Here a phobophobia "victim" struggling with this type of phobia. In the past when I heard about phobophobia I found it weird and funny because i thought it was impossible to develop such a thing. My struggle with phobophobia begun in 2023, and yes fear makes me have panic attacks, because, in my case, when I have huge anxiety I tend to pass out or vomit. So in this case I guess phobophobia is generated by the fact that fear and anxiety can trigger some unpleasant feelings within the victim (such as vomiting or passing out) which make the victim fear these feelings and tends to be scared of its own fear feeling, because he knows that it's gonna trigger those distressing feelings. Im currently talking with my doctor and my family members to fix this issue and have a peaceful life, so far I've been fighting it very well. Also what you said in the video is accurate: Who suffers from phobophobia tends to avoid social interaction at all costs because of this costant fear of having anxiety or a panic attack. It's accurate because I used to do that and I also avoided eating food because I was afraid to vomit aswell.

I had sleep paralysis once. It wasn't scary as I didn't hallucinate anything. I just noticed that I couldn't call out and I could not move any limb. So I just kept my breathing shallow until the rest of my body woke up. When I was a lifeguard, we had to clean pools and we had a mask connected to an air compressor. Where you had to take shallow breaths to be able to stay underwater. So I learned to not panic and take shallow breaths from my experience of cleaning pools. I have arithmophobia. I can do basic math fine and I’ve taken tests that confirmed that my math skills are well above average, but when I see any sort of math problem that’s convoluted with numbers/algebraic letters/fractions, I get extremely stressed out and I just want to look away from it. My dad would force me to stay up until midnight doing my math homework when it was hard for me to grasp the processes of solving the equations back then (gotta love learning disabilities), so I’d be stuck trying to solve problems that I had no idea how to solve without taking any breaks whatsoever. It really didn’t help that most of my math teachers were awful and made the experience even worse. So now, I’m terrified of the thought of having to do complex math problems even though my mind is perfect for solving them.
@iOmMiO6 ай бұрын
nuh uh you don't have that phobia
@MetaGiga6 ай бұрын
@iOmMiO I probably am not as scared of math to an extreme degree like not being able to solve simple problems, but I’m absolutely serious. I didn’t mention anything much about what happens because I didn’t want to make the entire comment too long, but here’s the unabridged version of what happens: I physically cannot solve or even look at anything with fractions or long algebraic equations or else I start to shut down. I start shaking and hyperventilating and eventually, I have to stop looking at it because I get too stressed and freaked out. How I was evaluated for my math skills was through word problems and simple problems I could do on my own. If those word problems were presented in raw numbers, I wouldn’t have been able to solve them.

Glad to see I'm not alone. It's rough that you went through that. I personally still remember my mother screaming at me for not knowing how to do long division, so I get freaked out when I see long division, and get uncomfortable around more complex math when technically, I can do the math just fine. Arithmophobia is not fun, everyone thinks I'm weird or crazy for being scared around long division, so, you're not alone.

In my case, having globophobia (10:15) is caused by hoplophobia. As someone who has been in gun violence situations more times than I can count, I've developed hoplophobia (the intense and extreme fear of firearms such as guns). For my friends and I who have globophobia, all have different forms of it. I have the intense fear of them popping and creating the same noise as a gunshot causing a panic atack. My friend however has an icky fealing when hearing the squeek of a baloon rubbing against something.
@camm52455 ай бұрын
I have somniphobia for two different reasons: 1 is that I would constantly, night after night, have dreams of people I cared about dying in extremely gruesome ways. I couldn't handle it. 2 is that I am scared that I am vulnerable during sleep and something bad could happen to me while sleeping and I wouldn't know.

Holy- It's so rare my phobia gets brought up. I have casadastraphobia/anablephobia. Things like kites, helium balloons, fireworks, even clouds- they bother me if I'm also under open sky. Looking directly into the sky or even a really high ceiling gives me terrible anxiety and vertigo. It's so irrational, but I can't help it. It's silly because I'm not a naturally frightful person, in fact (beyond horrible tragedies) I can't think of anything that "scares" me beyond looking up. It's pretty inconvenient considering the sky is pretty standard regardless of where you are. I will say, I don't mind looking out windows- I use clouds to help inspire my doodles. I don't even feel the anxiety while in a car. But the fear is as simple as: "What if I just inexplicably fell into the sky?" and the answer is: "I wouldn't care for that one bit..." If I'm trying to psycho-analyze myself: I remember the fear first arising when I was just a sprout while at a baseball game, likely a Guardians (Indians at the time) game. I let a balloon go and stared at it while it rose into the sky and I watched it get smaller and smaller and smaller- and then it was gone. I've gone into great detail about this elsewhere, but it feels like I could *feel* the fear forming. At first it wasn't a fear of the sky, it was just a nagging confusion (I've equated it to a newly realized fetish). Balloons bothered me when they were outdoors and I hated flying kites, and I don't recall ever INTENTIONALLY looking up I don't think I was scared of it at first. Then I was reminded of the fear often enough to cement it. Every time I tried to break myself of the fear, it kinda just became stronger. I'd try to just fly kites to show myself it wouldn't hurt me and I would end up in the fetal position gripping onto the thread like a freak because I "felt the sky pulling". I'd try to look up at something very tall outside and I'd end up vomiting. It seems so silly, but it is actually kind of annoying how long I've had this fear. I'm 26 now. I have moments of peace on my back porch, where I'll stargaze for a bit before dread overcomes me and I need to go inside. Funny enough, NOT afraid of heights at all. I can go in planes, those don't bother me. I could probably even go in a hot air balloon; but seeing one of those giant holiday parade balloons in person? *Absolutely not.* Thanks for discussing it, I feel *seen* .

I feel like you'd write good horror. The idea of the sky pulling is so creepy in such a Junji Ito way. As someone who has dealt with a lot of weird OCD fear shit, all I can recommend is one foot in front of the other, remember that your fat ass is heavy, and maaaaaybe take an SSRI if there's any other indications for it.

I have trypophobia, an irrational fear of closely-packed holes. For example, one time I went to this bungalow these people were living in and one of those walls had these blocks of wood with these holes in between them. It doesn't sound too bad, but damn that sent shivers down my spine. I tried looking away, but my eyes kept drifting back. That was probs one of my worse cases

I used to have the balloon fear exactly because of the noise. I don’t exactly know what started it but I do remember not having it for a while, then heading a balloon pop again and then after that I would run out of the room crying every time someone would blow up a balloon because I was scared shitless of the noise. I’ve grown over this fear thankfully and now I don’t mind the noise as much.

I may or may not have a fear of growing older. I spend every day distracting myself from the passage of time and dread the approach of my brithday, but it used to be even worse. For a while, I refused to say "teenager" because I refused to be anything but a child. It's part of the reason I never learned any lige skills and still wear clothes from when I was 11 or 12. I used to cry about having birthdays or growing even a tiny bit taller. I also used to try to bind my chest and hyperextend my knees to look shorter and more childlike. Definitely a tough one, but even tougher now that I'm turning 20 this year. 💀😭

And since he has a general anxiety disorder along with ptsd, he is constantly checking in on his family (of all sorts) to make sure they're ok. In 6th, 7th, and the beginning of 8th grade, i had phobophobia, it wasnt extreme, but it did affect my life. At that time, i also would oftentimes feel like i was being watched without my knowledge or consent. I would be paralyzed thinking an old man was watching me through my window, or someone was watching my through my bed, or even as bizarre as having eyes on the walls, and it would only get worse because i was afraid. I had an extreme fear of being watched without my consent and a fear of fear. One of the most ironic parts is im a natural performer, from my mannerisms to the way i dress i cant help but perform, perferably for a crowd, but the moment someones watching me without my knowledge im paralyzed and cant breathe. It's gotten much better, but i had sleeping problems and constant headaches back then because of the two fears. Letting others see me scared was as more frightening than being stranded on an island with nothing to survive with

Casadastraphobia isn't just limited to the irrational fear of the sky falling down on you, it also includes the even more irrational fear that you, yourself, will fall into the sky; like gravity will just come undone if you look up into the clear blue sky. I'm speaking from personal experience here btw. I have no idea why, but every time I try to look into the sky, I feel as though I get vertigo, but in reverse. It's not a crippling fear though, because as long as I don't look too far up, I'm fine. Wide open spaces aren't an issue, but I won't try looking at birds or planes flying over me anytime soon...

I have nomophobia, but it isn't too severe. I can manage without it if needed, but if forcefully removed, than I start to get unstable. This actually stems from my way to leave the real world for just a split second, and live in a world where I can be me for the most part. My mobile device/s were pretty much my comforter and were also my teachers. Since it was what made me learn English, know simple facts, and it gave me small things to use as a way to cope with emotions. In a way, my phone is kinda like my coping mechanisms, escapism, and a form of entertainment at times.

Globophobe here!! Can confirm for me personally it’s the noise, or the unknown chance of noise. I have a fear of loud noises in general, but balloons are portrayed as being innocent and fun, and the fact that something so lighthearted can unexpectedly make a very loud and sudden noise makes them absolutely terrifying. This has stemmed into an overwhelming anxiety when even being in the same room as a balloon without any ear protection, but even with ear protection, if a balloon is near me I’m horrified and will do anything to get away from it. Such a strange phobia to think about, even stranger to have it!
