I don’t care about the sales people at perfume counters! I literally ignore them and smell whatever I want! Then I purchase them online at a cheaper price!

Bro...... I just had this same experience at Neiman Marcus last weekend. I went there to buy French defense by mind games and a replacement bottle of my now empty PDM Harod but I wanted to smell French Riviera and Roses Vanille by Mancera since they had them both. I asked the lady, since I'm buying two expensive fragrances can she maybe give me a sale price if I also bought the Roses Vanille? This lady had the Nerve to say to me that "this is Neiman Marcus Sweetie not the flee market" I said oh??? I that so?? You can go ahead and put all those back then because I'm gonna buy them somewhere where I'm not spoken down to while spending my hard earned money. She then told me she can give me 15 percent off the Mancera but I told her I didn't appreciate what she said to me and I refuse to give her commission from my sale. Jomashop got my money instead and it was way cheaper.

That's why I love Sephora so much. You go in there, find a new release, spray it on your skin, and no one seems to mind. I actually bought a fragrance from Sephora about a week ago in large part because they allow me to do this

I honestly didn't get into fragrances until I started to buy middle Eastern and online. the prices were more economical to try a variety of scent profiles and I often found myself steered toward feminine and floral perfumes or trying one or two fragrances at a time and spend a long time on them versus smelling multiple. I've discovered I enjoy a unisex and/or gourmond profile. it was a lot easier to do that alone or online than in-store

Not to mention they are ignorant to fragrances. I told a lady at Dillards I was wearing Delina and she said "never heard of it" huh. The same store somebody recommended TF "noyer" aka Noir. 🤦

I just use the perfume stores to smell the fragrance then straight away if I like it look online for the cheapest option, some stores are so expensive then you look at their online store they have discount codes etc, they need to match the prices the same at their online shops otherwise I don’t see in store perfume shops staying opening, they just prey on the newbies and offer them Dior Savauge 😂

This is one of the reasons why I’ll never walk into a Macys ever again. Had a similar situation. Wanted to test some fragrances the lady wouldn’t leave me alone and kept pushing. I said I don’t buy retail and just wanna test some out. Ended up getting into it with her about reformulations and she said that doesn’t exist lol I walked right out. Some of these places the reps go after the average consumer who’s got that fuck you money to drop. If I were in your shoes I’d tell them I guess I’ll drop $500-1000 elsewhere, byeeee 😂

I don’t think the stores understand collectors . Most people walk in once or twice a year and smell one or two then immediately buy and leave . Collectors take our time and often times don’t buy. My local Sephora knows me but if I walk into another to see if something has dropped , they’ll try to show me Myself . I have to explain that I literally own EVERY frag on their shelve and was looking ONLY for the new one

I agree. Depends on the salesperson. Ive had rude ones who wouldn't give or make me any samples, and ive had good ones who go above and beyond giving samples. Even though i buy 95% online, I would literally over spend and give the good ones the sale. Because i dont go into Dillard's often, the generous sales lady isnt usually there when i go back, but the rude one seems to always be there.

It's because people are stealing the testers. During the holidays I actually watched 2 people steal Creed testers at Nordstrom while I was shopping. The salesman said it happens every day.
@Paulguynj
@Paulguynj 6 күн бұрын
But that's no excuse for rude service because testers get stolen They don't pay for the testers and they get them by the dozens. I know this because I used to sell fragrances..So, they shouldn't be worried about testers being stolen. I never did and it happened numerous times daily..There's no shrinkage off their back either if a tester is stolen and technically it's not theft because it's not for sale. Our LP told us by law there's nothing they can do about it.

I visited a mall in Dubai to try out some perfumes without any intention of buying. I informed the sales representative beforehand, but he still offered me test strips with scents like Creed Aventus, Aventus Absolu, and Tom Ford. After a while, I started feeling shy and decided to leave the store.

Those sales associates are strictly hired for their sales experience resume only and usually know nothing about fragrances. The rare occasion I run into ones that know fragrances well are also the best to deal with; and without any high pressure sales tactics. The vast majority may be good at sales, but rarely know anything about fragrances. I've learned never to bother asking them about anything because I know way more then they do. 😂😂I tell them right away I'm fragrance hobbyist and they usually leave me alone (except for the ones who have good fragrance knowledge) because they know there's nothing they can do to sell you anything when you know more than they do! They also somehow know we're the least likely to buy anything in the store if we're a fraghead. So, they disappear quickly. 😂😂

In my country, they don't allow you to try fragrances on your own. A worker always has to spray it for you, and when they do spray it, it's barely half a spray, literally. That's why I prefer to get my own samples. I can spray as much and as many times as I want.

Neeb, that’s a shame. Where I live (south Louisiana) and shop. I have good relationships with several of the sales reps and house reps. I tell them up front I wanna try a certain few and if something really catches me, I’ll put it on skin. I also ask for carded samples to try out higher dollar frags to see if I really wanna spend the $$. I buy decants of frags not readily accessible at Macy’s/Ulta/Dillards/Sephora.

I went to that same mall for the first time on Friday. It’s about an hour drive, but close to my new car dealership so this was the first time I got to experience niche frags without buying samples. I visited Neiman Marcus this sales rep latched onto my girlfriend and followed us through the whole fragrance area, literally on our shoulder the whole time. I had a list of things I haven’t smelled yet that I came to check out and we were constantly pressured into smelling other frags. We just decided to leave bad experience…

My 2 experiences at Neiman Marcus were surprisingly pleasant and I did a lot of sniffing with decent employees. The Dior rep was first to tell me about DHP release and it scared the hell out of me. Should’ve backed it up immediately! But today at Macy’s I was bombarded with workers trying to help me with stuff I didn’t want to smell. I know what I’m looking for and am willing to listen but they were so overbearing, I just left. Never seen it like that before.
