Great vid. It's so cute how Miss Trudy and Wode Maya was fascinated yet apprehensive of collecting ackee. The name ackee comes from the Ghanaian Akan word: Akye Fufo. As you know ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica. However because of ackee being synonymous with Jamaica, even the ackee poisoning is named 'Jamaican Vomiting Sickness'. I'm glad you're loving Jamaican food/cuisine.👍😋 You've gotta try Curry Goat, Jerk Pork, Jerk Chicken, etc.

Hello egg and bread is when we dont have any money lol. Yes we eat heavy in the mornings. And we love porridge as well. Ackee can be eaten raw as well. Once it is open by the air and sun it is safe. You wont be poison by it. Most people eat it cooked but it can be eaten raw as well but most of us are afraid to consume it that way. Yes we walk and pick fruits from our neighbours trees once it hang on the outside lol. Nobody dies from starvation in Jamaica. Because if someone knocks on our gates and say they are hungry we give them something. Food or money but most times food. Because we dont want them to buy drugs with it if they seems off in the head.

My mom shared with me that you could use the ackee skin to wash clothes- it creates suds. This is in Jamaica’s rural area on the southern coast back in the 60s. Some spanish speaking countries also call ackee guarana. It has a high caffeine content and can be also used for energy drinks. Update: Guarana is not the same as ackee but it does come from the same scientific family.

Doesn't matter for us., Boiled yam , sweet potatoes boiled or fried, Rice, plantains boiled or fried, Green bananas boiled , fried cakes , baked bananas bread etc 😂. You don't have to eat lunch if you don't want to 😅 after good breakfast. We do give Plantain porridge to our babies, if you think the imported baby cereal is expensive for you. Matter of fact the plantain porridge is very healthy and rich in iron. Especially the country I am from, nothing on that is strange to me on that table, except the ackee fruit. 😅.
