Hilariously accurate looking back on my life. Strategic thinking learned young in tag amd hide and seek. Sword fights. Dodge ball. Nerf wars. Laser tag. Large scale battles often with real people as team mates, coordinating attacks and defense. I've never fired a real gun but I could probably pick one up and be reasonably certain of hitting the target within a shot or two. Getting the feel for it. Our mating ritual is simple, but can take 1000 forms, adaptability is the key. And solid wingmen (squad mates). Focus on such seemingly mundane things as part if military academy training for aliens is a fascinating way to view ourselves. Really enjoyed this one. The brass had to be shitting themselves after that class.

Ours are really weird. 1 tennis ball 2 teams. The player holding the ball can only take 3 steps but he can pass the ball to his teammates, the goal is to throw so hard you bruise the opponent's back. It's harder than it seems because people would be sliding and dodging, sometimes even when its a hit they move with the ball so it doesn't bruise. The loser is the team with more ball shaped bruises. 😂😂😂

One of the better HFY was about how an insectoid race attacked a school trip and thought it was a military target and killed a bunch of 10 year olds. They broadcast their victor across the galaxy about how they had defeated the human warriors, only to then meet the real human warriors. The last thing their race heard before going extinct was "DONT HURT KIDS".

@FinGeek4now

@@robertpopa2628 The only real difference between the childhood games we played and US Army boot camp was the "stressors", lack of sleep, drill sergeants, etc.. and "military knowledge" classes. Everything else was pretty much the same when it came down to combat and team building, up to and including weapons and explosives (more or less, we obviously didn't have assault rifles or grenades, so we used .22's and, well, we made our own IEDs). I highly doubt kids nowadays could use the local school's football and soccer yard as their personal "range" as this was back in the 80's. The element that's most realistic & reasonable is the part about humans immediately taking to weapons: while many of those other species described have natural weapons (horns, claws) and/or are based in environments that aren't conducive to weaponry (aquatic, aerial), humans are terrestrial, and without meaningful natural weapons. Without other ways to defend ourselves/escape predation, we are forced to use tools. Tools for self defense/combat are called "weapons." Similarly, tools in general have been made necessary by the fact that we're weaker/smaller/slower than many other species on our planet. That means we need tools to level that playing field, too. As such, we've been forced to use weapons & tools for so long that it's practically in our DNA

I did those same with sisters. When I was a kid, we used cap guns, pistols, rifles, or dart pistols. We used nerf guns and laser tag pistols and rifles with nephew's and nieces. My 13/ 14-year-old niece bagged a 6 point buck with a bow and arrow on a hunt with dad and later the same year bagged a 5 point buck with a rifle, she took martial arts as a 5 year old until she was 17 and even owns a katana that meant for a fighting tool and defense weapon

The book, On Killing, by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, was required reading in every academy and alphabet soup scenario I was involved in… Found it in my kit more than once. Humans are a trip, man… I was fortunate to work and fight with honorable people. My father was intense… Boys Scouts, Order of the Arrow; I was given an egg, matches, fishing tackle, a pocket knife, and dropped off in a forest with a map and a compass. It took me four days to get to a road, and get home. I enjoyed every minute. All of my buddies are capable. My kids are the scariest things in the dark. They’re tactical little chess players. I can understand aliens being afraid of us.

It's more that they have anger and control but humans as the extreme versions of it. it's a _GOOD STORY_ *But* you have to get proper *pauses* in the AI narration. ....and pronunciation is an issue the _ENDING_ of this story went off the rails and was almost unintelligible (As interpreted by the AI narrator) 'SOMETHING' has to be done about the way the AI pauses / inflects & *emotes* English.... ... it's not QUITE _'Right'_

Cheating in war would be something like violating the Geneva convention, the consequence of that being that those rules are now off the table.

@@SuperBrannflakes exactly. To be smart and develop ways to fight never seen before WITHIN the rules - stretching or bending the rules, but not breaking them - is, in fact, the PINNACLE of military ingenuity. Trick them, but NEVER cheat them.

:( The sad part is that this had the potential to be a REALLY good story, even though it was read by AI. Unfortunately the AI ruined it. That, or the person who entered the text ruined it. There are so many grammatical errors in it that it is impossible to completely like. The AI at least had a decent voice...but AI is AI and will read what you feed it without thinking about whether what is reading makes sense. I'm sorry Fiction Master, but I'm going to make the assumption that you are not a native English speaker...thus your use of an AI reader. If you are going to continue to do so...PLEASE have somebody who IS a native English speaker proof-read the story BEFORE you feed it to the machine. Yes, I am aware that the author made those mistakes, but you, as the narrator, should have (with the authors permission) corrected them before narrating the story.

BAh...another AI moderator that mispronounces words. The least the author of the story could have done was to have a paid live human being to narrate this story. I'm getting tired of all AI rendered stories as they sound so fake!

@@jamesaritchie1 That's like saying for every show I want to watch I have to get DirecTV then get Paramount+ for that show then get MGM+ for that show then get Discovery+ for that show then get this plus and that plus and so on and so on. TV used to be completely free. Internet used to be just one bill. Your ISP. Now everybody wants to nickel and dime you out of existence. It's all becoming a major rip-off.
