What I love about BDG's voice is how one second he sounds like the endearing shy contestant at a talent show one moment and then an R&B god the next. LYRICS [Chorus] Keep it quick, say it brief If it's fast, it will be a relief Short on time- that's a gift Count your seconds, and they'll catch the drift [Verse 1] Disparate parts, desperate hearts Pulled through a sieve Hand me a chart, so I know how to start to say "This is all I can give" To summarize seems incomplete How novel is a novel, that can fit on one sheet It seems that I'm destined to fail To compress myself to the size of a thumbnail [Chorus] Keep it quick, say it brief If it's fast, it will be a relief Short on time- that's a gift Count your seconds, and they'll catch the drift [Post-Chorus] Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the - [Verse 2] Don't like what's revealed here When your depth of field's near, it's hard to come close Chip stones from the boulder Suddenly, my vulnerability shows Ooh! You can crop and trim, 'till all that's left Is the essence of a presence that is feeling bereft Of a guard in just the gist of a tale That is less of an image, and more of a thumbnail [Chorus] Keep it quick, say it brief If it's fast, it will be a relief Short on time- that's a gift Count your seconds, and they'll catch the drift [Post-Chorus] Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift Na na na, na na They'll catch the drift

Your music always has a bit of a jazzy feel to it, what scales and/or chords do you usually use?
@Gr4pefru1t6 жыл бұрын
it's the prevalent use of extended 7th chords and secondary dominants that gives it harmonic association with the jazz genre. He's singing mainly in Aeolian/Ionian (the relative modes of Amin and Cmaj respectively), which is common for most "pop/popular" songs. These two modes are treated as the basis for teaching/learning music, as they feel the most "stable" harmonically
@nathancraig47106 жыл бұрын
Gr4pefru1t I’m bad at hearing chords so thank you!
@thischannelhasnocontent86296 жыл бұрын
It's basically a standard pop song, but with more frequent chord changes, slightly weird harmonization, and big extensions. Makes it super catchy while also maintaining that jazzy feel.

My interpretation of what this song feels like: The singer feels like he needs to tell an amazing person something complex and intricate that he feels, but he hasn't the ability nor the time to do handle things well enough for him to be satisfied that he did a good enough job. A time limit forces him to do a substandard job, but it's over with and out there, which is why it's a blessing that seems so paradoxical. Anyway, after finally revealing himself, he feels inadequate in comparison to the person he feels for. Small parts of his personality may be admirable, but the whole picture of him is much worse than any random point. He struggles knowing that he loves someone amazing who has no reason love him back. He loves, but thinks himself undeserving of love. That is why he a quick rejection is a relief: he already knows the reasons so they need not be said out loud.
