This run just goes to show that NL has reached an extreme confidence and competence over the last few weeks of playing FTL. Taking tips from chat was just the right thing to get started, but pulling this one off was really his own achievement; making all the right decisions in critical moments, where the majority of chat was sometimes a bit off. What a great run with a deserved ending!

Chat needs to stop telling him to hack piloting on the flagship. If you hack shields it lets you do A TON more system damage, meaning he could take out cloaking and potentially missiles, while making each fight much shorter. If he hacked shields and targeted everything at it, even with just average luck on the dodge chance he'd take it down to level 1 shields or lower, letting him spam his weapons on auto fire for the rest of the fight (dodge in phase 1 is just 20%). Hacking piloting makes you waste 4 shots on each volley, and the flagships dodge change is low enough to where the risk is low but the reward is extremely high. Just watch the first phase. He can't do enough damage through the level 4 shields so even though he's hitting all his shots, he's unable to target cloaking and they can just repair between volleys. His 3 flagship phases took 15 minutes when it should have been 5. Just for a reference on that dodge chance, he fired 9 shots per volley (3 per weapon). The chance to miss 4 shots and just MATCH the number of shots you'd be hitting with a pilot hack, would be 0.01%. It's not going to be worth it to hack piloting, even on phase 3 where the flagships dodge is 38%. He got incredibly lucky here that the flagship never hit his weapons for the entire 15 minutes, otherwise he would have been screwed lol.

either strategy works, hacking piloting is preferable with high enough projectile count as it allows for a consistent damage count while also having the added bonus of being able to shoot the instance you start hacking, whereas a shield hack requires you to wait for a pretty long while and only lets you get 1 volley per enemy cloak

What made me pause updating to Multiverse is the mod page descriptions (from 2019) that say you have to downgrade FTL. It seemed like there are a lot of hoops to jump through to install the mod, compared to CE. Is it really that bad? Also, I cant figure out what the gameplay loop is like. Is it endless or do you still move to the flagship?

@@PodreyJenkin138 FTL definitely does overhaul the plot to explain the masses of new ships / content / etc but tbh almost all of it is skippable! It's FTL after all, the plot will always come second to the gameplay:')

@@HackionSTx 1hr 48 min = 108 minutes. Only 5 minutes longer then NLs 103 minutes comment at the beginning. OPs comment implies the difference is much greater. NL more often then not runs late during FTL runs, or ends early from defeat, so such a close estimate is definitely not "classic NL" as the run took close to the time he had for it. Is my assumption anyway lmao

I love FTL Multiverse, but I don't think NL would. It's even more detail-oriented than base FTL, runs tend to take longer, and it heavily encourages reading all the text carefully.

Lanius Boarders with Mind Control part are horrifying. Your own crewmember fighting alongside them and you can't really counter them with fighting since that WILL cause suffocation death.

Hey NL, I wish to introduce you to the concept of significant losses. One thing you correctly highlight as important is to disable the enemy weapons immediately before they can deal chip damage to you. This is key to snowballing a decent run. When your behind however, taking chip damage is still mostly avoidable, but sometimes when doing so you put yourself at a 5-50% chance that your opponent recovers from your opening blow and consequently taking 5-10-15 damage. When you are at high health, but low power, it is generally more cost effective to aim to take 1-2 damage every fight by prioritising shield. To avoid scenarios where you never overcome your enemy and are constantly pinging on weapons until their hull fails, potentially taking 5--7 missiles during.

Augments. Enemy ships have them too and there is an augment that functions the same way a slug does. While enemy ships in reality don't need sensors, it would realistically be possible to use mind-control without sensors and a slug.

Had some bad luck not getting any new weapons but that's not his fault and the hacking buy was a good way to compensate for that. Edit: So yeah there's a fair few misplays after that but they're mostly because as zoltans walk about they can sorta mess up your power and that messes me up all the time so can't really fault NL for it too much (although he should probably keep an eye out for it when walking the zoltan around).
