play Platinum. Emerald and Platinum are the best Pokemon games. Just a fact.

I have to say, Scarlet and Violet was the best experience I had in a mainline Pokémon game sense X and Y. Me and my wife played together and completed the Pokédex. Buggy as all hell? Yep. But it was leaps and bounds better than Sword and Shield, experience wise.

Agreed. It's unfairly hated. I think as far as official releases go (not including romhacks and Infinite Fusion), they're like the third or fourth best mainline games -- after BW, BW2, HG/SS, and maybe Platinum. Plus terrastalization is BY FAR the best gimmick. Megas were so lame and unnecessary, z-moves were stupid, and gigantimax was meh.

It was pretty overly panned by critics and very plugged in gamer types. For the average pokemon loving Joe, the games were pretty well liked. It's biggest downfall is it came after Arceus, which did what gen 9 was trying to do first and better awkwardly enough. Certainly they were much funner games to actually play then gen 8, 7, and 6.

I know a lot of people at my job that will go on and on about the bugs even though they never played the game but have no clue about the game play. Mostly because the negative aspects were kind of over covered by the news compared to its positives. To a casual pokemon playing audience I think it rates a lot higher overall then the critiques and scores might suggest.

I LOVE Mystery dungeon games and Gates to Infinity was my favorite 😢 Although they are all amazing. They have about a quadrillion times more emotions and plot than all of the main series games combined. I loved the inner dialogue and those character portraits with different expressions. And the relationships between the characters, true friendship and all that. And the ending... I always cry at the end 😭 Oh yeah, and the music was also amazing. I hope they make a new one at some point... Although anything that goes on for too long inevitably turns to shit at the end so maybe it's time to let the series go while it's still pure at heart ❤

Man, I know the hate for Scarlet and Violet is basically traditional at this point. But I've never had that much fun in a Pokemon game for hours on end. Just to set the record straight, Pokemon Card GB2 is amazing and should, if anything, be higher than the first game. It expands on the first game so much, there are so many more cards, so many more ways to build your deck (it includes the first round of Team Rocket cards that got released, as well as tons of vending machine promos never printed in the US and GB exclusives). Unlike the first game which only has so many viable strategies, and you're likely to get whatever you want to use by the end - there's so many more cards in the second game that the RNG of what you pull from packs matters significantly for what your options are, making it incredibly replayable. Every gym on the new island has special challenges where your deck has to meet certain prerequisites, like having 4 Rattatas, or only using a certain kind of energy, usually putting you at some kind of disadvantage (or preventing you from steamrolling them with the perfect counter). Like you said, it wasn't released outside of Japan, and the first time I played it was with a romhack that translated everything essential to progression - but these days there are fully translated English roms out there. If you are someone who was a fan of the first Pokemon TCG GB game, you are doing yourself a HUGE disservice not playvvving the sequel. It's a PHENOMENAL experience for any fan of the genre.v

1. Crystal because it added so much that became the norm for all games going forward and I remember how cool that I found the new changes. Crystal was the first to add animated pokemon in battles, a battle tower, male/female character, a sign at the bottom of the screen telling you the name of the area that youve just entered, and it started more focus on sub quests meaning that there was more to do alongside following the main storyline.

I love these deluxe length TripleJump rankings, I’ve been enjoying the entire ride taking the mickey out of the Rumble series, and then Mystery Dungeon 2 appeared inbetween two PC games I’ve never heard of within the bottom 20 and I feel the intense need to add some rope to my Amazon basket

@boydriceisawesome2520 I enjoy mindless 1v1000 games on occasion, I forget when I've said this but different games, even of the same genre scratch different itches, I equally enjoy heavy political stories like the legend of heroes trails as much as I do a lighthearted romp with a certain purple dragon. I also judge every game as it's own even when their part of a series that's why my opinion on paper mario sticker star, good or bad, wasn't colored by disappointment that it wasn't the next thousand year door.

This is the issue with creating lists based solely on review scores. Review scores are probably the furthest thing from an objective ranking you could get, especially when you're ranking a series that has multiple genres and potential fan bases to cater to.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is better than a vast majority of the main series. The best thing the series could do is get rid of the cliche ass gyms and humans, if they want to talk about repetitive gameplay. Ain't no way Detective Pikachu, or the Cafe series, or ranger or PoGo is superior.

8:30 I still have Pokemon box: ruby and sapphire. Too bad I opened it as I hardly used it. It goes for a lot of money on ebay. The reason why it sold so poorly is because it was only offered from the Pokemon center website and the Pokemon center in New York so the price reflects its rarity. Just looking on ebay right now, the last one sold for $1,500.

By my calculations, bad reviews by critics on Pokemon games I played are completely wrong. My parents say that critics are the worst and makes me believe that bad reviews of games I played are just lies. I'm not a critic. I had a lot of fun playing the Pokemon games I have. Here is a list of all the mainline games I have: Pokemon FireRed - I have not played the original Game Boy games. Pokemon Platinum - I prefer this version instead of the original Diamond and Pearl games. Pokemon SoulSilver - Not my best remake I played since I prefer 3D over 2D. Pokemon Black - I like Reshiram more than Zekrom. Pokemon White 2 - I prefer White Kyurem more. Also, for Rival characters whose names I can customize, I always use my brother's name, Brendan. Pokemon X - I prefer Charizard and Mewtwo's X versions of their Mega forms. Pokemon Omega Ruby - I never played the original Ruby and Sapphire games. Pokemon Sun - I pretty much prefer Sogoleo over Lunala. Pokemon Ultra Sun - I like the Ultra games more than Sun and Moon. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu - I prefer the Let's Go games more than the Game Boy Advance Gen 1 remakes because of the 3D graphics and I like the catching mechanic since I play Pokemon Go. Pokemon Sword - I don't care if there is no National Dex since I have no complaints about it. I also liked the Dynamax method, it almost makes me feel like The Pokemon Company and Game Freak got the idea of making a Pokemon giant sized because of Kaiju films (Game Freak loves the Godzilla series). Pokemon Brilliant Diamond - I never played the original DS games but I liked these remakes, it doesn't matter to me what the graphics are like, they look great. Pokemon Legends: Arceus - It made me think this was open world since you can go wherever you want but it wasn't. Still a great game. Pokemon Violet - While both Gen 9 games had bugs and glitches at launch, I never encountered any of them. This was a great game and I do like the futuristic Paradox Pokemon. Two of them which interested me being Iron Thorns (references Mechagodzilla) and Iron Jugulis (references Mecha-King Ghidorah). I liked Miraidon because it traveling on land makes it more motorcycle-like than Koraidon.

In defense of Pokemon Battle Revolution, at the time there was no way to battle on the big screen. It was a huge deal at the time that the DS could connect to it allowing you and your friends to battle on the big screen with your DSs. Less impressive now a days but huge in the gen 4 era.

This has to be one of the best mystery dungeon titles in existence, with some fun music, a nice storyline, a huge roster you could play as, lots of replay value.... and you put it in the 70s of your rankings. Sun and Moon were fantastic. I loved how, rather than some evil guy trying to harness a legendary pokemon you don't see until the final story hour, the box legendary is your friend throughout the entire game and plays a role in protecting you.
