Every Quarterback To Throw For 500+ Yards In A Single Game

One of the most rare accomplishments for an NFL Quarterback has to be throwing for over 500 yards in a single game. This has only been done a total of 26 times over the history of the league. Most of these performances came in the regular season, but a couple of these were very special and happened in the playoffs.

It's an overlooked aspect of it, but it's pretty impressive that Roethlisberger won all 3 of his 500 yd games. So many 500 yd games come in blowouts when a QB is just throwing for their lives, trying to get back in it and picking up a couple hundred extra yards in garbage time when the other team is in prevent defense for the last quarter and a half of the game.

Imagine throwing for 505 yards in the Superbowl and doing it with short white receivers and gronk and loosing because your head coach decides to bench the cornerback who had started EVERY game the past 3 years and then that coach thinking he doesn't owe anybody anything. How's the unemployment line bill?
@anonymike8280

What's with the white bashing? Here's an assignment. What are the salient abilities of the white receivers that are less common in the black receivers? I've seen this done in other sports and thought the accounts were accurate and well thought out. I haven't watched enough football in the last decade to go deep on this topic, but one thing I do think is that the white receivers are better at catching the low ball and better at coming back to the ball. Both of these things probably reduce the risk of interceptions in that they affect the type of ball the QB has to throw. But you're the big expert, jack. You break it down.

Patrick Mahomes isn't on this list yet, but he's already had at least one 400-yard game every season as a starter and is tied for 6th all time with Philip Rivers and Dak Prescott with 11 career 400-yard games. His high of 478 yards, set in the wild 54-51 loss to the Rams in 2018, is one yard behind Peyton Manning's career high of 479, which he reached at the age of 38 in a 41-20 win against the Cardinals in 2014.

I've watched a lot of football in the last 50 years, both NFL and college, and for my money, it didn't get better than watching Drew Brees. Even when he played for Purdue, you knew he was gonna be great. They call Tom Shady the GOAT and, when it comes to the Super Bowl, he's definitely the GOAT BUT, when it comes down to throwing the ball and being a QB, Brees owns every QB that's ever put on a jersey. He had 12 seasons where he had at least 4k passing yards and 5 of those years, he had 5k passing yards. If Tom Shady hadn't played so long or gotten away with as much as he did, Brees would still be at the top of the record books where he belongs. Because of steroid use, Barry Bonds has an asterisk next to his HR records. Tom Shady deserves asterisk with all of the scandals he got caught up in and found to be cheating. I know I just pissed off every Patriots and Tom Shady fan out there but Tom Shady was a diva, a punk. What other QB has made it so you can't hit the QB more than Shady? He's lucky he didn't play upwards of 10 years earlier... He would have been crying during warm ups about the looks he was receiving BEFORE he was even hit. Tom Shady is the GOAT when it comes to SB rings AND getting the league to implement everything he cried about... Drew Brees went out, took his lumps without whining, without cheating and without the zebras seeing it his way. That's what makes Drew Brees the GOAT

The second game where Big Ben threw for 500 yds and 6 tds he went out the very next game and threw 6 tds again, not quite 500 yds again but he’s the only qb to ever throw 6 tds in BTB games. Definition of a gunslinger.

Great video thanks a lot for posting it . Play just for the record the year 2000 what's the last year of the 20th century not the first year of the 21st century. Thanks again. So Grbac is a 20th century 500 yd game

How many of these 500 yard games resulted in losses? Any team that is passing that much is probably behind early in the game. Total offense of 500 yards is a much more telling stat.

As a raiders fan I remember the 2016 season all to well it seemed like almost every game was a 4th quarter comeback but we were winning them Carr looked poised to take the next step and then the colts game happened and he broke his leg the team fell apart and to this day the raiders still haven’t got their grove back

Guess it makes sense so many of these 500 yard games came in close or even losing contests. When you're up by a comfortable margin already, you're usually not still airing it out and piling on the yards. Unless you're the Patriots.

In this video he talks about a QB throw for 500 yards and I don't really care because it tells me that it was a offensive attack.What I care about is how many points did the team put up whether it be offence or defense or special team's when you watch the game you will have analysis quarter by quarter to the half,and final score.And I look at the stats very important in this very physical sport, and thats why they have a helmet and all those pads worst than the NBA,NHL,SOCCERRUDBY,and look at the amount of injuries and the hits that they take but you can't compare it to boxing because it's only 2 people in the ring that's why you have a lot of referees and different cameras to see the play back in slow motion.And these cameras are in different area's too make the correct call. NOW when you talk about full contact that's a whole different story because they are using martial arts as my friend is 20 degree black belt in KUNG FU.

This is a video about all the quarterbacks who have ever thrown for 500 yd. Whether they won or lost doesn't matter, the fact that they threw for 500 yd in one game is insane. This video has nothing to do with how violent the game is. If you don't care about someone throwing for 500 yd then why are you watching this video?
