Seems right. Think about all of the global military spending and the definitely not military (yet for sure military) spending of this one tiny planet. We would explode into the cosmos and have the most amazing and terrifying conflicts. We may come in peace, we may come correct, but we would still show up strapped.

Sure humans will rescue 25 aliens at the expense of 12 of their own ships, just like the whole world has risen to the occasion to stop the “mass civilian casualties” in Gaza - and that list goes on and on… This is not our nature, we humans are not even noble by our own human standards. Mankind might one day travel between the starts, but humans are what they are, if they exploit the weak on earth they will exploit the weak in space. We love to idealize ourselves, but if we ever spread into space it will be like predators, although we will find all kinds of flowery descriptions for what we’ll do - like spreading freedom and democracy 😂

Hi everyone! I am the author of They Answered The Call. I just want you all to know how incredibly humbled and grateful I am to read all of your comments and see how much you are enjoying the story. I took a hiatus to deal with some life changes and a work injury that prevented me from writing/typing for a while. I got in touch with the content creator of this channel a couple of days ago and informed him that the hiatus is officially over and that I have resumed writing more chapters. Chapters 9, 10, and 11 are currently up, and I am working on Chapter 12 now. There is also a bonus chapter called Rise of the Republic that explains the events that led to the formation of the Republic of Humanity if anyone is interested in checking it out on royal road where I post the story. Also, it sure would be swell if some of you could find the time to create a royal road account and show some love for the story with a review and a rating to help me gain some traction there. Royal Road is free to read, and the sign up is super simple. I am truly thankful to you all for enjoying my story, and to HFY SciFi for creating the videos and doing the narration that introduced you to it. All my love and gratitude, Brendan

_"Victory is reserved for those who are willing to pay its price."_ - Sun Tzu. There are a great many quotes of this nature, spoken all throughout Human history. But in the end, it all boils down to one unmistakable fact, one truth: Humans are bred for war. Don't be the reason they start one, and for the love of all Gods, _don't make them end one._

One small problem: this quote is entirely fabricated, or, at best, misattributed. Sun Tzu never wrote anything like this. In fact, it is in direct opposition to the whole point of "The Art of War". Sun Tzu lived during the Warring States period, which lasted for ~250 years and saw battles larger than any that would occur in Europe for thousands of years (the Battle of Changping is alleged to have had 700,000 casualties). Sun Tzu came to the very reasonable conclusion that this was unsustainable, but also realized that eliminating war altogether was not a very practical goal. Instead, he wrote "The Art of War", a manual laying out a new way to think about and wage war. War was not a noble and glorious endeavor, but an great, if occasionally necessary, evil. The point of "The Art of War" is to achieve the political goals war with as little actual fighting as possible. In other words, victory should be acheived WITHOUT PAYING ANY PRICE AT ALL.

Psychology has been a part of human warfare since ancient times. Xerxes claiming to be a God was part of psychological warfare. He was trying to convince people that he could not be killed. The Spartans of Thermopylae causing him to bleed was also psychological warfare. It reminded his followers than he could be injured and die, no matter what he claimed.

@@tonyhudgins4702 Genes & memes. As per the actual meaning of the word. "Meme" is meant to sound like "gene" and represents an analog to genes, but within the realm of memory and behavior. It was coined by Dawkins in the book The Selfish Gene back in the mid 70s specifically to draw a comparison to evolution and genetics. addendum: The Selfish Gene is in itself quite noteworthy along with being the birthplace of the word 'meme'. Even while pushing 50 years since publication is well worth reading.

I was even thinking, they’re not just leaving after the battle, they’re definitely using this to “liberate” materials too. Somehow, this Republic just sounds like the US decided to and successfully did spread freedom tot he rest of the world, uniting it into an even more massive war tribe in a trench coat than the first 50. Honestly, good for them. It really seems to be working out very well haha

Eh, "war tribe in a trench coat"? So, tell us again about all the successful civilizations that never prepared to defend themselves... Or those who never promoted peace or act as a foil to prevent large scale hostility from breaking out like in WW2. People like to act as if having the ability to fight or defend from being attacked is a bad thing, when it's usually a pretty good deterant from others coming in by force and taking your things, including your property, your freedom and your life.

From the descriptions I understood, the tactic used by the humans during the battle with the swarm was a crescent formation, which involves strenghtening the flanks, while leaving the center exposed, with the intent of letting the enemy line charge the center and practicaly encircle itself. This tactic was most famously used by Hannibal during the battle of Canae, in which the Roman general Varro committed his way larger force into an all out assault, causing the line to bend in a crescent shape, with Hannibal's Numidian cavalry closing the circle and butchering the Roman horde

@@RealEnerjak I think the story comes from the idea that you have to be rather peaceful to be accepted as a galaxy wide nation. Thus not have tech thats there to wage war only (or to be risky). So thats why 'humans are not to be included'. Until sh*t hits the fan of course.

The fact that “Humanity good” is a controversial take in Modern Sci-Fi is one of the genre’s greatest flaws today. Now Humanity is at best the worst part of a multi-race group.

@@wyatttyson7737indeed. But that is how the plan goes - have to tear the good out of humanity and make us think we are irredeemable and need a supposedly benevolent ruling class to keep us going.
