great music. you are so artistic! thank you for the information. i plan to buy one sm58 for my son to use in his zoom mtgs ( to improve his business presentation image). my questions are 1. can this mic provide better vocal image (such as enhancing baritone ?) 2. what is the brand and model number of that recording device you showed @9:25? TIA, thx very much

This was a great video, this was super helpful and told me where to spend my money for making DIY instructional videos where I will do voice overs and talk to the camera in combination. Cheers mate.

Thanks for this great video! One element I am unsure about is which gear works best in a non-studio environment. You mentioned that the dynamic mics would pick up less room noise but what are some suggestions for someone who is working from home in regular untreated spaces? Would it come down to a shotgun mic (to get it out of video frame) vs a dynamic mic (most likely will have to be visible in video)? I appreciate your time!

Hey! So yep, even outdoors either go shotgun mic if you need it a few ft away from the audio source and regular dynamic mic if you can have it less than 1ft from the audio source. NEVER use a condenser mic outdoors

What’s the best mic for a conference/keynote speaker in a conference/hotel/ live audience/ environment where each speaker has a headset condenser mic? Could you just use shotguns for ambient sound and dr10l on the keynote speaker?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras Жыл бұрын
For a speaker, you will definitely want to lav mic the speaker. Then either record the signal from the sound board if they are using live sound or setup a 2nd mic. Either the DJI Mic with a lav (that allows you to monitor it wirelessly) or a DR10L if you don't need to monitor the sound

@@learningcameras Thank you for the info! For the second mic, if let’s say the sound technician rejects my request to connect to the board, would an xy condenser cardioid mic closer to the speakers work better than a second lav as an alternative? Or would this cause the recorder to clip?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras Жыл бұрын
@@mmaged2287 So a cardioid mic will pick up everything so use that if you want to capture the "feels and sounds of the stage" or something like that. Sometimes that's useful at concerts. But for speaking conferences, usually I would just use some form of a Lav mic or a handheld wireless dynamic mic if the speaker doesn't mind holding a mic

@@learningcameras Thank you for the info! The conference is going to have 100-150 people in attendance and the client is requesting shots of the audience. I thought maybe a xy cardioid or omni directional mic would make the most sense. Thanks again!

Sorry Dan but your info is invalid. The condenser mic you showed in the video is the blue yeti which has different sound patterns for canceling out certain areas of noise. One pattern is all around, one pattern is directly in front, one pattern is front and back, and one is left and right aka stereo. Also the blue yeti is not the only condenser mic with sound patterns there are plenty other condenser mics that have sound patterns similar to the yeti, and while yes they are a bit pricy, you telling people that condenser microphones only pick up everything is giving people false information. While I’m not trying to send any hate your way, all I’m saying is please dig a little deeper before you go talking about a subject you don’t know much about.
@learningcameras

So obviously (or so I thought) a condenser mic could be isolated inside of the housing or use software to cancel noise in certain directions but that is not really a component of the mic itself and more of a component of the "product' i.e. the Blue Yeti. Either way condenser mics tend to still pick up sounds located further away from the mic than a dynamic mic and thus more room noise. Again, if you are in a perfectly treated room without unwanted sounds bleeding in (music studio), condensers are usually better choices but I find in normal spaces with unwanted noise or less sound treatment they pick up too much unwanted noise compared to dynamic mics which is one reason dynamic mics are preferred for stage/live performances. So I will maintain that condenser mics tend to pick up more than dynamic mics and that this is NOT false information and I have a background in music production so this is a subject I'm trained in, but I will agree that certain products that contain condenser mics (like the blue yeti) may use software or hardware to offer different sound patterns or alter the typical behavior of a condenser mic
