I disagree (mostly) with your view of the gear order. Although a reasonable argument can be made regarding the proper placement of Park (above, below, or-my personal preference-beside DNR), the proper positions for Drive, Neutral, and Reverse are objectively correct in this vehicle for the following reasons: (a) Drive means forward, so it should be in the most forward position (i.e., top/front); (b) Reverse means rearward, so it should be in the most rearward position (i.e., bottom/rear); and (c) Neutral is neither forward nor reverse, so it should be between them. I have always been baffled by the normal and quite illogical traditional order of PRND because it is counter-intuitive to move a gear shift forward from Drive to put a vehicle in Reverse, and vice versa. In short, each gear control should be ordered to reflect the desired direction of the vehicle.
@EverydayReviews2022
@EverydayReviews2022 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with your disagree lol. Yes it makes sense but when PRND is what you’ve been used to for decades, pretty hard to brake the habit. Just like the Hyundai Ionia which has buttons as well where drive is on the left and reverse is on the right. Appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Great looking EV. However, I do feel that this is a car that Jaguar, could have and should have built 10 years ago. No autopilot, no tri-phase charging and only 350km out of a 90kw battery. I’ve driven it and it has a great SUV like drive and feeling to it. Big problem is its drive train. Yes it’s powerful and fast, but it’s jerky and unrefined. The Ionic does a better job, as does a Tesla. It’s biggest problem? The price, in Australia it’s $135k for the base model drive away. Jaguar and other mainstream should have started building these cars 10 years ago, instead of banking and servicing the fuel industry. That’s my major gripe with it.
@AKA001

@@Simmonique the way the iPace handles it its power is years away from the way Tesla does it. A modern 90kwh battery in the iPace's size car should go well beyond 450km, not get stuck at 300, maybe 350kms. If you see what an eNiro does, 450 real kms on a 64kwh battery. My 70kwh Model S easily does 350km on an 85% charge, 420-450kms on a full one. Like I said a great looking car, but designed with an ICE in mind. By the way, the two first generations of Tesla seats were shocking indeed, the 2015 and upwards Next Gen (Recaro) seats are great.

So, the comparison this guy is trying to make is against a Tesla model 3. That's why he keeps talking about the spartan screen crap. The real comparison should be against the Tesla model x. That car has more storage, more seating room and it does have more buttons than the model 3. Also, having 3 different screens is kind of stupid and the more buttons you have the less the car features can be updated later after you buy the car. The storage in the I-pace seems limited for an EV. The interior does look gorgeous though.

In the example you give its more efficient to coast. BUT you can coast with regen on high by not totally releasing the accelerator. Therefore you can cost regardless on whether regen is on high or low. But if you have regen on low, the times when you don't have as much braking space as a football field you will hit the brakes and lose the energy but if you had it on high you could have recouped the energy. So overall you will be more efficient on high regen.

The shifter makes sense. Press the button on top to go forward, on the bottom to go backwards. Also, coasting is more efficient than regenerative braking. But you can coast by leaving the accelerator slightly pressed it - it doesn't use any power but is not regenning either.

How can coasting be more efficient than regenerative braking? When you engaged the regenerative braking, you are literally putting energy back into the battery which results in additional range. The Chevy Bolt has a low gear that automatically engages the regenerative braking. The Bolt also has a padal behind the left-hand side of the steering wheel to engage regenerative braking on demand. I enjoy those features in the Bolt because while you are coming to a stop, going downhill you are adding additional range to the vehicle. This feature works very well during city driving. The Bolt also has a "Hillhold" feature that will engage to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards on a hill without the driver applying the brakes. I like the I- Pace; however, the vehicle is presently too expensive right now.
@DarcersTech
@DarcersTech 5 жыл бұрын
@@TwoHawksHunting Yes, it is charging, but as any real-world process, that includes a lot of losses. Hence, the most efficient way to cover the longest distance is by coasting to a stop. The total energy used is lower than keeping the pedal pressed for longer (consuming more energy) and then letting go later (regenning).
@laurencedawson7754
@laurencedawson7754 2 жыл бұрын
@@DarcersTech sure, but that's not how it works....when you lift to a neutral pedal position, it coasts, if you then need to decelerate at a greater rate, then you lift further and the car slows, converting the velocity to stored energy.....it's an alternative to using the brakes to slow the car- not an alternative to coasting...

It can never be more efficient to use regenerative breaking rather then coasting since it's impossible to regain all of the energy used to maintain that speed; some energy is always lost. The big BUT is that if you end up trying to coast and miscalculate and end up having to break heavily or use mechanical breaks at the end you will end up using a lot more energy.

Regarding efficiency and regenerative braking or coasting. My theory is this - and it is just a theory - regen is not 100% efficient, that is only about 30% of the kinetic energy is returned to energy in the battery (that is fact). The motors are about 95% efficient (another fact) so 95% of that 30% can be turned back to kinetic energy. When coasting 100% of stored kinetic energy is being used to propel the car. Someone might argue there a losses due to aerodynamics and rolling resistance but those loses also apply to using energy captured by regen. I cannot see how regen can be more efficient than coasting.

Using Jaguar brand for 18+ years and this is my horrible review with the I-PACE. I've had a horrible experience with Jaguar's I-Pace. I had the vehicle for a year, and have only been able to drive it for approximately 2k miles. It has had issues with battery, software malfunction, charging system, and even when you would try to start the car it would make noises. Its a shame that Jaguar has tainted its brand with such a problematic car. If you want to be walking to places instead of driving, BUY a Jaguar I-PACE.

Very nice 'real-world' review. Great description too of the way it drives. Only thing missing was some real-world usage of the boot. Coasting vs regen? This is a bit like the "windoes vs aircon" question. In a similar fashion this is going to depend on your speed. At higher speeds it will be better to use regen and at lower speeds better to coast. The best solution purely for energy consumption (putting asside safety and other consideration) would be to use regen from higher speed and as the speed drops switch to coast once the 'crossover' point is reached. Where is the crossover point? Probably between 30 and 50mph, a little higher when loaded and lower when light and it'll also vary with road conditions and weather. Out in the real world it's probably best to use regen when driving mostly on highway and coast around town, but maybe use regen when it's busy traffic for the extra safety.
@MrLurker101
@MrLurker101 5 жыл бұрын
Regenerative breaking converts kinetic energy to electric. If you are just rolling there is no conversion. When converting kinetic energy to electric you will generate heat as well as electricity and thereby loose some energy. If regen was as good as coasting we could create perpetual machines.

Yes, put it in D - therefore it makes PERFECT sense to put D at the TOP of the selector and P as the LAST thing you want to do when you stop. Just because one may be used to doing something in a "traditional" sense it doesn't mean that a new paradigm can't be implemented.

Say you do have access to a 50kw charger on your trip out of town. From 5% battery to 80% it would take at least 1.5 hours to charge, probably closer to 2 hours. Tesla retains the advantage in every category and now directly competes with the popular Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt, Toyota Prius and new Camry hybrid....with a $35,000 Model 3 available, if you're in the market for an EV, who in their right mind wouldn't buy a Tesla? Tesla says they prefer minimalist design for interior That is another way of saying we can't design something beautiful. And how can they, they are Americans. Only European knows how to make a car beautiful

The interior is what sold me on the I-PACE. Teslas just have a boring, straight-as-an-arrow dash board with a monstrous screen sitting there so conspicuously. No thanks.

Not feeling that exterior or analogy to looks like a cat. Doesn’t know what it is. A car or a SUV. Just get a Tesla model 3 and be done with it. It’s hatch s ridiculous small.

I had this very discussion regarding coasting versus regen on a roadtrip recently. It's a bit complicated, but working through it with an engineer made the miles pass. The first thing to realize is that an electric motor is only outputting enough power to move the vehicle forward at a speed dictated by your accelerator pedal. If you are on a downhill the software should not output any power more than needed to maintain the desired speed. This should means that the vehicle will be coasting if it already has enough inertia to move at the speed set by the foot depressed on the accelerator. With an ICE setup, if you remove your foot from the gas, the transmission is still in gear providing forward drive unless you depress the clutch or have a new MB that automatically decouples the driveline. So, assuming that Jaguar "correctly" programming their drive logic, the electric motor shouldn't be using power unless needed. Now, if you are accelerating to a speed greater than needed, so you can coast at a lower speed... that's another calculation. Assuming the drive logic is programmed correctly an electric car should always be most efficient by pressing the accelerator to desired speed and allowing the computer to control how much power is needed to maintain that.

Those wheels are way too big! They look goofy to me. I'd prefer 18's or 19's. I don't think they offer 19's.

They offer 19s and 20s I think, built one out on thier website. The 20s would be my choice. It does have air suspension so the wheel size shouldn't hurt the ride quality I guess?

IT'S CUTE. THE UGLY DOOR IN THE FENDER IS INEXCUSABLE. NO REASON IT CAN'T BE HIDDEN, IT'S ONLY AND EXTENSION CORD. IT'S NOT A GAS CAR WHERE YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT AN ACCIDENT. IF TESLA CAN DO IT... THE MUSIC DRONING ON WHILE YOU TALK ADDS NOTHING BUT DISTRACTION TO THE VIDEO.

You cannot charge them anywhere is the problem with electric cars. I do not have several hours at a motorway service station to charge one up and I cannot charge one at home as I have only street parking or a private car park at the back of my house that I share with my neighbor. So electric cars, certainly in the UK are rendered useless because the UK does not have sufficient charge points that can charge your car half within 30 minutes or a full charge of 1 hour. Either one is time consuming and why electric cars are in all honesty a flop until they can self-charge 100%, then I will buy one. Hydrogen cars would be my choice over electric as you can just fill your vehicle up like going to a petrol station as an example. But ultimately, electric cars in the UK is just fanciful because they do not have the network and only a small % of people have the ability to charge at their home address due to how the housing stock is in the UK, the layout, etc, etc.

I’ve always said, electric cars aren’t for everyone especially if you can’t charge at home. Luckily I can charge at home so if I owned one, I could care less about public charging as I’d always have a full tank every morning. Hydrogen is a great alternative but stations at this point are far and few.

@@EverydayReviews2022 Waste of money. I drive a BMW M4 Convertable, and the way the UK is set up, we will continue to use petrol and diesel, not due to the general public, but due to how the UK Government does things, which is arse about foot and inefficient. That is why I continue to drive big engine vehicles, purely because we do not have any agreeable options in the UK. You also do not need loads of Hydrogen filling stations and they can be added onto Petrol stations, unlike electric that require all kinds of additional extras, including the power plants that give the electricity to charge them up. Honestly, this should have all been done in the 80's. What you drive is backwards really in comparison to where we really should be at. They could of had mining on the moon for liquid hydrogen in the 90's as an example to supply hydrogen vehicles. They could of had a similar level of electric cars that we have now in the 90's and so on. World is beyond repair now, regardless of how big electric cars come.

No Frunk? It is a good effort for sure from Jaguar. Far better than anything from BMW or Audi or anyone else. Tesla still has a huge lead. I'd say Tesla is 5-6 years ahead of its competition. Already building a EV factory in China. Nio is having issues. Tesla is plowing ahead. @15:20 Yeah! This is true for all EVs. Muscle gear heads aside. This is a huge improvement. Over the air updates? Y/N?
