That doesn’t factor in greed, lust, vanity, etc. Many people lack moral and/or ethical values for a eutopia like that to be maintained, let alone achieved.

They’ve abandoned religion & God altogether now, so yeah that definitely isn’t gonna be achieved. But I do think if everyone was a lot smarter in general, it would still be a way better world. Disputes would be moreso ideology based, and smarter people don’t sit around complaining about the past or crying over rejection.

I studied engineering and worked as an engineer for some years. Now with time and age, I realized how important social science is - we need capable social scientists to come up with a better education system, we need capable social scientists to analyze government policies and make them better etc. Engineering and the hard sciences may create tools, but without the social sciences to inform, update & revitalize the society alongside the progress of technology.

As someone once said, that a middle class man today has more than what the Pharaoh of Egypt had. Sure the common man doesn't have wealth, but every aspect of live and the standard of living from Travel, Medicine, Education, even More comfortable clothing, Food, etc... Is just an upgrade They didn't have refrigerators back in the day for instance and I can guarantee you no one knew that ice even existed. Until they explored naturally occuring glaciers. My point is yeah in the future the life and standard of living may be better than what we have now but even then you'd just feel like a middle class person.

It’s true, technology and labor are the things that make a country rich. If people were engineers they would create tech to do jobs faster better, and that’s why the US is better, bc of industrialization. Look at Mexico rn, the president is hiring engineers to create stuff and their gas prices are better than US now.

This is the problem with shorts. For example, I have 'enough' understanding of computers, can write some code and can build some hardware, but I'm not rich. So just having the education won't make you rich, its what you do with the skills that matter. Paul graham says you have to look for problems to solve, just having trouble finding these problems that I would enjoy solving.

If you can develop the ability to write creative novel code that performs well and is up to the specification laid by the PMs and designers in the team, I can assure you that every single company will hunt you down to work for them. Naval, if you mean by being rich loosing any sort of poverty risk as dying of hunger and such than check University 25 experiment. We are not made for happiness and easy life, we are warriors, the most aggressive species on our planet, otherwise we wouldn't win an evolutionary game. The strongest should win to spread genome, and all people are not equally strong, that's the rules of the game. Nowadays money is valuable, and typically shows your strength in society, but if everyone would get rich money wouldn't even matter anymore as there would not be deficit. This positive thinking position comes into play with age, don't say that you are too old for critical thinking

"There are no solutions. Only tradeoffs." - Thomas Sowell You say that we are the "strongest," but we're really just highly adaptable. The tradeoff for this this adaptability is that human beings have the longest childhood. The cost of having the blankest slate means there's a lot of learning to be done, and you spend a long time being dependent on your parents for survival. Compare a toddler to a baby chimp. The Chimp is more likely to survive in the wilderness than the toddler since the chimp will develop stronger arms faster and learn to climb faster. The Chimp will essentially develop better tools for survival faster than the toddler. You say the "strongest" should win and spread their genome, but what does it mean to be "strong" in the 21st century? And if only "strong" people spread their genome, how do we know we're not removing something valuable from the gene pool from people who aren't labeled as "strong"?

@someloser5103
@someloser5103 Жыл бұрын
@@vinayakambekar6863 that's not entirely why it's impractical, the reason why is more tedious; one, we need people to do things other being engineers, we need garbage men, preschool teachers, and cheap labors to keep our society afloat, if everyone starts doing one job than the system falls apart (he said everybody not me), we can't just rely on the fact that maybe in five years that cleaning trash will be automated when we are living in the now and the trash outside is getting stacked real fucking high; Second, not everyone likes engineering/science, humans are different and like to do different things; and Third, because our system will just make us disadvantaged in a different way, like having people do the work cheaper because it's a replaceable job making the places more competitive and hostile, leaving a workspace where everyone is fighting with each other over money because that's how capitalism works. His idea is serious idealism at best and idiotic utopian dribble at worst.
@StrongerBeliever
@StrongerBeliever 6 ай бұрын
Incorrect. The answer is obvious, there would be MORE automation and resolution of problems if we had more people educated as problem solvers who can build solutions. In fact, having a mere million people (America has over 300 million) working on robotics would yield astronomical growth in the robotics field very likely, and the automation curve would go exponential. Robots would very likely be doing all those jobs you complained about, not immediately, but extremely QUICKLY. Do you understand now? More problem solvers = More robots being made = Better robots = Less work with hands = Less work = Society not occupied with work Pretty simple to understand.

If you can "write some code" or "Build some hardware" you're not gonna get rich. Also, every job taken by robots will create a lot of unemployment. Some people might be able to pivot to a new carrer but all of them will be at a disadvantage compared to the existing workforce. This will affect their ability to get employed and their wages.

if "everyone" could write some code or build some hardware. meaning "most people" to your second point, is it a bad thing that wheat is no longer harvested by hand by workers and instead is harvested by machines?

@@jacktinney I don't get your correction to my 1st point. I'm saying that writing some code or building some hardware is not enough to get rich. Regarding the 2nd point, its not a bad thing because we still have a lot of low skill labor that is not automated yet. But ask a Factory worker 10 years from retirement if its a good thing he was fired since they automated his job. It all depends on perspective. Once all low skill jobs are done by robots, we'll probably have a problem.

@@kdizzy07 to the first point - Naval wasn't saying that if YOU write some code you can be rich. it was a thought experiment. He said If EVERYONE had some basic science skills, we could automate almost everything, which would exponentially increase the total wealth of society - everyone would be rich. To your second point, I suppose. I'm sure some people who were put out of a job in the past due to automation were not happy but as a whole automation increases total wealth.

@@jacktinney but let's be realistic, this is not what you would call "rich", it's more like comparing developing countries to developed countries. The average person will be better off in socio-economic terms and have access to better resources but you will still have unemployment, poverty, crime, addictions, mental health issues. I do get it now that the thought experiment is what if we could give everyone the best education and "prime" them for success. It would help but it wouldn't be perfect since humans are not perfect.

A logical gap between everyone doing hard science and "we would all be done within five years". No good reason to conclude that utopia will be achieved after 5 years or any x number of years if everyone is educated.

it is not that everyone is educated ... they are educated in hard science .... did we not hear the same thing. this means there wouldn't be freaking annoying politicians or people in social science who try to ruin us all. really? 8 billion people who either engineer or scientist need more than 5 years to trasnform the world that way? btw he did not say utopia.

I disagree. I think stem is harder but more so because of the time required. What I disagree with is that not everyone wants to do a degree is stem or a degree in general. Also if everyone did the same five degree it would be oversaturated like software or programming right now which lowers the demand and lowers the value. The market rewards rare and hard to replicate skills. Also the Chinese schooling system is a lot harder than the western and we haven’t been terraforming mars. They also hold almost a fifth of the world’s population.
