I fucking love sanrio!! I grew up with it as a kid and I'm still obsessed with it. It's always been so important to me and always will be. I'm pretty sure that sanrio influenced my obsession with kawaii fashion and aesthetics (specifically ones that lean towards yume kawa) There's very few franchises that have been so impactful in my life, like sanrio. It's been with me for as long as I can remember and has always been so comforting to return to after traumatic events.

The only sanrio girl that I met had her entire personality based of TikTok egirls (no real personality of her own it was so weird she looked like a TikTok, which was really annoying and cringe tbh) and she sexually assaulted a bunch of people, including a friend of mine. She also only hanged out with people that had the same "no personality" as her (and some also sexually assaulted people). She is a terrible person that I refuse even to talk to. As a squishmallow and Kirby girl myself, I gotta say that finally allowing myself to like feminine stuff after many years repressing my feminine side (I rejected my femininity because I hated how society treats woman and views them as: annoying and weak) feels so good. Lol I get u about the soy sauce thing. And literally no one asked but recently I did a Gudetama look and I've never felt so pretty and cute!!! I'm one of those fashionistas that spend ages creating new looks. It only took 8 hours. For my makeup I did some simple yellow eyeshadow but I added a grid of white dots and small but cute dolly lashes. On the undereyes I put some rhinestones and in the waterline added some white. Then I applied black glitter on my lashes for some added wow. Then I just did some orange blush and a pink glitter lip to finish off. For the outfit I just repurposed a yellow latex dress I didn't like and added some lace and little Gudetama faces. I also had white lace gloves to go with them. I had some sneaker heels and just painted them orange and added a white ribbon the the fronts. For the hair I did yellow bangs and white zigzag curls. I also had a cute Gudetama headband to go with it and sprayed on hair glitter. Oh yh I also made a bunch of little Gudetama charms out of polymer clay and just stuck them on some egg yolk yellow falsies with additional little thingamabobs.

I’m autistic and have had some special interests over the course of my life, which i obsess over. The most recent one is definitely Sanrio, and i had NO IDEA of this “hello kitty/sanrio girl” meme, i have to say, i was really disappointed. I thought hello kitty would get to be a wholesome interest with a kind wholesome community, since the cartoons and stuff are so cute.. The internet does ruin everything. That’s why i always keep my distance from communities and stuff, i just enjoy the things i enjoy by myself and am kind of oblivious to what’s happening in these communities. It does make me sad though. Can we just let people enjoy things and not generalize them based on their harmless interests?

I love cute stuff, and loved Hello Kitty as a kid, but stopped trying to talk to anybody about it in middle school because nobody else liked it and thought a lot of my interests were childish. I'm feeling better about it now though, because I'm seeing so many other people like it too! So, it feels kinda like Hello Kitty is an old friend to me. I do have ADHD, anxiety & depression, but those effect me more than anyone else, lol.

I've only ever known 4 sanrio girls, which obviously isn't a large sample size, but all 4 of them has had some mental health issues that made them very difficult to be around. One of them guilt tripped and manipulated one of my best friends to straight up leave our friend group and would try to shut people out of said friend group very suddenly if they didn't go along with her shit. The other 2 were so desperate for attention that they would hurt themselves, talk about them hurting themselves, threaten to hurt themselves and wouldn't listen to anyone if they even so much as tried to talk to them about it (one of these two girls admitted to having borderline, and I suspect the other had it as well) The 4th one struggled with depression but was open about it and wanted to become better. As I said it's not a big sample size but it's enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth, and a friend of mine who has somehow had very similar experiences with a completely unrelated sanrio girl only confirmed the bad taste I was left with. It sucks that those are the types of people the community is associated with but the rotten apples really do spoil the bunch.

i think a lot of the issue at least for me with a lot of the sanrio content on tiktok especially can easily lead you down a pro ana pipeline for some reason. after liking a few jojifuku or kawaiikei posts you often will start getting tips on unhealthy weight loss and pro ana advice and rhetoric at least in my experience and also since they wear a lot of sanrio products sugarbunnies included i associate them similarly so sometimes sanrio for me has a big associations with pro ana and ed content

I think Sanrio is adorable, and I love Cinnamonroll and Pompompurin in particular! I think when people call Sanrio girls crazy, they are referencing the ones that love them because of TikTok edits. I can testify as someone who has encountered one of those girls, they’re pretty annoying and unlikeable. The girl I’m talking about was really spoiled and privileged. She loved Sanrio because of TikTok edits she had watched of Melody and Kuromi. She was genuinely an awful person, she made tons of racist, homophobic comments not to mention the awful jokes she made about SA, and she seemed to take joy in putting others down. Now, liking Sanrio because you find the characters cute is a completely different matter. Those people are for the most part normal and really nice, I have encountered a few of them and they have been nothing but lovely to me.
