I'm the strange person who actually would've liked the health scanner, though I feel that, with that, upgrades should've been available that allowed you to swap it between modes-- not unlike swapping the scanner from shrines to maybe enemies-- and allow a mode where, rather than seeing health, it would show a radial bar as to how far your current sound would travel, and the vision cone of enemies.
@TheBreadPirate4 жыл бұрын
Now that would have been epic! It's too bad Nintendo didn't make that an optional rune.

@@TheBreadPirate Yeah. Perhaps the full stealth armor, rather than having a night speed up set bonus, would allow you to see the pathing of non-stationary enemies. If it didn't have some special property besides being on the box, most players would likely never wear the tunic at all and opt for attack/defense or environmental outfits instead.

The eagle vision in the new Assassin's Creed seems like a good system IMO. I haven't played the games, but if stealth is a central mechanic to the game, there should be a focus on scouting out the enemy positions and planning your infiltration. This mechanic obviously isn't what you'd want for a non-stealth RPG like Zelda, but then again, almost none of the new mechanics in BotW belong in a Zelda game either.
@Dovahkiin9142 жыл бұрын
I’d argue otherwise about the new mechanics in BOTW. Nothing is more Zelda than tools used for solving puzzles, assuming you’re referring to the Runes. Though, the combat mechanics I could see where you’re coming from.
@ASquared5443 жыл бұрын
I would honestly like this mechanic to return in Breath of the Wild 2 in some way tbh. Maybe improved upon a bit but I like the idea of being able to use the slate to scan an enemy and learn how to approach them. Keeping it optional is probably for the best but maybe they could inform you about your enemies line of sight and their immediate scouting route (like an arrow pointing where they’re going to go on the ground).
@cewla3348 Жыл бұрын
still, it would give a huge buff to, instead of going out and PLAYING THE VIDEO GAME, sitting and looking at arrows. It isn't RTS, damnit!

It’s kinda like the ability Tattle in The Thousand Year Door, where you can use it to find the exact hit points of enemies at the cost of a turn. That function also gets replaced by an endgame item much like the Champion’s Tunic would have here.
@TheBreadPirate4 жыл бұрын
In an RPG that makes a lot of sense! Paper Mario 64 was the same (sort of) with the Goomba companion. Although I think he was just there to give advice, not to share hitpoints.
@Buglin_Burger78783 жыл бұрын
End... game... item? You could get the Peekaboo Badge almost at the very start of the game. The trade off is badges were much more powerful and scanning an enemy once always told it. It isn't really ever replaced as in long boss fights that extra BP will keep you alive or give you an edge... but since you're not needing to manage exact damage in boss fights this can be completely ignored there.

The completionist mindset is absolutely a great point. Sure, this red bokoblin has 13 hit points, but who's to say these other two red bokoblins _also_ have 13 hit points? And the next encounter, will they all have 13 hit points again? Obviously yes, but when you're in a must scout all the things mentality it can be a bit hard to break the habit. This reminds me a lot of the scan mechanic in Metroid. It would've been so much more interesting if this was the way to obtain enemy data for the Compendium. Say, you see a Moblin somewhere and think that's new and looks tough, let's scan it. And bam, you get to know everything about a Moblin. This feature had much potential. It could've shown not just HP but also Attack power too. Yeah, it's still janky but I think with less scaning time it could've been really fun. And not just for enemies but for all the entries in the compendium as well. Including something like the gems and stuff.
@larkasmr11282 жыл бұрын
I kind of want to vouch for the whole controlling a separate bird from you to scout out areas because I LOVED the owl in far cry primal. Maybe it was different because you could attack with the owl, send down certain bombs or even send your beast to go attack the enemies the owl was looking at, So you could get a head start on knocking out the enemies without alerting them to your actual position. I'd also use it to scout hundreds of feet in front of me, Huge entire encampments, And the nearby enemy sensor you mentioned in assassins creed wouldn't work for that. It's kind of interesting you could never really say a certain mechanic is bad or good because there's probably at least one person who likes it. But also you've mentioned time stopping and in far cry primal while you were using owl it was mostly normal time until you click button that was like hunter view or something and that slowed down time. So maybe it was just implemented better?

Domething i dont think anyone knows about is if you go into a shrine before a blood moon happens, then leave after 12:10, the blood moon doesnt happen, and delays it until the next day, in which you can do it again!

This is why my default build for armor is the trousers, hood, and champion’s tunic! Looks like the memories AND it helps me fight. I didn’t know the scope history of that ability, though! That’s cool!

Wow, i didn’t even know that the champions tunic detected enemies health, I wear it all the time and thought that detecting enemies healths was just in the game

The way it looked from the thumbnail, I was 100% expecting this to be recall, and it was scrapped from BotW

I mean, ignoring the janky controls you CAN turn off the motion controls. It's the first thing I did because arrows were so hard to shoot. So if they did that I imagine it wouldn't have been as bad, a more annoying factor would have been targeting enemies that are coming towards you and needing to switch between the slate and a weapon.

True! being able to turn motion controls off will make it managable.

I believe the sensor could very easily work if you extend the hitbox the second it shines on an enemy, like with the bat if you just follow its general direction it should tell you the health, then if you do it enough times it should tell you the health of every single enemy of that type permanently. So like with bokoblins you need to do it 10 times, with moblins only 5, with bats 10, hinoxes only 2 or 3, and same as hinox for any other mini-boss, with the actual boss enemies only needing to do it once. I think it would've been cool to have a way to reveal all the enemies health, but I also think it would've been cool to have the other clothing effects naturally too some way, maybe through a perk system or some kind of additional challenge like "Kill 5 of X type enemy" to unlock those effects permanently. Like imagine getting to permanently have the faster climbing, it would be so cool and give the game another avenue to progression that is seriously lacking in it. But they'd probably sooner shoot Miyamoto than add progression features into the game.

The best games that do this give you some added value as a result. Even Assassin’s Creed is at least letting you tag enemies to keep track of them (though it is weird that they actively made it worse). Games like Ghost Recon that allow you to scope and tag with a drone, and then have everyone coordinate fire, or Watch Dogs letting you hack stuff with a drone (wait, are these all Ubisoft?) all do something more than “stop and look”

It worked in metal gear. They also left in the health bars without requiring the scan but added the specific numbers to the tunic and stuff.

I never knew that ability existed in the Sheikah Slate, probably because many people didn't mentioned it and I never knew that ability was in the Champion's Tunic, because when I start seeing HP numbers I never knew how that happened.
@tinycatfriend3 жыл бұрын
this is so cool to learn! it was a great idea and implementing it makes total sense, but i'm VERY glad it was cut. i'm not a fan of motion controls, and this would have drove me nuts! now i wear the tunic enough that i have most enemy hp memorized, or at least a general idea of their difficulty. and i think bomb arrows were what taught me how to scout out an area before diving in, actually. getting frustrated by dying over and over, and then seeing arrow go BOOM made the connection clear that sometimes you gotta plan! not sure if that was the dev's intention, but it did the job for my minmaxer brain

Blaming motion control though is pointless seeing you can turn it off. I have mine set to off. Though. Having it on the champions tunic is better. At the same time. It would be nice to have both, for those who don't always want to use the tunic. Using the sensor with motion control off would be super easy.
@chompythebeast3 жыл бұрын
Even if the mechanic hadn't been janky, it seems like a waste of time that only serves to psych the player out. Just get in there and find out how many slashes it'll take to kill em by counting your slashes! Also, I appreciate your candor about your earlier hype draft for this script. I get a little weary of the way some content creators like to blow their own horn or bury the lede. For the record, however, this vid would have been worth a modicum of such hype, as it was pretty interesting. That's a Subscribe from me!

Also giving that unique (and helpful) ability to the champion's tunic make it a desirable item you want to wear all the time, making the player to keep the character design as intended probably through the entire game instead of trying to beat Ganon with the Nintendo t-shirt from that chest
