The narrative of “it’s impossible for Amber to get the upper hand on Dewey” conversation is funny because I worked in a psychiatric hospital and I’ve seen girls smaller than Amber overpower several security guards at once based on adrenaline alone.
@GetWellSoonR.E.M.
@GetWellSoonR.E.M. Жыл бұрын
THAT PART! There’s also documented evidence of tiny girls brutally killing men twice their size the way Amber killed Dewey, if not even worse. Adrenaline is one hell of a drug and especially when your life is in danger or when you’re intent on hurting somebody, you WILL cause some crazy injuries. They clearly haven’t seen some tiny high school girls fight, because many of them REALLY badly injure the person they’re fighting. I’ve seen girls fight people and rip out eyeballs and cause critical injuries.

Yes, you're right. And generally I think the realism of adolescents killing fully grown people or dragging lifeless bodies around can just be solved by suspension of disbelief. I in my mind always justify it by the killers having taken some enhancing drugs. Then I leave it for what it is.

@@daveh1065 Ghostface’s height has almost never matched the actors. In the original Scream, the stuntman playing GF was 6’0. Skeet Ulrich is 6’1. Matthew Lillard is 6’4. In Scream 2022, the stuntman in costume is 5’9. Mikey Madison is 5’3. Jack Quaid is 6’2. Also, if you’re gonna have this issue, the same stuntman for Scream 1996 played GF again in Scream 2, where Laurie Metcalf was a killer, and she’s 5’4 😂 nobody ever complains about her

Agreed! We need to see deaths that make people sick to their stomach to watch because of how brutal they are or see extremely elaborate set pieces that are a spectacle. We haven’t seen that in Scream in a long time. Scream 5 was the last time we got attacks that were super brutal. I think Tara, Judy, and Chad’s attacks were the most gruesome and brutal in the last movie. The repeated shanking is super brutal, and I wanna see more of that, but have it go on for longer in the new movie.

there was a more violent version of randy’s death. wes craven planned for it to be the way it is seen in the movie. but because of the difficulties with the mpaa in the first movie, they shot it to be overtly graphic on purpose so that when wes sent the full version of the scene to the mpaa, they would tell him that he needed to cut it down. but it backfired because the mpaa liked it. they said that the death being so violent in a college setting could be social commentary

I have seen this debate so many times but Amber never overpowered Dewey. Dewey overpowered Amber. If people watched the scene properly and observed it carefully she didn’t even get a lethal hit or attack off him and he took her down with ease. She countered him and caught him off guard when Gale called him as he was about to finish her off. People are also forgetting about adrenaline? Knowing that Dewey has survived this situation 4 times would definitely intimidate her in the slightest. I think it’s perfectly fine to me and I don’t mind Amber killing Dewey at all.

I think the Christine and Cotton kills should be higher on the list. I think scream 3 is the worst scream movie by far but its mainly because the opening scene worked so well building up to something then the rest of the movie fell flat. Christines fear and believing Cotton is attacking her', knocking out Cotton who was really her only protection only to get stabbed from behind by the actual attacker, and Cottons urgency to save her just to be hit by her leaving him at a disadvantage fighting Ghostface and ultimately leading to his death theres so much tragedy in this scene with two lovers ultimately being the cause of each others death and the psychological warfare and manipulation Ghostface uses to lure them both in my opinion it was way more effective than Scream 2's opening kills i think Jadas acting in 2 was way too over the top which made the scene kinda cheesy and the whole killing people with former victims names ultimately lead to nothing. So i would put scream 2's opening kills lower on the list as well.

Awesome effort, Zack! I love the specific attention to detail you use in your ranking. I disagree with your placements for Tom Prinze (his death was the highlight of 3 for me) and Olivia (I found it simultaneously over-the-top and indifferent - she's getting savaged beyond recognition, but she isn't even the central character in her own death - the other players get more attention). Aside from that, I thought this was completely spot on and I loved watching from start to finish. Thanks again for the excellent Scream content!

Spoilers for Scream 6 I love how Sam's killer instinct is shown when she's taking out the killers, it's so overkill, the 22 stabs for Richie in 5 and the 32 stabs for his dad in 6 was so interesting and I love the way she turns the tables on the killer in 6, calling back to when Sidney did it in 1 and the textual callback to her biological father Billy Loomis. I have totally just rewatched those scenes because they're so good.

i put Kenny in top tier BECAUSE of what we see after the kill yk? So much blood when Gale gets into the car, I havent seen that much blood in the franchise until Scream 4 with Olivia which speaks volumes. And the cherry on top is him being thrown off the van. It isnt so much the kill itself but its the reveal

My Top 5 favorite kills: 1. Dewey Riley - I know his death gets a lot of flak. People think he died being stupid. I disagree. I think he was careless, but he always has been. The reason I like this kill the most is because he's a character that I truly care about. He's been in 5 films and I grew to really love his character (making his death more impactful). I also enjoy the lines "Not today", "Yes, today", and "It's an honor". It also looked really cool and bloody. I also personally enjoyed the build up and that he went out a hero (protecting someone's sister when he couldn't protect his own). 2. Randy Meeks - His death was my favorite until Dewey. He's my favorite character and, therefore, has the most emotional impact for me. 3. Cotton Weary - I just really enjoy his whole scene. I love the killer's final line "It was a simple game, Cotton. You should've told me where Sidney was. Now... you lose." *knife to the face* (He's definitely stabbed in the face. If you actually go frame-by-frame, the very last moment before the title card shows the killer's hand right over Cotton's face. Also, Cotton's head goes back as if he's been stabbed in the head.) 4. Casey Becker - Purely for how iconic it is. It sets the tone for the rest of the film. It was genuinely scary and suspenseful. It was also quite bloody. 5. Olivia Morris - Honestly, it's just for how brutal the kill is and for how gory it was. I am hoping there are deaths in Scream 6 that can out do this one. The reason Jill's death seems unfinished is because it is. Craven purposely left it open for her to return. I'm not saying she will, but he wanted the ability to bring her back. That's why she's shot in the chest rather than the head. Also why she's moving in the final shot of the film. Craven discusses this with Emma Roberts on the commentary.

Thank you. Everything about Dewey’s death was done perfectly. The smile as he sees Gale. 💔 The lines from Ghostface as well are even better when you know Amber and Richie were fans.

@@Joker_JAK They can actually use that. Jill being the manipulator in making a cult that will go after the survivors. But I do think they should being her back(if they want) when sidney returns.

I'm less so mad about Amber being able to kill Dewey, and more annoyed that they chose to write Dewey as if he never learned his lesson from what happened to him in Scream 1 and 2. It's clear that he isn't a hero and can't handle this shit on his own, and yet he willingly throws himself like a lemming at it. It just makes it look like he was really just gambling the whole time and finally lost, which I feel is poor writing. I feel like if Richie had been the one to do it (by just getting the drop on him), or if they'd killed him after they were revealed to be the killers (in an almost Randy getting shot sort of way) it would have been better. That's just my opinion though.

The kill scene for Jennifer’s security guard was not practical. He could not have made the phone call in the trailer (in close proximity) with the security guard. Always wondered if the movie original intent was to have two killers.

Tom Prince was so bad I wrote Scream 3 off completely and didn't rewatch it again til very recently, in retrospect the film is fairly good but that is probably the worst kill in any horror film, even the worst Final Destination kill would call it contrived.
