Good god! here it is! A wonderful celebration of the greatest trilogy ever PUT TO FILM!
Join us for a glorious adventure through the world of Middle Earth!
Complete with incredible characters going on thorough journeys to defeat evil once and for all!
This series of movies is famous for being that of immense quality and 20 years ago, The Return of the King was released in cinemas and entertained the whole world for generations to come!
We at EFAP wanted to give you guys an awesome experience to celebrate this anniversary and hopefully the commentary/editing gives yah a blast.
A sad reality is that this video, despite great effort, cannot be monetised unless given heavy copyright protection. There was a wall of copyright claims which, when you watch it... makes some sense but hopefully the experience isn't hampered.
Though it is worth mentioning that this was an incredible sink of resources for several editors and something like this cannot be made often without support from you folks.
What matters to us most is that it entertains the hell out of you and sets a celebratory milestone for some of the most inspirational movies of all time, make sure to let us know what you think! \o/

This is a reupload, we've decided to split the movies into three because any other strategy cannot be monetised. I have no idea why. KZbin is not a fun boss to have. In any case, chat is now implemented from the initial premiere, though with a couple of mistakes here and there, in all three films. Something that I noticed while watching and hearing mauler mention Boromir's role as a protector, is that in the final battle Boromir doesn't have his SHIELD. A tool only used for protecting. He left his shield behind (that's how Aragorn noticed that Boromir is missing) to go after Frodo. Symbolically abandoning his role as a protector to chase after the ring. In the final battle he only uses his sword(still to protect the halflings) but if he still had his shield, he might've been able to survive Lurtz's arrows(maybe). This is just another tragic and excellent twist and detail for Boromir's character. God I love these movies!

To add to this, he grabs Scotty Pippin and puts them behind himself, literally using his body to shield them. The symbolism is amazing, the deeper you dig the more there is.

I think the only reason I would say that the shield in this case wouldn't have saved him is because each time he was shot, he was either not aware (the first shot) or was already focused on a closer threat in his defense of mary and took. I would still say that while he had only a role in the first movie (barring flashbacks) he still has one of the greatest redemption arcs I can think of, I still tear up when I see it, which boggles my mind since I rarely even tear up at funerals. Idk man something about it just resonates.

The scene of Frodo putting his hand on Bilbo’s shoulder after the jump scare is so good. It embodies forgiveness and empathy. It’s more powerful than any words that Frodo could have said to Bilbo in that moment.

Man, the scene with the ring in the snow... Everytime I see how prepared Aragorn was to use his sword againts Boromir I got the chills. You can see how he removes his hand from the sword once Boromir returns the ring to Frodo. Such an amazing scene.

If I remember correctly about Tom Bombadil, he had 100% power and control over his little area of the forest, but outside of that, he didn’t. It was a safe haven for the Fellowship, but a place they could not stay.

The thing is, when this movie aired, we lived in this strange world where two people could have a difference of opinion without either being accused of being a "hater". The term didn't exist. I watched it with a few friends and one of my best friends was a book purist and said they ruined it by making changes, whereas I thought for the most part the changes were good or necessary as film and books are different mediums. I'd read the books maybe 20 times since 1977 when I first read it, so it wasn't that I didn't understand his point. After I got the Extended Edition on DVD we watched through a few times and argued every time, and it didn't make us enemies in the slightest.

"Hard R." We've missed you too, Wolf! Weta Digital worked wonders with these films, and that's due to Jackson and the team carefully considering how to tackle film production. There's no replacement for thoughtful and passionate film production. There's no amount of visual effects that could cover the flaws of a sloppy production. This trilogy is a shining example of how filmmakers should utilize visual effects to enhance their production whilst maintaining the physicality of live action. Just because you can do something with digital effects it does not mean you should. Thank you Massives, for giving us yet another reason to appreciate the sheer amount of love and care put into these timeless classics. With all that being said though, your coverage is still not long enough. ❤

I just love Aragorn and Boromir, the interactions between them are so good. And I've always thought the way Aragorn looks at him is from a place pity, not of hate or disdain. Distrust, yes but the pity in Aragorn's eyes when those two interact always gets me. So damn good!

Actually, the sequence with Tom Bombadil plays a very important part- It lets us, the reader, know that the One Ring has LIMITS, it is not 'All Powerful', there are other forces and powers to which it is helpless to affect. As we are pounded more & more later on in the story about how overwhelming the Ring is, that knowledge is a bit of comfort. Tolkien has other brief reminders like that- The Cock Crowing before Rohan arrives, the Phial of Galadriel reminding us of the Stars above Middle-Earth, these all help to mitigate the despair & darkness one might feel.

Go Team Boromir. Very few talk about what a masterful performance this was from Sean Bean. He really brings everything to the table here, displaying pride, strength, dignity, but also tenderness, vulnerability, self doubt and shame. All with subtlety, never over the top. He also did that with Ned Stark, and even then, even after reading the books, watching him die was literally painful. Such a great actor.

One of the things I miss from the old movies was the use of sounds, color and voice of different factions. Like you guys said about Rohan, the Shire, Gondor, Mordor, they're all different and the sounds are different with them. The Shire had soft warm music, soft and warm tones, soft and warm characters. Rohan had dull green and red colors that became warmer by the third movie. Isengard was dark, cold and metallic. The consistency between the different senses actually feels good to experience. When we see the Marvels for example, we have 3 different personalities with colors that don't match what they do or who they are and the music separates itself from what's going on. In comparison of another Marvel movie, Ironman one had sharp colors and tones when it needed it, warm/cold colors when it was needed, and rock music became more active every time Tony Stark accomplished something. Even if we're not talking about writing, it's really nice to experience a movie through other ways visually or audibly

The Nazgul... very terrifying. Tolkien only ever gave an identity to two of them: The Witch-King of Angmar, and Khamul the Easterling. Very little explored about what they were beyond that they were once great kings of Men, but I think that enhances their horror effect. It's like "Whatever they were before, that doesn't matter. All that's left of them is these evil shades, thralls of Sauron... no trace of their past or former identities, they don't even have their own bodies or wills. This is what succumbing to darkness and evil does to us. This is why we have to get Frodo to Rivendell as fast as possible. This is why the only thing we can do with the One Ring is destroy it." It's really brilliant.

My first major purchase in life was dropping $3000 on a 50" hdtv & 5.1 dolby surround sound just to try to recreate the Balrog experience at home. One of the most memorable cinematic moments of my life. They had someone who wrote the code for CG fire, during the making of Fellowship, in Maya (program ). (I know this because I was training to be a computer animator in post secondary using Maya at the time). Their technical achievements aren't given enough praise or credit. #GreatestTrilogyEver

The 🍉 scene, after watching the extended, turns from a simple riddle moment to something else. Gandalf is stalling intentionally here because if he stalls long enough, they will reconsider and avoid Moria afterall. Frodo is a Baggins though. Like Bilbo, he's too good at riddles, so Gandalf had to give in and open the doorway.

I have watched The Trilogy more times than I can remember at this point, but the Fellowship of the Ring will always be my favourite movie of the three. I really enjoy the slow start and introduction to the world as well as the characters, despite it's comparatively smaller scale it's just as epic as the two other movies. Not to mention Boromir, who's my personal favorite character of the trilogy and potentially one of the greatest fictional characters, not only when it comes to the Lord of the Rings but in general. Despite a shorter screen time, compared to other main characters, he brings so much nuance and depth that it's a pleasure to watch his journey every single time, even if I know it by heart.

The funny thing about Tom Bombadil is that Tolkien just refused to explain what he was. Dozens of people sent Tolkien letters asking him to explain Tom, and he simply refused to do so. And given the extreme level of detail that he goes into for everything else, I think it’s pretty obvious that Tom was just meant to be what he is. An oddity. Unexplainable. A hint that even with everything Tolkien tells us, this world still has so much we’ll never know.

I LOVE the way Minis Tirith is illuminated by those sunbeams as if it’s some kind of divine light serving as a beacon of hope for the world, sitting on a fertile plain surrounded by mountains. But then in the background Mordor looks like Hell itself, with it’s black skies and the fiery eruption telling us that there’s something REALLY BAD happening over there, and the spreading dark clouds foreshadowing that it’s evil is growing stronger and beginning to spread.

It’s so weird to remember when these came out. I was like, they were great, sure, but the sweet summer child that I was expected that I would see more movies in the future as good or maybe even better. Little did I know that no, this was it. This is actually the best (3) movie(s) that will ever be made, or at least very likely so, given the current state of affairs.

I remember I really didn't want to see this when it came out. I was in middle school and I had no idea what Lord of the Rings was and had no interest in some fantasy with elves and fairies. But my mom dragged me to it and it turned out to be the greatest film I ever saw.

Those tree reviews of LOTR films alongside with praise of Jurassic Park and Arcane maybe amongst the best episodes of EFAP - certainly they are my personal favorite. It's funny to see EFAP crew making fun of bad media but it's heartwarming to see them analyzing something good - it bring you to the times when western studios were capable of producing great films that could stand test of times. Not so much those days... then it's even more important to remember those good movies. So, thank you for those LOTR reviews even if I found some of your opinion about Tolkien's book to be controversial.
