I bought my first 1/2 side of beef. The bucher was happy to make sure I got all my suet = that's what fat us called. We rendered it put it in trays let it cool then put it in deep freezer. We fry chicken mostly w it and we still have half of our 20 lbs of suet left. Chicken fried ( no batter) just fried in beef fat is the most amazing flavor. Another thing is you can cook up to four batches before discarding it so it last a long time as opposed to seed oils that go rancid after one or two uses. Our next cow is going to be ready next spring I see him every morning grazing in the pasture down the road. I named him hamburger, he's so cute.

Good luck finding it. It's not easy to find. Some butcher shops have tallow. I have never ever seen it in a regular supermarket. Whole Foods sometimes has it if available from Epic. Smoking scared me as a child, because I only heard smokers cough on a regular basis and the sound of their coughing was so scary. They also often had flem that rattled with a scary sound and it looked scary too because they could be in the middle of a sentence and then be ”thrown” into a coughing session that they couldn’t control. Thankfully they were all honest when I asked them, as a child, why they coughed like that ”it’s because I smoke”. I still tried smoking in my early 20s at a party, and I genuinly believe that keeping away from smoking as a child (teen years), truly helped keep me from becoming a smoker. In my early 20s it just felt silly to pick up a smoking habit, so after I had tried it I stayed away.

@@mantizshrimp @mantizshrimp I noticed that too, but I wasn't going to mention it because it was pretty obvious what the OP was talking about, given the context here... But to answer your question; NO, they are NOT the same thing, because shortening is what this video mentions and is being referred to here in this thread, and it is a "food" product. (Not really, but it's technically edible) Shortening can also refer to the "making shorter" of something, referring to the length of it. Whereas the word shorting refers to an electrical connection, which in most cases is usually bad, but in any case it has a TOTALLY different meaning than shortening! This is why it's VERY important to actually proofread your comments as they're being typed out in order to make sure they're correct before actually posting them, because oftentimes your phone's "autocorrect" (auto INCORRECT is what I call it, lol!), will totally ruin what you're trying to say, especially if you don't pay attention or you're in too much of a hurry!

This is the perfect example of running so far from one problem you run into several more. The cancer causing chemical in cigarettes found in seed oils are only in seed oils because they are heated past their smoking point. Cold pressed plant oils (sunflower, safflower, peanut, palm kernel, olive, avocado, coconut) that are never heated past their smoking point while cooking are perfectly safe to eat in moderation. ALL FAT should be eaten in moderation, with the exception of sources of DHEA and EPA. Reason being, your body will make fat from carbs and protein not utilized, but is incapable of making the quantities of DHEA and EPA fast enough to meet your daily needs. You need carbs, full stop. 25% of the calories you eat in a day will be used by your brain as glucose. Fat and protein can be converted to glucose at the expense of your liver and kidneys. You can develop pathologies from not consuming enough carbs. Carbs should come from whole grains, not from things made with whole grains. Oat and buckwheat groats, rice, and millet have been staples of the human diet for millennia. Macrobiotics takes an anthropological and scientific look at the healthiest patterns of human diet over the last 2000 years. 50-60% of the volume of your food should be whole grains. 20-30% vegetables, 10% plant protein (nuts, seeds, beans, legumes). 5-10% animal products. It's not adding up to 100% because people will need to individualize their intakes. It is intended to set reasonable thresholds. This distribution is exemplified in the macrobiotic pie chart, and has been what humans have adapted to eating healthily after agriculture reshaped the trajectory of human evolution. Unless you have a genetic disorder where you cannot produce the enzymes to properly digest a certain food, there is no reason to avoid, for instance, all grains or all animal products. There are still large companies who will benefit from you following the poor advice from this recent surge of catastrophizing. While you are susceptible to the fear of the current problem, there is a large group of people over-correcting and driving everyone into new problems that will make large companies money when you have to treat illnesses down the road caused by this bad advice.

I quit smoking cigarettes July 27, 2007, cold turkey. I had smoked since 1969. I was homeless, living at a shelter in Panchatoula, La. when I discovered possible employment with Trinity Marine as a certified welder. The shipyard, however, was 21 miles from where I was staying, and I had no transportation. My only possessions were my clothes, welding gear, and an acoustic guitar. A person also staying there had a 15-speed bicycle which he offered in exchange for my guitar. The next day after our exchange I rode with my welding gear in my backpack 21 miles E on hwy 21 to Trinity Marine in Mandeville. I had two separate physicals to take. One 4 miles E of the shipyard and the other in Hammond. Upon completion of that goal I had rode my bicycle 205 miles total. I confirmed that distance with a friend in his truck. The nurse there at the shelter and the primary physical Dr had my temp at 101°F advised I not go there. I arrived there anyway in less than 2 hrs. "Starve a Cold. Feed a Fever"

The only good thing about seed oils is that they’re parve & cheaper than the actually healthy olive & coconut oil. Yeah, it’s better to use the cold pressed stuff.

Where I work we roast real beef for our sandwiches, so we order in huge roasts, trim them and cut into smaller roasts. I take the beef fat trimmings home and render them down into tallow😊

Swap unpasteurized dairy with animal fats. Animal fats are healthier and many people have dairy intolerances. Pasteurized dairy then drops down to the fruit level because it becomes sugar with some nutrition.

And this is why diabetes is such a problem. Not to mention grains make up the majority of GMOs. But now there's little escape because even the animals are being fed GMOs meaning our food supply is totally tainted. Non GMO and organic is so expensive, it's literally a system meant to fail us!

Just rendered tallow from the fat trimmings off of an eye of round roast. Got 1/2 cup of tallow. Cooked the fat trimmings in a pot on stove top with heat at 1 to 1.25 out of ten for 2 hours.

@ 5:25 minutes into it ; Grain's 🌾 are the 1st ingredient on the food pyramid... It reminds me of the movie called "Soylent Green" with Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson. Released in 1973. A nightmarish futuristic dystopian thriller about the controlling power about big corporations and the staple food the population was given to eat. It was set in the year 2022. (remember this came out in 1973) How Ironic 😮

I've hated veggies since I was a kid. The only ever veggies I ate were mushrooms but even then, only sparringly. I've LOVED meat since I was a kid, heavy meat-eater since I was very little and always try to remain physically active - I love taking walks on warm sunny days in forests away from society during my off-days. I hate sweets, I hate coffee, I hate tea, I hate sodas, I hate artificial sweeteners, even donuts, but since I'm Asian, rice is a staple in my diet, but meat has always been a majority of my diet. There's only one thing I drink as beverage and refreshment - WATER. I do drink milk and juices occasionally, but 95% of my beverage is always just WATER. If there's one thing universally-agreed by all nutritionists and medical professionals - it's that excessive SUGARS are BAD for you, and that's true. People around me always tell me that I will die early and will get fat, at risk of heart attack, and even cancer because of my lifestyle and diet. Never listened to them and I'm glad I didn't. I'm 33 now, and have never suffered serious health condition other than the occasional colds or flu. My father, mother and younger sister are all overweight and are all pre-diabetics and have a myriad of health issues while my BMI is normal and my body still feels like that of a young teenager. It honestly feels like I'm aging in reverse! My father LOVES to eat bread, my mother loves sweets and vegetables, my sister hates meat and loves salads and junk foods. I'm now sharing my best practices towards them and I'm glad they're opened-minded enough to listen to me. I advised them to completely lower their diet of carbs and sugar, increase their intake of meats and eggs, and completely cut off junk foods like chips. My mother who has diabetes started to cut off sugar weeks ago (like coffee) and immediately started seeing improvements on her health and lost a few pounds. If she keeps this up, I hope she reverses her diabetes like other people helped by the amazing doctors like Ken Berry and Shawn Baker. My younger sister did the same and started to cut off too much sugars and eliminated junk foods and then started exercising, she also lost a few pounds in just a few weeks. I told them to only drink water if they are feeling thirsty and completely avoid sodas and such. told them to continue doing it. Whatever makes your body feel good, CONTINUE DOING IT. Now I hope I can convince my father too!

I've stayed away from seed oils for most of my life. I'm extremely fortunate to have learned how to cook at a young age. I'm also fortunate that my Mom, & her Mom knew how to season & cook vegetables, so I've always had a good relationship with vegetables. For the most part, I've stuck to using bacon grease, beef tallow, & butter ever since I learned how to cook as a child. I still had fast food occasionally since I was a minor after all. But even as a teenager, I was always suspicious of Fast food altogether. Now that I'm in my mid 40's, I have no regrets actively avoiding fast food & processed food. I've only gained 12lbs. since I was 18 with little to no regular exercise(Though I admit, I still need to start working out). It was worth the extra time & effort to plan out & cook my own meals.

Don't blame McDonald's for this. They were forced into using seed oil by vegetarian complaints. They used beef tallow into the 90s. Complaints pressured them into changing.
