This is an apples to oranges comparison. If you’re looking for a station wagon to haul your kids to their soccer games, get a Model X. If you want an adventure vehicle that has a lot of versatility to haul gear, R1S wins. The Model X can haul anything overhead, obviously, so that’s a major drawback if you’re looking to go on a long road trip, camping with bikes or a kayak. I own both, so I have some first hand experience. I actually prefer some aspects of Tesla over Rivian. The motors are soother and quieter with Tesla. The Tesla operating system and driving autonomy is years ahead of Rivian, obviously. If you live 5 hours from the nearest Rivian service center, I’d advise you to not buy one unless you don’t mind taking a PTO day just to drop it off. I’ve had to take my R1S 4 times to service. Fortunately I live only 2 hours from Normal.

I hope the next generation revamped the suspension system because the suspension system on my 2023 R1S failed the very first day I got it. While proudly showing the car to my friends, a sudden puff of air erupted, and we watched in disbelief as the front of the vehicle dropped so low that the frame nearly touched the front wheels. Rivian towed the car, and it was repaired within a few days. However, a year and 21,000 miles later, the same issue happened again-this time while driving on the freeway. I had to pull over and fortunately live near a service center in Costa Mesa. The car was towed again, but with this problem recurring within a year, I strongly suspect a significant flaw in the suspension system. I’m relieved this didn’t occur during a mountain ski trip or a desert adventure, as Rivian markets the vehicle for. Now, I hesitate to drive the R1S far from home due to fear of another breakdown. The vehicle has been sitting at the service center for days without being examined. Despite multiple calls, I’ve only been told that the shop is backed up and they’ll get to it when they can. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Rivian needs to expand its network of service centers to better address the flood of issues reported by its customers.

@claeslind9532 I'm pretty torn on which vehicle I'll get next. I'll probably keep rolling with my model y camper for the next year or so then make up my mind later.
@claeslind9532Ай бұрын
@@tonydeveyra4611 Yeah don’t know much about the cyber truck but I would say that one is more compatible to the r1t. So yeah I need space and I want to camp too, the r1s has more space for all that, even the fronk, for camping the r1s has a 110 V outlet, the Tesla’s don’t, so you can use the cars battery for any devices, and battery for the R1s is 140 kWh compared to the X of only well not only, still good for an EV but 100 is Tesla’s max. 40 more is huge, you can spend more days bondoking with the AC full blast for example. Then the versatility of raising the suspension for off-road or lower for normal use. Also now with gen 2 the cameras are better and the computes are 10 more powerful than previous gen 1, also if you get the gen 2 rivian r1s it has better cameras and the upgraded equipment to handle fully autonomous self driving update over the air(comping from a spokesperson of rivian) you can also charge at Tesla’s superchargers. Build quality is better. All this makes it easy for me. I really like Tesla’s technology especially the fully self driving feature and how good it is but the benefits of the rivian is just better.
@tonydeveyra4611Ай бұрын
@@claeslind9532 the Cybertruck has a far better air suspension than the R1 platform. It operates much more smoothly, raises and lowers faster, and I think it's mainly because it operates on that 48v architecture. Cybertruck also has 4 wheel steering, which makes it more maneuverable and drive like a smaller car, able to get into tighter spaces than the R1s. It also has both 110v and 220v. Cybertruck battery pack is 123kWh, I believe, and its a lot more efficient than the R1s, with regard to wh/mi. that said, I have had my Model Y for 3 years now. IN that time, my wife and I have probably spent three months or so total living in it during our longer camping trips. It's been great. I do wish it had a 110v outlet, but leaning on a portable battery (that recharges with the 12V cigarette lighter outlet) works well enough, and provides portable power too as an upside. We have a hitch rack cargo carrier to hold more stuff. Great platform overall for car camping, would recommend it. If Rivian were to ever license FSD from Tesla and run it on the R1S...that would change my calculations a lot. It becomes a far more attractive vehicle. And yeah, while the R1S is compatible with some superchargers at this point...seeing Chris' videos of actually plugging the R1S in at superchargers...it honestly seems kinda crappy compared to my experience with the Model Y right now.

Important Note: Rivian is struggling just to make a profit. Even with the (contingent) VW cash injection, Rivian is fighting for its life. Therefore, the long-term support is very much in question (just ask Fisker owners).

Rivian won’t fit in my garage.

Tesla insurance is garbage….service sucks…but worst of all….Elon likes to drop prices whenever he feels like it. Good luck buying it and it holding any value. My model S refreshed I lost $25k just like that. Now I’m buried in the car cuz the value is so low. What car company drops prices like that? 🤡🤡🤡

Don't put your loved ones in any EV . They're extremely Dangerous, no matter what the manufacturers say. They'll say anything to make a sale

Anyone who is considering a Rivian needs to look at their financial balance sheet. They are losing 32k per vehicle, in 2022 their stock price was 122.00, now it is 14.00. Their ROE is -35%, ROE is -62%, ROI is -45%, gross margin is -37%.oper margin is -116%, profit margin is-115%. This should scare anyone from buying one If you understand this it is saying Rivian will not exist within 18 months. Prob less. Even Elon said if they cant turn it around they will not exist. When the dust settles there might be 2 EV companies. Tesla will be one.

Rivian are not compatible with the older V2 (150kw) superchargers. So the SC station 10 minutes from my house is incompatible. This can be somewhat of a problem if I’m traveling to a remote area and the only Tesla SC in the nearest 90 miles is the V2.

How is Tesla losing. They are making money. Rivian is burning cash with no end in sight!

Rivian has a terrible/barely existing service and charging network. Good luck finding service center near you!

Depends on the area. I’m in Salt Lake and they’re great and now they can use the supercharger network 🤷🏻

You do know that Rivian can access the Tesla supercharger network yeah ?

Rivian can use all networks...including Tesla. Why would charging be an issue ?
