NO! Never EVER paste something directly from a webpage into PowerShell or Command Prompt. ALWAYS paste into something like notepad first to make sure the webpage didn't add malicious stuff into the clipboard.

Hmm interesting, haven't thought of that tbh.
@spacecadet48765 ай бұрын
I've used that technique for years. Notepad strips special characters, etc. plus right click paste text only.
@antivanti5 ай бұрын
@@spacecadet4876 Yeah and also web pages can change what gets put into the clipboard, as you know if you'd tried to copy song lyrics from some webpages. It can add some fishy extra commands and even an Enter. And pasting into notepad gives you a chance to see that what is in the clipboard is actually what was on the webpage. Also you should then copy from notepad before actually pasting into CLI. Tho in this case you're also running a utility as Admin directly from the website so if you don't trust the website you shouldn't trust the tool itself either. But websites getting pwned and having malicious things injected by 3rd parties is a thing that happens.

If you dont mind I would like to ask some questions. I have been reading so many articles with regards to getting an absolutely clean experience with a Win10 installation but theres quite a bit of information. So one option that I know is creating an unattended file and place it in the original Win10 iso and install that, and that seems to remove majority of the bloatware but when it updates, some of the bloat comes back it seems. Another option is in this video, installing Win10 and then using the CTT to debloat the OS. Which would be a better method?

That's the reason why I've opted to not tweak windows anymore. However, for those that do want to tweak with it, this was a very clear, very practical video. Alas, it appears that the user does not have any control if the utility installs any other script or even executable, which to me might represent a severe security breach.

I'm sorry but, this is throwing off all kinds of security red flags. Just because nothing is downloaded to your computer doesn't mean squat. Imagine if the tool is hacked where it resides centrally and now everyone who uses it automatically has the hacked code running on their computer if they run this. This is a huge yikes. That's not hate, that's common sense and IT security/safety. You want an actual useful powershell command? Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Restricted
@lussor15 ай бұрын
Github being hacked you say
@fyrestorme5 ай бұрын
@@lussor1 Yes, that would be very bad. And we have already seen instances of supply chain corruption in libraries and tooling used in central repositories. A really good example of that is the ms powershell repository. You can even spoof official scripts or make it look like you own them when you don't.

Word of caution: the tool doesn't directly mention it, but CT personally dislikes Win Defender and therefore the tool will disable and isolate it (can't be reactivated). The script doesn't offer an exception or revert option.

Windows 11 is the reason I switched to an Apple environment. Still using Win 10 on a PC for gaming shenanigans but regular work is just a pain in the neck on a Windows machine nowadays
@RedaHaskouri5 ай бұрын
In 2025, there are still people using the Windows operating system. I can't understand how people can be so naive to use such a slow, terrible system that spies on users and is paid, not free. It has many issues, such as sudden crashes, black screens, blue screens, and more. On the other hand, there's Linux, which is incredibly powerful and secure, free forever, and respects your privacy. It offers complete freedom and customization. It's safe, and you can do anything you want with it. Nowadays, you can even play major video games on Linux without any issues, including playing Steam games smoothly. You can also perform tasks like video editing, design, 3D modeling, and graphics work easily and seamlessly without any problems. For newcomers to Linux, there's a great distribution called Linux Mint. It's powerful, lightweight, and has a user interface similar to Windows, making it easy for any beginner or new user coming from Windows to transition seamlessly.

I think everyone agrees windows is a trash OS but they use it cause it was more support and apps than what Linux does for example adobe apps, other 3D modelling apps like maya and etc

Linux is bad for gaming. And for a os that is all about freedom is too dependent on valve for gaming. You get much more gaming freedom in windows.

Calling people naive because they use windows is complete ignorance, or maybe insulting arrogance. If you are happy with Linux, good for you. But those who use Windows do it for reasons other than naivety.

I've used the CTT script on my old laptop that came with 8 but I upgraded to 10, it really lagged during boot and was using a lot of cpu for like minutes after booting, like barely usable. I ran this script, probably most of it came from the switching processes to manual option, but now it runs smooth enough to actually be usable.
@memstechtips5 ай бұрын
Yes it makes a huge difference. From my testing it's not just the services that makes the process count lower. The other tweaks also have an influence on that.
