asteroid city is definetly the most personal and enriching story wes anderson has made so far. maybe not as personal as the Royal Tenebaums but for me Asteroid City is one of his best of all time.

The more I've thought about it the more I wished I'd ranked Asteroid City a bit higher. I was trying to avoid recency bias but it's not really a bias if the recent thing is actually really great!

We can't all agree on the ranking of Wes Anderson films but we can agree he is a diamond in the rough of Hollywood P.S The Grand Budapest is also my favourite of his and I rank the french dispatch higher tha you did but I agree Isle of dogs is my lowest ranked movie but it's still a good movie though

I think one of the great things about Wes' films is that they all affect different people in different ways

Great list. I'd mostly agree with your list though I'd possibly swap 'The Darjeeling Limited' and 'Asteroid City'. My favourite is definitely 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' which is one of my favourite films ever. How can a film so amazingly funny also punch you in the emotions like that?

Grand Budapest is definitely peak Anderson, the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy. I need to watch Asteroid City again! I tried to avoid recency bias with the ranking but I really enjoyed Asteroid City. If I watch it again I might bump it up the list!

I agree with your list, but I would have ranked Fantastic Mr. Fox a lot lower and Asteroid City city higher. I think at the core of a lot of Wes Anderon's films is he takes a very complex emotion that can be difficult to describe and tries to build a movie around that. Darjeeling Limited for example feels like a story about the emotion of dealing with grief similar to death even though that person may still be alive and right in front of us. Life Aquatic is about the transition of time and the realization that we all become irrelevant, no matter how great. Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr. Fox had none of that, or at least none that I felt or saw.

To me Fantastic Mr. Fox is about the sacrifices you have to make when you start a family and how hard it is to stick to those sacrifices

@@igottouchedatthecinema I never considered that, thank you! I'm going to re-watch with that in mind and see if it improves it for me.
