They were "Wicky" Whacked. There used to be a bar in the town of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. It was called the "Wicky Whack" bar and during your first visit to Avalon it was a tradition to get your "Wicky Whacked at the Wicky Whack" bar. Rag Boat Sailors are a superstitious bunch.

Yep, most don't realize that old childhood games were actually training; and newer ones often form a basis for more advanced skills
@FinGeek4now
@FinGeek4now 12 күн бұрын
@@robertpopa2628 The only real difference between the childhood games we played and US Army boot camp was the "stressors", lack of sleep, drill sergeants, etc.. and "military knowledge" classes. Everything else was pretty much the same when it came down to combat and team building, up to and including weapons and explosives (more or less, we obviously didn't have assault rifles or grenades, so we used .22's and, well, we made our own IEDs). I highly doubt kids nowadays could use the local school's football and soccer yard as their personal "range" as this was back in the 80's. I do often wonder how exactly we survived childhood, but.. yay?

Hilariously accurate looking back on my life. Strategic thinking learned young in tag amd hide and seek. Sword fights. Dodge ball. Nerf wars. Laser tag. Large scale battles often with real people as team mates, coordinating attacks and defense. I've never fired a real gun but I could probably pick one up and be reasonably certain of hitting the target within a shot or two. Getting the feel for it. Our mating ritual is simple, but can take 1000 forms, adaptability is the key. And solid wingmen (squad mates). Focus on such seemingly mundane things as part if military academy training for aliens is a fascinating way to view ourselves. Really enjoyed this one. The brass had to be shitting themselves after that class.

The title makes a suggestion that isn't supported by the story.
@edhenderson1655
@edhenderson1655 26 күн бұрын
The title does indeed make a suggestion that is not overtly supported by the story...at least not at first as it is being told. However, if you look at how, in the story, the several days of classes about humans various astonishing abilities (from the cadets viewpoint) leads up to the professor's final explanation using the holograms in the last couple of minutes before the class was dismissed at story's end, I imagine that while the story didn't say the words, that the cadets would have left that classroom feeling at least in a military sense, VERY fearful of humans indeed. Remember, the cadets were not human and were completely unfamiliar with what we humans think of as both common and normal. Stop and consider from the cadets perspective a minute....Humans.... beings who's childhood and growing up just learning how to BE a human is literally the equivalent to the cadet's military boot camp training. Then imagine a young grown human adding human military boot camp training on top of all that afterwards. THEN with all that, add the ability of human young adults to be able to instantly turn on the sexual charm at a moment's notice, as needed. A charm that was strong enough to literally mesmerize many of the cadets where they sat in the classroom even though the 2 humans making advances were only holograms without the effect of close intimate person to person contact, something the professor pointed out to the stunned cadets. Then add the sexual effect of human pheromones in a real-life scenario allowing a human operative to woo an unknowing and unaware graduated cadet out in public, and eventually gain enough trust to manage to get vital secret data. Combine ALL THAT with both a human's instinctive combat ability and their vast and immediate adaptive ability in various scenarios. Then, on top of ALL of THAT, add the ability of a human to instantly flip from normal to seductive wooing to intense warring, all as needed, and yeah..... I think that when the cadets left that last classroom, they would have been rather terrified to meet humans, either warrior to warrior in combat, or even in a casual public situation, fearing an unknown espionage situation and not even being aware of it. In fact, during the cold war, the Soviet Union focused on specifically training both male and female operatives as spies with specific and intense training that included weaponizing and honing the sexual talents of the trainees specifically toward spycraft, both initially out in public, and eventually in bed, to maximize their ability to target a specific political, industrial, or military person, get VERY close to them, and either use that closeness to directly obtain secret information, or else target and intentionally bond with someone like that who was married with the intent to get close, seduce, and finally sexually compromise them while being secretly filmed to create the ability to seriously blackmail them under the threat of revealing all including copies of the film to the spouse and family destroying their personal life, or publically through the media with possible professional, military, or even legal consequences. And the Soviets became quite good at this. This type of thing was what the classroom professor was warning the cadets of....and they both very much realized it, and they realized just how vulnerable they could be. I saw their terror in the form of stunned silence. Edited for spelling
