Two corrections: 1) Saying "But you don't exercise" is more accurately known as the tu quoque fallacy. Whataboutism/red herring generally diverts to a completely different subject. --> For those curious, the opposite is "face in the door" where you ask for something big, intentionally get turned down, then ask for something small. It will seem trivial in comparison and they'll agree. 2) Foot in the door is not about giving a gift, that's more of an obligation technique. Foot in the door is asking for a minor thing, and afterwards a bigger thing. The person already agreed to one, so they're more likely to agree to another. So, you'd ask someone to lend you a flashlight before you ask them to lend you their car.

Love comments like this, providing context or additional info. Correct me if I'm wrong but "foot in the door" also plays on "sunk cost fallacy" (for those who might not know - where people get stuck in something because they've already thrown resources, time, money, etc and to change course means they'd have to acknowledge it is a waste)

i love the way statistics can be misused, my favorite example came from drivers ed actually. They told the class you're more likely to go to the hospital if you're wearing a seatbelt during a crash, and when everyone questioned why wear seatbelts at all, they tacked on that it's because many who DON'T wear seatbelts are pronounced dead on the scene. It was a massive wake up call for the way that we think about statistics.
@jarskil8862

That is called survivor bias. It actually was so strong that it almost cancelled WW1 helmet design. British were concerned how there were so many dead people due head injuries and they commanded designer to come up with better design. After the design was implemented, amount of head injuries skyrocketed and people got angry about "horrible helmets" What was the case? Former lethal injuries turned to just injuries.

@@dralinkushinen Even if there was no evil intention or anything, you're probably nudged several times each day. The most common ones are: __ One option is simply easier or more accessible than the other...but they can make one option purposefully appear or make easier and the other harder to obtain. __ Any phrasing of what others are doing such as; "More and more people are..." "Most people are..." Or a combination of majority and increase __ Making one option purposefully appear less favorable, like sigarette packaging, while another one is made to appear favorable like a happy emoji or feel good music in traffic or places you can spend money. __ Just in supermarkets: The aisle with wine or expensive products is narrow, you pass it slower and are more likely to buy Vegetables and ruits at the start, you are still more willing to spend a lot Some of the most important products are far away from the entrance, that way you have to pass all other products and probably buy something else The most profitable products are placed at eye-level If something has several or many options, like cereals, the most profitable ones are in the middle of the options They are now using smell of fresh vegetables and fish in supermarkets

Quite amazing example of populist bandwagon here is that our right wing populists get only 30% aproval rating among their own voters ... still their support is only in very slow deciline. The party is currently crumbling faster from inside than by outside popularity. There is constantly in news how some basic level politicians are resigning from the populist party because their actions in goverment are completely different from words they promised before elections.

I suppose you are not referring to american political landscape. There would be only one party that accuses the other of using, not propaganda, but straight up evil, then the #2 party would literally just describe reality and say the first party uses propaganda a lot. I will let you decide which side is which. By the way, brazilian politics works the same way. There are multiple dozens of parties, especially after fasc*sm took off and right wingers went into nationalist, christian party-making frenzy, but in practice we have the progressive side and the christian, billionaire pet side. If anyone asks, "the big center", as it's called there, are right wing parties that pick candidates from any background - but mostly right wing. It's explicitly only about party heads making money by launching any kind of candidate, then funneling the money to lavish life styles and "pure right parties". Sometimes I wonder why this is legal and why nobody des anything about it despite everyone knowing it.

I can already picture my yuppy ex getting uppity the second I used a string of words that were used in this video to tell her Ill vacuum the living room in a bit...... If they are open to a real conversation, and not retreating back into the propaganda hole, it is easier to leave a mental comfort-space and snack for thought. People have behaviors much like a rodent in a burrow. They will leave their comfort zone, explore a safe distance away, and then rush back to the den if they get too far away. But they will gradually venture further away, especially if they get good rewards for getting out of the comfort zone. The more different, but rewarding experiences they have, the less fear they experience. Fear is a gigantic motivator for people to fall prey to the most sinister propgandas.

There are two common types that I noticed is over use yet people don't even noticed. 1) Instead of narrating what happened, which is the news and allowing you to judge yourself, they invite so-called experts to share their thoughts on the narrative, and their thoughts become the news. Try counting how many people are invited to share thoughts on news you haven't fully digested and you'll be shocked to realise you have only pick side to what the guest on the program said, you weren't given the time to think originally. 2) they replaced the name of a group in order to stop you from thinking or asking what they really are standing/fighting for, instead you just accept them as the bad or good guys due to the name. They use names like Terrorist group, opposition, defence unit, protesters, pro democracy, a nazi, a racist, anti-, phobia, etc

I do often see the Latitude of Acceptance done by video game publishers and Unity, they announce the worst version of their new monitization system, then dial it back to a more "acceptable" version after waves of backlaah in a smokescreen of "listening to feedback". I included Unity because they wanted to charge an install fee, at first, it was a percentage base that got higher the more installs your software got if you're using the paid version, and installs from the same account on different hardware counted as new installs, along with different accounts on the same hardware. This would of course lead to massive loses on devs, so they dialed it back to a more "aaceptable" version and successfully implemented the "install fee" bs.

Very nice video! Another technique I've seen used often is to accuse an opponent of doing or attempting the same exact bad thing you are doing. This often works well as a diversion to simultaneously attack an opponent while keeping attention away from oneself. It might seem incredibly obvious what you're doing but in practice the real facts are often very obfuscated and the accusations are very difficult to defend yourself from

That's called projection Example: The conservatives here in Germany have been accusing anyone who uses gender-inclusive language of wanting to control how people write and speak, but now they (conservatives) are making moves to outlaw gender-inclusive language*, thus controlling how people write and speak! *or as they call it: "gendered" language. Which completely (and very intentionally) ignores the fact the German language is inherently gendered and what they're actually advocating for is everything to be gendered masculine.

I find it interesting how many of those are then related to logical fallacies which sometimes have similar names. For example Firehose of Falsehood would relate to the logical fallacy of Shotgun Argumentation, and Appeal to Fear would relate to the logical fallacy of Appeal to Emotion.

This is an awesome video. I find myself really wishing for you to expand on or show down on some of these. You could even bring in a couple real world examples to really ground these ideas in the viewership minds. It's a huge amount of information and i want more! Great job
@Alblaka

I think the very point of this channel is to NOT bring real world examples, because that way you end up on a political side (even if only in that very moment) of whatever you're using as a negative example. If your goal is to educate people despite their already existing political leanings, avoiding any and all real-world-examples is a good way to do it. You cannot be accused of bias if you stay minimalistic and factual.

Wow this is kind of crazy i clicked on this video because i wanted some white noise in the background whilst I style my hair but I actually ended up learning a lot... A lot of things in life that I would just label off as marketing or inequality that are actuallt also forms of propaganda. And i usually think that im pretty self aware of the media I consume and that propaganda is unlikely to affect me but I now see that yes I have probably consumed each and every type of propaganda and at some points even fell for them.. this is very educating and was a great watch, this is what I love about youtube
